Fun! We are staying in WH too. It will be our first time staying off site. Have you been there before? It looks nice, REALLY close and we got a 3 bdrm townhouse for a great price! [SIZE]

Hi ksueboo, you picked the perfect place for your first off-site stay! WH is absolutely great. The grounds are impeccable, the gatehouse staff are friendly. The clubhouse pool is just beautiful, with the zero entry leisure pool being wonderful for children. There's a reaally nice playground. Can you tell I love the place? Being able to do laundry as you would at home means you can pack much lighter. You may never go back to a resort room again.

Soooooooooo We were wondering what we would do once our ADR's were done well I have no problem filling part of my extra time now, I find myself going to check for an earlier ressies for Le Cellier when I wake up before I head to bed and intermitently during the day

Ok and now for a QOTD........Is there one or more special souveinirs you plan on buying this vacation?

I have three items I plan on buying, first my Mickey Christmas Hat/Ears to wear at the MVMCP, second I plan on doing the "pick a pearl" in Japan, for years I have stopped and looked but never did it and lastly I so want one of the Disney Dooney & Burke Bags but still not sure about plunking down all that $$$

We always buy a photo album and picture frame with the year on it. Guess we won't be worrying about the album now tho, since they are not putting the year on it. I get a watch every year. We also always get a popcorn bucket from each park.

My two school age kids will be preschool and 1st grade so I am not worried about taking them out, but for those of you with older kids how do they handle being taken out of school for a week or more? I would love to keep our vacations to november as I think it's a great time to travel, but I am worried as they get older it will be hardr to catch up from missing school!

Because Fantasmic is the only show during the week of Nov. 1...I had to move my storybook dinner to the 3rd instead of the 4th and I was able to get the time I wanted. Whew!!!! I was going to skip Fantasmic, but DH is was adament about DD2 seeing it for her first time, plus it's my favorite show in all of WDW. Anyway, that was a close one! If they add more shows...I hope they won't...then I may have a problem. Eeeek.

For me, I would never take my kids out for the week. I was even struggling with taking them out for the two days during Thanksgiving week. I justified it because in our area, those two days have only a 15-20% attendance level. So they do nothing. Apparently the school board caught onto that also and we now have the full week of Thanksgiving off starting the 10/11 school year. My oldest DD has only missed 1 day of school since she started school and she is now in 4th grade. And that that was this year. We didn't book till she had missed that day. I don't think I would have planned our trip if she still hadn't missed a day. She is extremely proud of her attendance. And so am I!

QOTD: I don't know!! ha!! I don't buy the same thing every time....I do like picture frames,kitchen aprons, pjs,stationary,..usually I find something I can't live without!!

We homeschool so I can arrange our vacation as I need to.My oldest was in public school for a few years in elementary, I took him out for vacations. Once they are in hs I can see where it would get sticky...but unless it was exam week, I would still take them out!!

QOTD: Definately a Christmas Mickey hat, and a 2010 Christmas ornament. I usually get a bag, but would have to pray really hard for a D&B bag.

We took DD out of school last year for a week in May, knowing that would be the last time she could miss school time for a trip. She is in middle school sports now in the fall and spring, so our only week of no activities during school is Thanksgiving week (our kids get the whole week off.)

QOTD: My kids get mickey ears every year, and I do want an ornament going so close to christmas. I am hoping to find a cute Mickey necklace this year, looked at home for mothers day, but couldn't find anything here (I'm hoping for better choices in the parks)
Also, I always take my kids out for a week, this fall my older son is starting middle school, so I was a little more concerned, which is why we are going Thanksgiving week, he'll only miss 3 days of school (we took Fri too, so we could go to MVMCP).

Hmm. . . good question. . . that's something I haven't really thought about yet. We usually use our Disney rewards dollars for souvenirs. I know I will be getting a 2011 calendar, I love having a WDW calendar hanging in my kitchen! Other than that, not sure yet. . .

We have taken them out each year. 5 days each year. We have never had a problem with it, as far as the school goes. The schools in the north are more lenient about these things than the schools in the south. That is what I have learned on the DIS anyway!! My kids rarely miss any other school and have excellent grades. If they missed a lot of school or had bad grades I wouldn't even consider it. Our school actually allows for up to 10 days for "excused educational absences". I would never take them our more than 5. I do have to write up a formal request telling what all they will learn. But it's just procedure and it always approved.

All that being said, this is probably the last year we will do it. DS11 will be in 6th grade when we go in November. Each year the make-up work gets to be more and more. It's getting hard on him. So once he hits 7th grade I have my doubts about taking him out for more than about 3 days. . . SO - after this year we will either have to start going in the summer and endure the heat, or go over a school holiday and endure the crowds. It's going to stink either way!

I took my DS out of son out of school twice to vacation in Disney he was in middle school at the time, once the teachers gave him work to do and return the other time he had work from a few and one teacher had him write a report on the trip since as he said he felt WDW could be educational. I know quite a few families did the excused absences for family vacations in our school at the time. My older DS was done with school by time we made our frist trip but he did let his complaint be known that we never let him go on vacation during school time,

As Px4 mentioned the Disney Store sells them, QVC had them I heard but I also read a TR here on the Dis and the writer had bought one while in Disney, not sure if at a resort shop or in DTD but I do plan on looking around while on vacation.
