I would love some information on the dinning plan b/c it would be great for 3 nights out of 8 nights stay and kids under 12 are free. What does it include or is it prix fix? And can the children order anything off from the kids menu or they don't have any choice since its free for them?
Thank you

checking in on monday for a six night stay, hopefully I get a room upgrade. celebrating daughters 6th bday.

We arrived at the Dolphin on Saturday, and all I can say is, "Oh my!"

Saturday:
arrived at MCO on time, all our luggage arrived, and figured out how find Mears transportation. There were so many of us heading to Swan/Dolphin that we had to wait 20 minutes for a tour bus, as we all could not fit into 3 vans, plus all of our luggage.

I must say that I was not impressed with Swan's drop off/pick up area from the bus, and was a bit concerned about what I'd find around the corner at the Dolphin. Needless today, my fears were not warranted. Upon coming up the drive way, the Dolphin screamed, " I'm gorgeous," and it is.

I'm a "Preferred" SPG member--meaning we don't have any points--lol. Well, the guest host checking us in gave us the HOOK UP,though! We're in the West wing in room 10149--OUR VIEW, OUR VIEW--is of the Lake area between the Dolphin & Swan, and when we look out the window we're staring right in the middle of the flower cups of the Dolphin & the Swans of the Swan-- with DHS to our right--more coming on DHS. Oh, the room decor--it has sand colored walls, and multi-colored earth toned carpet with leave swirls throughout, slate colored stone at the entrance and we also have a refrigerator vs. a wine cooler. Our drapes are a brown & teal wide stripe. The furniture & bedding looks the same as from photos from Swan/Dolphin threads, and we have a LG flat screen TV which dd controls with a wireless computer keyboard--rolling of eyes. Did I mention the hallways smell brand new with calming paint & cool looking carpet that kind of matches the Picabu color scheme?.

We relaxed, went to Picabu for dinner where we now only order ONE of everything & split the entree because Picabu gives so much food. Went back to our rooms, changed & headed straight downstairs to the Grotto Pool area, and then to the Boardwalk to catch the fireworks after hearing another guest telling her husband to hurry up so they did not miss them. After the fireworks, daughter & I refilled our refillable cups & headed to our room for the evening, but was quite disappointed when for some strange reason, the hotels turned off the lights right before the fireworks and still had not turned them back on. Oh well. We went to sleep happy as clams.

Sunday--

We headed to Picabu for breakfast--shared of course--lol. Then waited for Enterprise Car rental to pick us up so I could get out car from over at the Marriott--$227 for 8 days & 7 nights. We're driving a Pontiac GTS--I think.
Made a Walmart run & shopped at an outlet on the way back to the Dolphin. Dd swam while I had a couple of adult type refills from the Cabana--grin--liquid lunch. We ate stuff from Walmart & headed to Epcot via ferry. We returned & caught the fireworks again. We cozied up in our beds, watched a few movies on my lap book & fell asleep.

Monday--

We headed to Downtown Disney & literally spend the whole day there--I could not believe it was almost 3:30 when we arrived home, and we left the hotel at 10something. All we did was walk around & look in all the shops--oh, we did take in a show at the open theatre by the lake. Although tired, we headed out to an Indian restaurant for an early dinner & to scope out 192 for the rest of the week's dinner meals. After returning to the hotel, and entering our room, we discovered that we can SEE FIREWORKS OUT OUR WINDOW--yep, did I mention we have a great view of DHS's Tower of Doom with all its lit-up purpleness? What a shock to stand in our room and watch the fireworks that seemed to go on forever. We attempted to take photos, but I bought the wrong type of memory card for my camera.

Tuesday--We just getting up & have not decided what to get into yet. dd's friends arrive this evening & we plan to hit DHS, Animal Kingdom & Magic Kingdom before we leave next Monday, but am not sure if we will get to them all with the dance competition beginning tomorrow.

I'll update again in a few days.

we are here now and haven't heard or seen anything about their own dining plan? :confused3

(VERY HUMID today! :cool2:)

FYI: Fresh Mediterranian was WONDERFUL this morning for breakfast and we received 20% off with our AAA card... :thumbsup2

Thanks for the update, and I'm glad you're enjoying the Dolphin. It does have a WOW lobby! :) The Swan's entrance and lobby are less impressive, but then I don't sleep in hotel lobbies! :teeth:

I was wondering if someone could tell me if he Dolphin has frigs yet?
I thought I had read somewhere that they were redoing the rooms and all of them would have refrigerators in them.

Thanks,

Hi Singing Mom! Hope you're having a great time with your parents.

