The NEW Official November 2010 Countdown & Planning Thread ~ Come join us! (Part 2)

After completing radiation treatments last week my mother's health declined drastically and last night she died peacefully at hospice.

I am so sorry for your loss :grouphug:

I lost my mom last year but was fortunate enough to have her placed into a wonder hospice center where she was able to be comfortable. I pray you're experience was just as good!

QOTD: If you were stuck in a park for the night, where would you choose to sleep (in each Park)?

MK - Now this has nothing to do with the attraction itself by a LONG shot but Hall of President. I love falling asleep to shows about history and this would be perfect!
Epcot - Spaceship Earth
DHS - As long as I can have a make-shift bed/blanket to keep me warm the Honey I Shrunk The Kids play area
DAK - Tree of Life

Also on a more serious note it seems a lot of people here recently has experienced a great loss of a loved on. In the past 3 years I lost both my parents to cancer however one thing that helped me though both times was a book called A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore. It is a humorous look at death but more importantly it takes a look at how man's loss allowed him to help others move on after losses they experienced. I just though perhaps I would pass one something that helped me when I was going though a difficult time in my life.

We were in the car the other night having a family Disney discussion and a question came up which I am posting as a QOTD
QOTD: If you were stuck in a park for the night, where would you choose to sleep (in each Park)?
This is what we came up with-
MK- Cinderella's castle or the cars from Space Mt.
EPCOT- The Norway boats or in one of the displays in The Land
HS- Under the big hat (DS6) or in one of the caves at The Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground
AK- we didn't get this far, but maybe in It's Tough to be a Bug 9on the benches)
QOTD-
MK, Wayyyy too easy, Cinderella's Castle of course!!! :cloud9:
The rest are not as easy. But for now I will say in all the "monuments" and think about it more as the day goes on.
EPCOT- (Ball)
HS- (Hat)
AK- (Tree)

Jessica - I'm sorry to hear about your DH's job situation. Not to minimize the situation, but I've heard more and more stories like yours where senior management makes these WACKED decisions that leave everyone DUMBFOUNDED. I really hope all the sincere prayers that we're all sending help!

My family got some sad news, too. My grandfather passed away Sunday. He was 90 and his health took a serious turn for the worse a week earlier. Thankfully, my grandmother is doing extremely well - she obviously prepared herself for this and truly believes he is in a better place. And she was exhausted, worried about him in the past couple of years as his demensia got worse. But we were very blessed to have him in our lives, and in our kids' lives, for so many years. We were planning to visit my grandparents at their new apartment in Winterhaven before we drove into WDW, but now we'll visit my grandmother and share happy memories!

On a completely different note, I received my $100 Disney gift card today for signing up with Chase Disney Rewards Visa as a DVC member! :thumbsup2

So sorry about your grandpa. My great-grandma is 98 and I worry everytime we see her that it will be the last. I know she has lived a great life, but it is still sad to think about.

I am sorry about your mom.

My heart goes out to you, Summerlady and to all of you on here who have suffered a loss recently! You all will be in our thoughts and prayers and hope you find comfort and strength in the coming days ahead!

So sorry for everyone experiencing loss this week:grouphug:

QOTD:
MK- Castle suite!
DHS- In warm weather we would camp out in the "Endor forest" In cold weather the muppet theater
EPCOT- bed down in turtle talk (lots of floor space!)
AK- In warm weather we would camp out on one of the trails, in cold weather in it's tough to be a bug.

MK The Castle
Epcot Somewhere in World Showcase, Maybe Italy
HS TOT
AK Tree of Life

I think I'll go with the halloween factor here .... this would probably change depending on the season.

MK - Hmmm This is actually the toughest one for me - I guess the obvious one is Haunted Mansion. I just can't figure out where in the mansion though.
Epcot - Norway/Maelstrom or near the freaky troll. Imagine how that thing would look with just the moonlight shining in if you were sleeping at the foot of it. :scared1:
DHS - TOT - Top floor
DAK - Dinasour - near the end, right before you get eaten.. well almost eaten.

I also think that maybe taken a run over to Discovery Island for a night could be a fright!

I'm sorry for those of you who have lost a loved one recently.
Jessica, I hope you get some good news on the job front, it's horrible the way they did your Dh.

And can I just say.....we're 45 days out!!!!

Great question!!! I will answer for me and discuss with the family tonite and let you all know how our answer differ.

MK - The Castle definitely!
Epcot - At the Land or somewhere in France (that way I could be first in line for a pastry the next day :thumbsup2)
HS - The Great Movie Ride (checking out all the details would be neat to me)
AK - If I could have my tent it would have to be the Kilimanjaro Safari. Being able to see all those animals around all night would be awesome. If no tent, then probably Camp Minnie and Mickey.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I know all to well it is a hard road. Please know you and your family will be in my prayers. :grouphug:

The one year anniversary of my Mom's passing (from cancer as well) will be during our trip. I know being at Disney will not make me forget, but I am hoping and praying it will make that week a little more bearible as I know I still have not accepted the loss. (I hope for you that you do better than me!)

Lori, I am sorry for the loss of your grandfather. You and your family will be in my prayers as well. :grouphug:

 summerlady, so sorry for your loss. My own mother died of cancer 11 years ago and I still miss her. Prayers and strength to your whole family.

Such sad news on the board today. Prayers going out to Jessica, Lori, and Summerlady.

I've got a question for those of you where are Disney veterans. How early do you stake out a viewing location for Illuminations? I think I'm going to plan for it on our first 1/2 Epcot day, and am wondering if we'll have time to sneak in one more ride after our 6:40 Akershus ADR, or if we should just plan on finding a viewing place after dinner.

Oh! One more Epcot question: will the rides in FW stay open during Illuminations on PM EMH nights? That's part of my motivation for doing Illuminations on the first night, so that the second night we can head to FW while most people are crowded around WS and hit some good ride times.

I really think you need to stake out your location after Akershus. When we plan to watch Illuminations we usually make an ADR at Rose & Crown for 7:30ish and then stay for dessert. The timing works well for dessert during Illuminations. We ask for an outdoor table. In the past, the quick service restaurant in Mexico which is now La Hacienda was a good viewing location too. I don't know if their new outdoor tables will be available. People start staking out locations for watch Illuminations at around 7:30-8:00 on busy evenings. You might want to walk around World Showcase in advance and pick a few spots that you like. Notice if there are handi-capped signs. Disney ropes off some very prime viewing area for handicapped people in wheel chairs and their parties. These are manned locations so there is no sneaking. This is good though, because someone who cannot get out of their wheel chair to stand would have a hard time viewing the show just anywhere. I'd be very cautious of trying to sneak in something after Akershus.

My kids were excited to hear some of your answers to the QOTD. Especially the freaky troll, because that is a standing joke in our family (my oldest son was so scared of the trolls when he was young). Hope everyone is having a good night!

Ohh good point. I actually AM a paraplegic, and we will need to head to one of the accessible viewing areas. Last time I was in WDW was pre-spinal cord injury, so I had forgotten that I can't just view it from wherever like before. Thankfully it looks like there are some accessible viewing areas not far from Norway, so we'll just plan to head over there after our dinner.
