QUESTION for you Poly Pros --

We are thinking of getting stuff from Garden Grocer or WeShop to have bkfst foods, snacks for the kids, juices, milk, etc. Do you know if anyone ever has a TOASTER swap at the Poly? (Not that toasters cost too much but I don't really want to haul mine from home...) Would love to have bagels in the morning. Someone mentioned there was a toaster in capt cooks....can you bring your own food from the ROOM and use that toaster when you go down to fill up your mugs??

Then again, if I'm going to order Garden Grocer, maybe it makes more sense to skip the mug ($25 or so for both me and DH) and just have sodas, etc in cans, etc? Hmmm....anyhow, main question is about the TOASTER situation!

The answer is yes, absolutely. Just this past week I saw Poly guests use the toaster for some of their items brought from their room, and also use the microwave to pop popcorn. Several folks did this when they came to fill up their refillable mugs. Not a problem.

If it is still a coffee bar, does it offer anything food wise for breakfast?

We mostly want decent coffee, but food would be nice, too - save an extra stop inside the MK...

We just got back. The kids can get the Mickey waffle b'fast on the dining plan with no issue. We did it several times. I don't recollect there being a specific kid option for b'fast. When I came up to the register with the smaler water bottle at b'fast time, the cashier told me to go trade it for the larger one. She told me that they didn't have a separate kid option, so why get the smaller bottle. Worked out just fine!

We got back on monday, and they would NOT allow us to get the Mickey waffles for a child's dining plan credit. There is a specific child's breakfast meal that the cm said is the only thing the child can have. My dd's love the mickey waffles so I paid out of pocket for it. I guess it comes down to which cm you get.

I was at the Poly this past week and yes, Kona Island acts as a coffee bar in the mornings and as a sushi bar in the evenings (starting at 5pm).

Sure does! They offer pastries and muffins. Not hot breakfast items like those served in Kona Cafe or Captain Cooks. For those folks who are lactose intolerant, they can subsitute Silk Soy milk for whole milk in the lattes.

The Polynesian is my favorite Disney resort and I have stayed at every one of them, except those opened after 2000.

This will be my first visit back to WDW, since I moved out of Florida in 2001 and we'll be at the Polynesian in mid-December for our anniversary and again in February, also booking the Poly. This will be my husband's first time staying at a WDW resort, so he's very excited.

I have requested Rarotonga, which was formerly known as Maori and before that Maui, because of its proximity to the Great Ceremonial House. But I have fond memories of staying several times in a lagoon facing longhouse (at that time Tonga) with King Kamehameha concierge service. I'm so excited --- just 107 days

I had to think a bit on that one because I've always brought my coffee and pastry onto the monorail. Probably something to do with my coffee-addict steely glare. I have seen other folks do the same thing I do with bringing the coffee and their breakfast pastry on board. It is a very quick trip to the MK (about 5 minutes once you board and stop at the Grand Floridian first).

You're very welcome. My DD8 thinks I'm a stinker when I tell her she's out of spending money for Disney.

I *think* it opens at 6am but someone here will correct me if I'm wrong. It opens around the same time as Captain Cook's. Kona Island is definitely open by 7am.

I believe Kona opens at 7:00 and you can send your bf for take out. That usually ends being my job because I'm the early riser

Breakfast menu. I noticed the Tonga Toast at Captain Cooks tasted 'lighter' than that at Kona. Still very good!

Soda dispenser #1. This one has Minute Maid Apple Juice and Hi-C Fruit Punch.

Soda dispenser #2. This one has Barq's root beer, Vault energy drink and Coke Zero!

Dole Whip machine! The CMs told me that I won the 'Dairy Queen' award for how much dole whip I managed to get into the little cup. LOL!

Bakery case. So many yummy options! And yes, they do count as a snack or as a dessert option on the DDP.


Just a few more things. There are two dispensers for NesCrapFe (uh, Nescafe coffee), iced tea and coffee creamer. There are take out bags, plastic covers for the kids Mickey plates and adult platters available. There is also a toaster oven and a microwave available. Both times that we dined at Captain Cooks there was someone there constantly cleaning.

That is strange, b/c we were there at the beginning of the month and had no problem ordering the mickey waffles using a childs credit. Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the there was no difference in the CS credits on the dining plan, they are just all lumped together.

Do you know/remember if you can get a latte with non-fat milk instead of whole milk? And can it be an iced latte? (worried about what we're going to do with no Starbucks for 10 days... ) It's too hot in FL for us to get anything hot to drink!

Fellow coffee addict here! Same as you, I've always brought coffee on the monorail.

Did you know there's another "real" coffee stration at the TTC?
I don't know how long it's been there but that one came in handy too .

The path of that one is headed towards Haiti, Jamaica and on into the Gulf of Mexico. Orlando should be perfectly fine.

I think johnsonet posted the hours of the Kona Coffee bar a month or so ago. 6:30 comes to mind as opening but I'll try to look for it.

I do know that Kona Cafe's normal opening time is 7:30am.

I believe you are correct. I never had to distinguish b/w child and adult when using counter service credits. For table service, the children HAVE to order off the children's menu if there is one (not at a buffet). At Captn Cook's, we just got 3 orders of the Mickey Waffles with bacon and it counted as 3 CS even tho one was actually for my dh. And I had the same experience with the CM's coaxing me to get the bigger drinks b/c I was on the dining plan.

All this coffee talk reminds me that I was sooooo disappointed two weeks ago when we were there. It was naptime for the kids and my afternoon coffee time. I walked to the Kona Island/Sushi Bar thing to get the famous Kona coffee. Sorry, they don't open until 5pm and neither does Kona Island Restaurant. UGH. I go to the bar, no Kona coffee there either. So, I went downstairs and had a cup of their Nestle coffee or whatever it is. If you put a lot of cream in it, it's okay but I was so sad not to be able to get Kona in the afternoon. Did I miss something? Also, one morning in Capt Cook's, a woman was going around taking a survey of the coffee down there. Maybe they're thinking of replacing it? Some day, I'll have Kona and Tonga Toast!!
