I don't like the walls either but we all discussed it and we are not going to let that intrude in on our vacation. Hey, I would stay in the basement if I had to just to be able to stay at the GF. Well maybe not the basement but you know what I mean.

I see you are staying at the Portofino Bay Hotel. Love that hotel. We just stayed at the Hard Rock in June for our DS15 and I don't care to go back there anytime soon. Have a great time.

Glad you liked it! This is our first onsite Universal stay. AND our first GRAND stay too

Looking forward to our first stay at the GF in October. We're getting married on the beach at the Poly, but staying at the GF. Can't wait! Any advice from the GF veterans at something we should not miss while we're there? We're staying CL at the SL and have reservations at Citricos.

Also, KCmike, I see from your signature you stayed at the Grand Californian in 2010. I was there in 2007, just in the lobby during a day trip to Disneyland when we were out there on vacation. My impression was the hotel was an "elegant" Wilderness Lodge. Are the rooms nice, on the same scale as the GF?

45 days until we leave for the GF. Since we are driving from NJ, we are 46 from arrival, but whose's counting?!!!

Great thread! Stayed at GF in 2009 (Big Pine Key) for the first time and now we're considering going back for our 15th wedding anniversary next year. We want to do it up and splurge on CL (SL). I know that our view will be of either the marina or the quiet pool, so the "unofficial" DVC construction would not interfere with a VIEW, but will it make sense to stay at the GF (a year from now) with scaffolding, cranes, possible noise, etc.?

WWYD? Would you still book or would you move over to Poly's CL instead?

I LOVE the Poly, it has always been my favorite, but I now prefer the light and airy feeling I get while sitting at a small table by the beach LOOKING at the Poly. Will the new "unofficial" DVC now block that view? I wasn't sure I would want to return to GF, but I've been bitten!

How long of a walk is it from the Monorail station to Narcoossee's?

And then, about how long does it take for the boat ride to MK (which I think is the boat dock is right near Narcoossee's?)

The walk from the monorail to Narcoossees is maybe 5 minutes. The dock for the boat to the MK is right outside of Narcossees but the boat ride will take at least 20 minutes since it goes to the Polynesian before it goes to the MK. It's a nice boat ride, but the monorail is much faster.

I've read on the disney site that you can purchase wi-fi access cards from the business center, anyone know how much these are?

It also states on the disney site that dvd players are in club rooms but can be requested at the front desk, anyone requested one?

Does anyone know how disruptive the construction at GF will likely be this December? I know that it has not been particularly obtrusive as of yet, but I wonder if noise/scaffolding/etc will likely increase as the project continues.

Will the walkway between the Poly and GF still be open?

We are interested in staying at the GF for a holiday trip this December, but don't want to shell out the extra $ for the GF if it will not feel peaceful and the grounds will not be as beautiful as usual.
