The NEW WL FAQ (Part 5) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY! Part 2

Hey y'all! I just read on another thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1646461 that there were changes last month to the boats at the resorts.

Can anyone confirm this? If it is true, that's a good thing for access to MK. Beckie, can you update the front page of this thread if this pans out?

See below:

There are 2 Motor Launches (GOLD FLAG) that run from the MK to the GF and Poly before returning to the MK. These launches run from 0830 to 45 minutes after the MK closes.

***The WL is now serviced by 2 Motor Cruisers (RED FLAG) and begin running each day at 0830 and terminate operations about 1 hour after the MK closes. These 2 RED FLAG boats run only between the MK and the WL.

*** The FWC is now serviced by 1 motor cruiser and 1 motor launch (GREEN FLAG) running each day from 0830 until about 1 hour after the MK closes. These boats run only between the MK and the FWC.

The 2 Motor Launches (BLUE FLAG) on Bay Lake serving the CR, WL and the FWC begin service at 0645 daily. They both run clockwise until 3 p.m. and then reverse direction at 3 p.m. These launches run until 2330.

***NOTE: If you want to go to the GF/Poly from the WL, CR or FWC by boat, you will have to go to the MK and then get the Gold flag launch. In addition, there is no boat that goes directly from the CR to the MK, GF or Poly. Additional boats may be added to the Gold, Green, Red and Blue routes during periods of exceptionally high demand - like at heavy MK closings - to alleviate the guest lines at the docks. Additionally for all motor launches, strollers must be folded prior to boarding and ECVs cannot be accommodated on motor launches under any circumstances.

This is almost correct. Just back last night. Not sure whether it's permanent. The service was smooth and fast. Only ever waited for 5-10 min. The RED flag boats to MK are NOT all cruisers. It seemed that most times it was 1 crusier and 1 small launch from the WL. So if you got the cruiser, no problem. But if you got the smaller boat and had a wheelchair or stroller, it needed folding. Not great at park closing with sleeping kids, but you could always wait for the next boat.
It appeared that the GREEN flag boats for FW/MK were always the larger cruisers. Perhaps due to the large number of retirees at FW this time of year? I know there were complaints about the small boats on the camping board.
We took the BLUE boats to FW one evening and it was a small launch on the trip to and from FW.
We never had to wait for a second boat. The system seems to handle the crowds well for the most part. It did look a bit overloaded at the beginning of a sold out MVMCP evening on Tues.

More of my review to come. Sad to be home. :sad2:

Hi all.
Well what can I say about our first trip to WL? It was a mixed bag, but I can't say enough good things about the lodge itself.

DME was SLOW waiting for a bus on 12/2 to get us to WL. Shared a stop with Poly, GF, WL and CR (in that order). Once on the bus it was smooth sailing. About 30 min. Luggage was in our room by 5pm (12pm arrival at airport). Our departure was seemless with 1/2 full bus on Friday afternoon. They picked up in reverse order. CR, WL, Poly, and then GF.

Checkin - No problems, no line. Smooth and easy. Room request not met, but the CM tried and she was very nice. Even offered to move us the following day if we weren't happy with our room.

Room 5147 - South wing, inner ctyd over pool (7 rooms from the elevators closest to the end/pool). It was a walk, but not as long as I expected. With those elevators nearby, it was very easy to access the pool and RF, as well as walkway to the boats. Our view was perfect. Could see all of ctyd, part of the EWP. Could even see tops of Wishes fireworks. MVMCP fireworks were even better, as they were bigger and higher so we got a great show at 9:30 on 3 nights. I'd say 6th and 7th floor guests would do even better with fireworks views from the south wing.

Noise - This was a downer. I think the deluxe hotels must have more of a problem due to the long indoor hallways. People in the halls were noisy. The room adjacent to our headboards was silent most always. But the connecting door next to the TV allowed all sound through. Pair that with noisy kids who weren't going to be til midnight and it was an issue. Next time I'll request a non-connecting room, as I think that would have helped a lot. I can't fault WL for noisy guests. Tried to use the clock radio for static white noise, but it would go off automatically after about an hour.

Mousekeeping - Well, good and bad I guess. Our room was always clean early in the day (as requested). Requests were responded to promptly (like extra towels). All staff (housekeepers and custodial) were super polite and friendly. DD got 2 towel animals, and some of the H20 stuff was replenished when I stowed it in my suitcase. My complaint would come from the MAJOR fact that we encountered many families in the lodge (including my DD) with kids who got sick after arrival. DD was feverish and throwing up about 24hrs after we got there. I heard the aforementioned neighbors up that night with the same problem. And later saw laundry outside a door down the hall which unfortunately looked like ours. Mousekeeping said they don't do any extra cleaning or provide things like mattress covers to help prevent the spread or ease cleanup. We were given extra towels, and trash bags, and they did come by to offer help with cleanup one evening. We could have picked up the bug elsewhere or brought it with us. But even so, it was spreading like wildfire down the hall, and I can't help but think that some clorox would have made a difference. I did even spray our room with Lysol when we first arrived.

Bell services - Overwhelmed Sunday afternoon, so we had trouble getting our grocery delivery (WeGoShop) out of storage. DH was irritated with the lack of concern from the staff. Checkout day was without problems.

Other - beds were super soft, so we were a little uncomfortable. No problems with AC. DH loved the ethernet setup with a port on the dining table.

Concierge - Always well staffed with a short line. They even reimbursed us for our taxi ride from EPCOT when DD was sick, since they weren't able to provide transport for us.

The lodge itself - Christmas decorations made the trip for me. I loved the atmosphere, music, and sitting by the fireplaces with my morning cofffee. In fact, with the illness issues, I think this saved the trip for me. Pool was never crowded.

