Oh, I'm sorry, let me clarify. When I meant down the beach, I meant like, extending all the way from by the Wedding Pavillion to the actual Grotto Pool. Where exactly is the Spa currently located within the GF itself? If it has to close due to construction, is it on the far end where construction would actually reach that far?

Here is the link to where I found this info

When you said down the beach I almost fell off my chair.:rotfl: It is still disappointing as I didn't think they were going to start construction that soon considering it was just a so called rumor. But that's Disney.

Ok I have to add that I just spoke to my DH and he said we are not changing the GF as nothing is going to stop him and us from staying there.

I just looked at the map, so the construction walls will be VERY close to the Grotto Pool.

I feel so sorry for anyone getting married at the Wedding Pavillion within the next 18-20 months. :( The construction will be all around it. Who wants to get married to the sounds of "progress" going on around you. :(

There has been a heck of flutter about his for quite a while on the wedding boards. And, as usual, there seems to be conflicting information depending on who you talk to.

I hope this construction goes at light speed for those ladies and gents.

For all of the spa guests, I think it would be wrong for the GF to make them hoof it on a bus to another resort. By "bussing" I hope they mean a dedicated van shuttle for spa/exercise guests only. They should also include Poly in that shuttle because Poly guests also use the spa and exercise facilities at GF.

I also would assume that if they are closing the spa, they must also be closing the walkway from Poly to GF:confused3 That will totally suck for guests at both Poly and GF with dining ressies.

I am sincerely worried. We had planned on taking our son to Neverland Club, twice, from the Grand (because it's a much nicer kids' club and he had a great time last time), to do dinners out because we know the walkway was so convenient. My husband works out every morning or he's totally grumpy and "taking a shuttle" to do so, ain't gonna cut it. Plus, my son was really excited about the Disney "beach" at the Grand. (I know it's a little lame, but he's four and sand is fun.)

How do they justify the cost of an RPC club level room--which is what we're paying--with this going on? I am definitely rethinking (again, arghhh!!!) our plans. And, by the way, NO ONE has mentioned ANY construction going on at any point during any of my discussions with Disney booking or IPO, including when making reservations for the Neverland Club or asking about the gym which seems to me pretty suspect (unless what we're hearing here isn't true).

When we visited the Ritz in Cancun a few years back (paying less for room than we are the Grand, by the way), they were very careful to tell us, multiple times, that there was some resort construction going on ... And even upgraded us to a suite to "compensate" ... Though when we got there we couldn't even see it (it was mostly interior work). Nothing like the huge wall I see in this video: http://www.laughingplace.com/Lotion-View-1217.asp

Does it really stink that bad, or am I over-reacting? (We are going next month and staying for nine days.)

My husband, too, will be bummed about the closing of the spa - he loves a good massage and looks forward to one every time we go.

As for the beach, there is plenty of sandy beach that's closer to the main building that won't be anywhere near the walls, so your little guy can play in the sand with no problem.

We love the walk to and from the Poly, especially for breakfast at the Kona Cafe, so I hope they can somehow keep the walkway open...

Maybe those guests staying at the Polynesian and Grand Floridian that want to exercrise will be allowed to use the GYM at the Contemporary for no charge during this time, since it's the only other location on the Resort Monorail and would be the easiest one to arrive at.

We are not changing either, but I have to say i am not happy that the walls are already going up. Still optimistic that we will have a GRAND time ;)

I don't like the walls either but we all discussed it and we are not going to let that intrude in on our vacation. Hey, I would stay in the basement if I had to just to be able to stay at the GF.:rotfl: Well maybe not the basement but you know what I mean.

I see you are staying at the Portofino Bay Hotel. Love that hotel. :cloud9: We just stayed at the Hard Rock in June for our DS15 and I don't care to go back there anytime soon. Have a great time.

Wow!!!!! What a great thread! I have enjoyed reading everythilng about the Grand Floridian. My husband and I, my teenage daughter and her friend will be staying for our first "Grand" visit September 17th. We are very excited. We will be staying in the Sugar Loaf Buildilng.

We have been going to Disney World for 18 years and have stayed at CBR, CS, POR, POFQ, WL, Poly and, now, the Grand Floridian. We ate there at the counter service last year because the counter service at the Poly is not very good. I took a few photos and here are a few:

I have had a bit of a setback and have been in the hospital for a few days. I am feeling so much better today so I went on my iPad and read the pages I have missed. KCmike, you have no idea how good it is to see your pictures of the GF. I can feel the sun, picture the views in my mind, it's been just the medicine I need. Thank you so much for posting them. We are 52 days from our next trip to Sugar Loaf. I absolutely can't wait.

Jungle Cruiser sorry to hear that you were in the hospital but definitely glad to hear that you are feeling much better.:grouphug: 52 days and you will be at the Grand. :cloud9:Have a wonderful time.:flower3:

My DS has an iPad and he loves it. He can do everything and anything from that little contraption. He does all his papers for school and then prints from it as well. I am happy that he doesn't have to use my lap top anymore.:thumbsup2

I have been out of touch once again, and I am quickly trying to catch up.
KC Mike LOVE the pics! :lovestruc
Disappointed  to read that the "walls" have gone up for some construction, but nothing I can do about it at this point. We will just make the best of it.
Besides we are down to single digits, how can one not be happy  ?
Just an FYI, I decided to skip the express check-in.