I have a question about activities...When I was at the Dolphin in April 2008 I wasnt aware of any activities, games, pool band, or cigar specials. We were at the Grotto pool every afternoon for seven days. (We even did a pool day.) Did I miss something? :confused3. I'm going back to S & D to stay at the Swan in October. On our last visit the kids did get tennis racquets in the health club and walked to the tennis courts, and my daughter did the hair bead thingy(rip off) How exactaly do I find out about the activities or is it hit or miss?

:thanks:

I wondered the same thing! We were there over Easter vacation (and it was pretty busy) The only "activity" there was was a snow cone cart on Saturday (which we missed). When we were at the pool all day Sunday there were no activities, no DJ, no snow cones..booo! We had fun enough but I seemed to recall on our last visit that there were activities going on, DJ, pool games, etc. Maybe they only have things in the summer or maybe it is just hit or miss?

Yes they just recently converted from mini bars to fridges.

Does anyone know if you can store food that needs to be refrigerated if your room is not ready when you arrive? We are staying at the dolphin.

Yes, they definitely store food in fridge for your arrival. They did it for us then Bell Services delivered it to our room, he even volunteered to store it and we gave them a nice tip! :goodvibes

They are still in the process of switching them to fridges... our room has one, my parents room still has the minibar...

We leave tomorrow...:sad1:

Also - nice description of your room, DisneyVirginII.. our room is still the "old decor" - the pink salmon walls with the light blue accents. Very "ocean liner" looking. I don't mind, but it definitely has not been redecorated yet.

Our view is the Swan to our left, sandy beach and Tower of Terror directly in front of us. :thumbsup2

recieved upgrade to epcot fireworks room w/o balcony. the room has the new fridge, but not the new tv. the room has not been through the renovations yet, but it is still great.

its been raining all day since 10:45. it has finally stoped. it is now 6 pm.

...while enjoying cocktails at the Lobby Bar this evening, a Dolphin employee very calmly and politely asked us to take our cocktails and enjoy them outside... they had an emergency alarm go off and had to evacuate the building until they determined why the alarm went off! :scared1:

We went down the escalators and out the door to the outdoor fountain, only to find that we and another family seemed to be the only ones that "followed directions". I told them "and we also 'don't run with scissors'"..:lmao:

DH went back in to see what was happening and saw that most people had evaculated out the front door. lol Apparently everything was ok, because we were able to return within a few minutes. In the meantime, we chatted pleasantly with the other family who "FOLLOWS DIRECTIONS WELL".... (can you tell I used to be an elementary school teacher?! :goodvibes )

Interesting group of conventions seem to be here this week - earlier this week it was a pharmacutical group, the past few days it has been TGIFridays employees, a Sorority reunion, some sort of wheelchair convention, and a dance competition.

We went over to the Swan earlier this evening to look around. It is very pretty, but I must admit, I prefer the Dolphin. ;) I took some photos and will try to upload when we return home. We leave tomorrow - :sad1:

This has been a "different" type of trip, with my parents along. I think we just may do a "5-peat" next June! We'll see....

Well, I've officially lost my mind. Notice in my signature we leave in just a few days. I've been him-hawing around about a 10 day stay at the Polynesian because I am used to vacationing in condos or DVC 1 bedroom units. So yesterday, with too much time on my hands, I call the S/D to see if there is any availability for our dates in a suite (teacher's rate). Low and behold, there was a one bedroom executive suite available for an unbelievable nightly rate at the Dolphin. I booked it! The amount of space is awesome and we'll have 2 bathrooms . We're saving about $1,100 off the room price of the Poly. I'm hoping I've done the right thing. I know the Poly is awesome, but I think the Dolphin will be equally as awesome. I think my girls are going to love WALKING to Epcot!

Have a great trip... The Dolphin is all about location location location.. We are now DVC members but in the past we used the Dolphin a lot. We now use it to extend our stays when the weekend points are so high. We always stay in a Jr. suite at the Dolphin! Have a great trip.. now are you a Starwood member... join it helps to get a view upgrade. :)

Lucky you dfarner! You will not be disappointed to be within walking distance to Epcot, DHS & The Boardwalk! Take some pics & please post back with them when you return. Enjoy!

Does the 1 bedroom executive not have the 2 doubles? Our jr. suite usually has a King bed in one room and a pull out in the living room as well as a Murphy bed.. sleeping 6.

:)

Does anyone have a pic of the kiddie pool? DD and I will be spending a 2nd week at Disney while DH goes to a convention at S&D so we will be spending a lot of time at the pool and most likely the kiddie pool.
