The New (Part 4) WL FAQ Thread...Just the Facts M'am!

Is there any way to determine how occupied a resort is at a any given time? I guess the easiest way would be to call WL and ask? I was search for AAA discounts for WL and there were only a few listed, but for the AKL, there were a bunch. Does that mean the WL is more full???

Oh these games my mind plays.

This will be our first stay at WL and we are all excited. :hyper:

We paid for a standard room and requested non-smoking with a balcony. Anyone have any ideas on whether or not that will be a problem? Are there rooms like that? Where do you think we might be?

I am not worried, just curious - oh yeah, and as I already said, EXCITED! LOL::yes::

Thanks!

P/S any tips I should know?

I see that it is one of the things we may spend one of our silver plan magical wishes one.Although, I think it is one wish, per person. Making it about 136.00 for 30 minutes !

Chris,
When I was there last week I checked on the price:
21 Foot Sun Tracker Pontoon Boat/10 Guest Maximum/$34.74/Per 30 minutes/ I think all you would need is One wish, not a wish for each person. (per 30 minutes)

I don't know of any site that would give you that information other then Disney...if you call you could ask the CM How many rooms are availiable on your check-in date.

QueenOfCelts,
Hi, welcome your request shoud be very easy to meet because all rooms have a balcony/or patio (if on ground floor) and only one section in the North Wing is a smoking optional section.

Hollua,
Wish I could help but I'm not sure, I know the new safes at Pop Century would be large enough for a lap-top but don't think the smaller ones at Wilderness Lodge. are. Maybe someone else knows for a fact.

In the infinite wisdom of you frequent WLers...

How likely (percentage-wise) do you suppose DS and I, going in July, are likely to get picked to be a flag family. I am not a cranky person and will not hold you to any estimate, so feel free to guess! It would not break my heart not to get too, but it would be fairly cool.

Also, when a family does get picked, who tells you and how far in advance?

Thanks! (Oh, and the counter is now under 40 days, in case I haven't mentioned this a hundred times). Good thing I'm taking a summer class, or I'd have way too much time to think about this trip!:jumping1:

Since you can't request Flag Family until you check in and most people check-in on Sunday, right? Does this mean if you check in on a different day, like Friday or Saturday, you may be the rush for request for Flag Family for the next week? Is there a better day to check-in to increase your chance of getting a flag family opportunity?

Hi babybunrab,

You don't get picked to be flag family. When you check in to the lodge, ask the front desk if Flag Family is available during your stay. They'll check there books and if they have an open day, you can have it!

Good luck!

If we were going to try and ride the monorail either to or from Epcot - we would basically have to go the thru the TTC and the Contemporary, right?

Thanks........

QueenofCelts

When we go to EPCOT we go to the bus stop, if the Inter Resort Bus comes taking you directly to TTC we jump on the bus. It only takes about two minutes to get there. (Much faster then taking the boat over to CR to catch the Resort Monorail to TTC then transferring to the EPCOT Monorail) at TTC we ride the EPCOT Monorail over. If the EPCOT bus comes first we just ride it, then when we come back to WL we always just ride the EPCOT Monorail back to TTC and then ride the inter resort bus back to Wilderness Lodge. (Wilderness Lodge and Ft.Wilderness Campground share this inter resort bus line, they are the only resorts that have a bus that goes to TTC.)

Hope this made sense.

is it really true that there are no smoking rooms available for a standard room--i really think thats strange and hope that its not true..i will be traveling with my mom(a smoker-but never smokes in room only on balcony) i have only stayed at WL once and we had a smoking room coutryard view-and as nice as the view was i want to do this trip on a budget so i really just want to pay for a standard view:( it just doesn't make sense if this is the case.

All smoking optional rooms are located on the Sixth Floor North Wing next to where the elevators located near Roaring Fork Snack Bar are. The views from this wing would either be Woods View on the even side or Inner Courtyard View on the odd side. Sorry I believe this was done to keep people who don't want to be near smoking rooms the freedom not to even have to walk by them. In some cases they may have a medacal conditions that prevents
them from any exposure to smoke.

When I checked out the Smoking Rooms you could smell the stale smoke as soon as you got off the elevator on the sixth floor. Once you walked around the corner back toward the Lobby the smell dissipated.
As most of the Standard rooms are over/near the Lobby I guess the managment didn't want the non-smokers to have to walk though second-hand smoke.

Out of the 728 room at Wilderness Lodge only about 30 are smoking optional.

I have also read that if you are outside on your balcony there are no restrictions that she may smoke there just not in the room. (which you say she doen't do anyway) If she chooses this option I know she will keep the other guest enjoying their balconys in mind. (Be sure to check with the Front Desk to verify this option)

Hollua -- the safe is probably the same size as what you had before....in all the disney properties we've stayed at, they've always been the same (small) size.......we've never locked up our laptops....we're usually travelling with 3 (DH's 2 and my one).....
we try to make them as inconspicuous as possible of course...in any case, we've never had a problem (thus far, knock on wood)........the only hotel we've ever stayed in where there was room to lock them up in the safe was the villas of grand cypress.....each bedroom had a huge safe....big enough for the laptop in its case as well as other stuff as well....

Thanks for the information, Beth! I'll be sure to ask when we check in. You never know, we could get lucky.

It sounds kind of neat though to be able to boat around bay lake and look at the resorts etc.

Chris
...visit, we had the Family Plan, and pontoon boats were included. Seven of us had gone to Sunday mass at the Poly, and, rather than taking the monorail to the TTC and the bus back to the WL, my DSis-in-Law called on the cell phone and informed us that she was on her way to the Poly with a pontoon boat to pick us up. Well, we all proceeded to get onto the pontoon and had a most enjoyable ride back to the WL. Unbeknownst to us, she never informed the dock person her intentions, so, needless to say, she [the dock person] was VERY shocked and surprised to see the pontoon leave with four persons and return with 11!! Boy, oh boy, did my DSis-in-Law get scolded!

Thank you for the info about the safe at WL. And thank you everyone for all the wonderful info here.:D

Thanks Magic !

I was all happy there for a second. Then I re-read the silver plan brochure and it says:
"WATERCRAFT RENTALS"
One(1) Magical wishes feature per person Set sail for a terrific outing with the whole crew! Watercrafts include Sea Raycer by Sea Ray,canopy boats,SunTracker Pontoon boats ,canoes, pedal boats, and sailboats

I will still wait and ask there at the WL Marina. But if they do charge one wish per person, now that I know the fee......I think thats not fair

Chris,
I take that to mean each person will recieve 1 wish per person that they each could use their wish on any of the equipment listed. One person could use their wish on a Sea Racer, another person could use a wish on a canoe ect..ect...One person could use one wish for a Pontoon Boat. The number of people that the boat will accomadate doesn't have anything to do with the price.

I have never used Wishes before But I'm sure our DIS'ers have maybe if you don't get an answer here you could start a new thread asking about Wishes and how to use them best.
