My 16 yr old dd has been granted her wish from Make a Wish foundation which is to go to Disney the week of Christmas and stay at the Grand Floridian. We leave Dec 24th and other than that I don't have any other details...and it is driving me crazy because we are both planners...lol! Planning is half the fun of a Disney vacation :) We have never stayed at GF before so do you guys have any recomendations of not to miss or suggestions while we are there? Any info or comments are greatly appreciated!

:welcome: How wonderful your family will be heading to the World for Christmas, especially at the Grand.

Have you checked out the first page of this thread? It has a lot of info on the resort: rooms, activities, restaurants, shops, etc.

Some of our favorite activities while at the GF are renting Sea Raycers and racing around the Lagoon; hanging out at the pool, often with a drink;) ; sitting in the lobby, especially in the late afternoon when the pianist begins playing; shopping; having dinner at any one of the wonderful restaurants - our favorites are breakfast or lunch at the GF Cafe, or afternoon tea at the Garden View Lounge (we love tea so much, we often book it twice in a trip); sitting outside Gasparilla's late at night, waiting for and watching Wishes; wandering the grounds, admiring the landscaping; having a massage at the spa.

HTH!:flower3: Ask anything, we all love discussing our favorite resort!

Hi fellow GF's, sorry I haven't been around much but we just got back yesterday from an amazing week at the GF and wanted to give you an update. We were in Big Pine Key (room 9410) and our view overlooked the quiet pool and it was AWESOME. Even though they had some fencing up for construction none was done that week and was very quiet, we saw weddings almost every day.

It was very quiet as it always seems to be there, at the waterfall pool it was even quieter as sometimes there was no one to do the afternoon activities but it was also fairly cool and if the sun was not out directly on the pool it was cold as it stayed pretty windy all week.

Housekeeping outstanding as always, though a couple of days they came after 3pm which I didn't like but the last 3 days they were always done by 2pm. Our greeting on our arrival days was amazing we were greeted like royalty. On our departure day it was quite busy as they mentioned when I complained about leaving (haha) that they were sold out that night but could find me a bench!:rotfl:

All in all each trip we take there gets better. We are probably going to wait and go until October 2013 as DH now wants to stay in a dormer room with a lagoon view and we also want at least one extra day.

Happy to report we got power back yesterday!

Just catching up on the thread. Love the picture janeapplemeadow, and that was nice of you Lulu'smom to help get it posted! AND I also loved your pool and palm tree photo KCMike!

Wbh1964, how wonderful Make A Wish granted your daughter's wish. K&a&c'smom made some great suggestions. A couple other thoughts, dinner at Narcoossees so you can watch the fireworks from your table. Also, I know from experience that chemo can mean that sitting at a pool in the sun can be a problem, what about renting a cabana for an afternoon? Let us know what she likes to do and we can come up with more suggestions.

Welcome home S&k'smom!

A photo for tonight

What is the status of the gingerbread house? We leave in two days and I hoping it is complete for our trip Nove 9-16.:santa:

Hello from Disney!!!

junglecruiser-I am so glad your power is finally back on!!!

Soooooooooooooo. Best laid plans. We went to check into the Grand Saturday morning and we greeted by the Manager who was very sorry, but they overbooked AND a wedding planner messed up so our room was not available. To say I was disappointed is an understatement, but they moved us to a 2BR suite at the YC. We just checked out, and are enjoying our last day.Took me forever to figure out DHs Blackberry, but I wanted to post a pic. It is crowded here (start of Jersey week, but the weekend was busier) Weather is mild, few sprinkles Sat night, and on/off yesterday afternoon. Xmas decorations (except tree) up at Epcot and MK, DHS fully decorated. There is XMas music on Main street, and DHS. I only did the Grand lobby, and I did check out RPC...lovely BTW. But am I holding a grugde....yes....No decorations at the resorts yet

Here's a pic from O'Hanas where I had a table by the window....my view at breakfast...

Sorry you didn't get to stay RPC!

BTW, was the 2bedrm suite at the YC CL nice? ;)
Can't wait for your full trip report. Take care and enjoy the rest of your trip!:cloud9:

Enjoyed hearing about what is going on at Disney. How busy was busy over the weekend? What were some wait times?

Hello pas130 aka, Nurse Perdue! So good to hear from you. I too am sorry to hear about the RPC, however I would imagine a suite at the YC is wonderful.

Enjoy the rest of your trip, we are thinking about you!

Thank you to Lulu'sMom! I love the little turkey!

You're welcome!

Jungle Cruiser - so glad you have your power back, I know you must be relieved!

s&k'smom - Welcome back, it sounds like you had a wonderful, relaxing stay at the Grand.:cloud9:

pas130 - Awww, sorry to hear you were walked from the GF. Not cool.:headache: Did you enjoy the suite at the YC, at least? Or, were you sorry you didn't keep your Poly reservation? I hope you enjoyed your last day and your travels home were safe and uneventful.

Power on, but no phones. All I can hear are chain saws cutting what's left of the trees.

Our friends are staying at the BC this summer. I am trying to tell them how wonderful it would be for them to stay at the GF. When were were at the GF two summers ago, they were at the Poly and walked over to the GF and loved it. My kids don't want to stay any place except the GF.

Hope everyone is well. Today is election day and either way, I will celebrate if I am re-elected or not.