Mercantile - The WL Lincoln Logs sold out while we were there. No more on property and they won't get more, according to the CMs. Sad for DD who fell in love with the ones at WCC on our checkout day.

Buses/Boats - Seamless. Monday was standing room only on bus to Epcot with a stop at FW, but the trip went quickly. Thursday trip to AK about 9:30, the buses seemed mobbed. Perhaps it was a temporary bottleneck. We walked up and immediately got on the AK bus, but he had to leave people behind. 2 other buses at the stop were also filling quickly. Our return from AK at 6pm was about 10 min wait and the bus didn't fill. Shared bus with GF, but we were dropped first.

That's all for now. We loved our experience, but I'd like a chance at a do-over without the illness. Hopefully one day . . .

Glad you had a great time! Sounds wonderful! We'll be there in 8 days!

Is the lobby/area of your room just floor 1?

We were 2nd floor, but it was the same floor as the lobby and Mercantile. We went down the stairs at the end of the hall to get to the pool and boat docks. For anyone with mobility issues, the 2nd floor would be the way to go. We were all the way at the end of the wing, but didn't have to deal with waiting for elevators and such. I think it was probably much quieter down there than up closer to the elevators and lobby. We did hear the boat horn, but that was about it...fortunately our neighbors were my in-laws on the connecting side, and another quiet family on the other, so noise levels were pretty low. Although why the boat horn was going off at 4am one morning is beyond me...:confused3 .

Blue Fairy....funny you mention the Illness....DD and DH were sick too....neither one got out of bed from about 8pm Mon. night till about 3 pm Tues...I think they picked it up at home though...DD had her 4yo well check right before we left....you know how easy it can be to pick up a bug in the Dr's office. I'm sure stuff can spread like wildfire in WDW..tons of kids touching everything. Fortunately, we didn't have stomach issues, though...just cough, cold and low fever.

ok, I'm a bit confused:confused3 so with the new boat changes, what is the best way to get from WL to FW about 8pm to head over for the HDDMR?

Yep. That was us. DD was restless and apathetic til about 3pm Monday, then fever hit while at EPCOT and she got sick at first-aid. (sometimes this is just because of her fever going up, so not sure it was a stomach bug exactly, but maybe). Fever continued til Tuesday night, though it was manageable on Tuesday so we got out after lunch. By Tues evening she had her appetite back. Thank goodness.

With the new boat changes, what is the best way to get MK for a 8:05 Crystal Palace breakfast? Or is bus service quicker and how early will they run to MK?

No problem. When we were there in Sept we had the 8:05 ressie at CP and simply took the bus. (They were up and running and not very crowded as you might imagine.) We were in line and waiting with the guest for CT when they let us in the park. Wonderful experience. Enjoy a most uncrowded park!!!!!

If I am reading the new info correctly, you can take a red flag boat to MK. When we took the boat in September, we caught it around 7:15 so we could get to our 8:15 reservation at Crystal Palace. The bus is just as easy, maybe a bit quicker.

the only boat option would be the blue flag boats serving the WL, FW & CR.

before the change you could also catch the boat returning from MK when it stopped at WL before going on to FW. Obviously you can't do this any longer.

Morning Lodgers

I have updated my post on page 1 with the new boat routes while they are "Temporary" the crews on the boats think they will be made permanent soon.

I still need to speak with the Capitan on the Blue Flag Launches to verify the new route information with the smaller boats.

I'm not sure why the Lodge is being served with one Motor Cruisers (large boat) and one Motor Launch (smaller Boat) as guest with ECV's would be limited with boarding the launches, they do have the bus available but access to the Cruisers is much easier and less time consuming.

The Lodge and the Villas are beautiful with all new Christmas decorations this year.

The weather is perfect, the attendance is heavy...need to go...will post more later or when I arrive home.

Beckie

Well it was hard but we left WL on 12/10 and headed for home. It was a great stay and I had no complaints other than the mercantile was out of WL baseball caps and I've made it a habbit to get a new one every time I'm there. We did get lucky and get a 2007 ornament though.

The hotel was amazing! Decorations were awsome. One new thing I noticed is that they lit up all of the garland hanging from the lobby balconies. It really looked nice.

Was great to see some of the old gang on the club level although I noticed that some were missing and I didn't get to see them. Offerings were as good as always. Wish they still offered oatmeal for the morning but alas, you can't have everything.

Mousekeeping was great. 1 towel animal and room was always clean.

Artist Point was....well what it always is....fantastic. Yum!
Pulled pork at Whispering Canyon as good as always. A staple for every trip!

I loved the red flag boat. Great addition.

Also did the horse drawn sleigh ride even though it was a bit dark and we couldn't really see anything. My kids loved singing carols there and back. It was a cool family moment. :)

So with the cruise for the first 4 days then 5 days of WL and Mousefest, I am pretty tired!!! Looking forward to our next stay though. Hope to have pics up before the end of the week.

Cyas!

Fred

Thanks Beckie for your help. Maybe it will help answer all the questions that come up. I hope they keep the separate boat for MK.

The DD and I saw the new Samantha Brown Holiday Disney show last night and though I didn't catch it all I did see her show the WL decorations - including the lit garlands Majestic mentioned. She's now determined that we need to do Disney at Christmas time. Only question now is '08 or '09.

Maybe just one of those things but DD got the stomach bug there on the third day in May. Weird.

I have managed to download a few photos,
this morning...Want to see? Most are of the new little additions to the trees and wreaths.

So sad ...... We had to cancel our trip the 9th-12th! DH schdule just wouldnt' allow us to go. So I have rescheduled to the middle of February. Guess the good thing is I think the crowds will be low then. Just upset about not seeing the Chritmas stuff. Next year will be better though since DD will be 3 and probably enjoythe Mickey Christmas party betterthen anyway.
