The NEW WL FAQ (Part 5) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY! Part 2

Thanks for all the warnings regarding the Poly.
Why oh why cant the WL let 5 of us stay in a room :sad1:

The only WL choice for us would be 2 rooms or a deluxe room. But the cost of a WL deluxe room would be $1400 more than a standard room at the Poly.

Another choice for us could be Beach Club ($200 less than Poly) or Animal Kingdom Deluxe Bunk Bed Room ($300 more than Poly, but $1000 less than WL)

The ONLY reason I was leaning towards Poly was because of the monorail. I really prefer staying in a "hotel" (like WL, AKL or BC) where all the rooms are in one main building. I feel more a part of the scene that way.

Darn kids-why did they have grow up!

I didn’t read what was written about the Poly, but we stayed there last September with my DM and DD4 and we loved it. We are DVC so we won’t be there again unless we run out of points, but we would stay there again. IMO, don’t shy away from the Poly.
The main pool just a very short walk from even the farthest room. Our room had just been updated and was very nice. Good size balcony. Great pool. Walking distance from the TTC and on the monorail. We loved it! What were the complaints?

I have only stayed at the WL in the past, but for our next trip it is out the question. Since our kids are older now (13, 9 and 6), in order to stay at the WL I would need a Deluxe Suite. Unfortunately, that is too much money for us.
We are thinking about Poly.
As a huge WL lover, will I be disappointed in Poly? Any of you stayed at both, how will it compare to WL?

I will miss my WL

I have stayed at both and both have their advantages. Like everyone else, I wish I could always stay at WL, but like you we have three kids and this summer we will be at the Poly. Yes the buildings are spread apart, but compared to all the walking we do at WDW anyway, no big deal. I like the MUCH bigger rooms, the ability to sleep 5 comfortably and the monorail. We spend most of our trips in MK and EPCOT so this is a big plus to not have to use a bus. You can board the MK monorail right there and it is only a nice 5 miute stroll to TTC to catch the EPCOT monorail. You will miss the WL, but the Poly is a great resort as well IMO.

I agree. We have stayed at both and like both. Maybe we were just in a happy Disney state-of-mind, but the longest walk at the Poly, even from the farthest room only seemed like a 3 minute walk. We were just at VWL in December and the walk from our Villa to the pool seemed about the same distance.

We have always enjoyed our stays at the Poly. Love the easy access to the TTC - so many easy ways to get to MK. We have never found the walks between buildings to be an issue. With a family of 5, we always needed to stay at the Poly or CR, and the Poly was our choice. Love the WL, too, but our favorite is still the Poly.
One thing that I will miss if we stay at the Poly again however will be the hot tub - really liked relaxing in the WL tub at the end of the day.

Our family always stayed at WL and we love it. Then last trip we had DS2 for his first trip and we decided Poly would be better with the monorail access to MK and Epcot. We loved the Poly even better than WL. The rooms are large and beautifully decorated just sort of like WL. The pool is alot better too and the slide is bigger and faster. I love the Restaurants at Poly, both were very good. The new renovated Captain Cooks CS at Poly is much better than Roaring forks. We love sitting on the beach watching wishes and EPW. Now next trip Poly might be out of our budget so we are considering WL again.

Why not stay at the CR? Its a great resort on the monorail line that is all under one roof (as long as you stay in the tower). We did this in 2003 and loved it. I also like to have everything under one roof. We will stay there again on our next trip as we are 5 and will be going without any extra family like our last trip. We were only able to stay at the WL because we could put one of our kids in with my MIL and SIL. Love the WL too, but it wont fit us all. CR is our favorite of the monorail resorts.

Have you considered a deluxe room at the Boardwalk or Beach Club? They have 2 queens and a sitting area with a fold out sofa ( I think) - I don't know what the pricing is in comparison, but it might be worth looking into.

Transportation ? Easiest way to Poly or Contemporary.... for a different counter service meal!!!

Thanks!

The easiest way to get to the Contemporary from WL is taking the boat that goes back and forth. To get to the Poly, do the same thing, then get on the monorail at the Contemporary over to the Poly!

I tried searching just this thread, but no luck.

We are going to the world on Saturday!!! & having dinner at the WCC. We would like to stay & explore then watch the EWP. I know it is scheduled for 9:35, I found that much. Where is the best place for us to watch & what is the easiest way to get there from the lobby?

Also, any secret must-sees at the Lodge we should know about?

Thanks!!!

For us the greatest place to watch it is from the boat dock, there are benches there at the end, PERFECT view from there, they pull up right in front. To get there from the lobby, head towards the pool, follow the signs to the boat dock (vear left of the pool towards the water) Enjoy and have fun.

What does everyone think - is it worth the extra dollars for a woods view? We're not really balcony people and I've never bothered booking anything beyond std., but we wound up with a beautiful courtyard view at POR recently and now I see the difference a nice view can make! But I understand "woods" can also mean overlooking service areas (?) And should I request one particular area over another? We value quietness above all else!
thanks.

Hi
Sarah my family is also leaving on sat. and staying at the wilderness logde. Thanks for mentioning the electrical water parade I think we will have to see that before putting the kids to bed.

If you stand out by the pool and look at the Lodge, you should see a resemblance of a bear face! Use your imagination and it'll be easy to find!

I don't know if this is the place to ask, but where might I see a detailed map of the rooms in WL VILLAS? We will be making our 1st stay in a studio in the Villas this April, and wondered what type of"views" the balconies offer in the Villas. If this only a Lodge thread, could someone direct me elsewhere?

We have visted the WL the past 2 Decembers, ( dinner at Artitst Pointe, drinks in that wonderful lounge, relaxing in the rockers in front of the fireplace).........:), and felt sooooo comfortable there. More so than any other DVC resort! :goodvibes So we decided our next vist "home" would be in the WL Villas.

Thanks, for the info

I have stayed at both as well. I love both resorts actually, but they are very different. I have never minded the distance between buildings at Poly. We took the boat at WL every day and that walk is just as long. The real differences that concerned me were price and room size. WL was significantly less expensive, but the rooms were small compared to the Poly. Staying on the monorail is great but WL boats were super to MK and CR. Capt. Cooks snack bar (at Poly) has a much better selection that Roaring Forks at WL. You can't go wrong with either resort!

Right when you veer to the left to go to the boat dock, you'll see a rocky area with a little hole in the ground. Stand in front of it at say, 10PM. ;)

Going back to WL Feb 2-5, 2007 to celebrate my 40th birthday. Quick trip down, with my best friend, leaving the kids at home! Never been without my babies, but REALLY excited. Stayed at WL in 2003 and loved evey minute of it. :cloud9:

The Woods View don't overlook the service areas the Standard View Rooms do, so booking a Standard View Room will mean that you will have a service area view if it's located on the North side of the Lodge, and view of the rooftop if located on the Southside of the Lodge over the check-in desk. The standard view rooms on the North side may also give you a view toward the MK so you may also see the fireworks (WISHES) at night.

I have stayed in each room type and have never had a problem with noise.
