The NEW Disney's Contemporary Resort FAQ with PICTURES! (Feb 2008)

Just trying to get a basic timeline down. Lots of transportation questions here:

Travelling from Airport to CR:
How long does it typically take to get to CR using the Disney transportation?

Returning to the Airport from the CR. We have an early flight (9 something). What time would you leave CR to get to the Airport ontime. Or are we better off having a service bring us to the airport?

Travelling from CR to parades:
If you want to see 9PM Fantasmic or the 3pm Block Party Parade at HS what time would you leave CR? (We have ADRs for the dinner package, but it is around 4ish - just trying to figure in breaks)

If you want to go to MK Dreams parade for 3pm what time should you leave CR? (or Spectromagic and Wishes).

How long does it take to get to Downtown Disney from CR?

I am assuming I should also take into account the elevator times we are in the Tower (MK view).

Lastly, what does everyone typically do on their first day at WDW.
1. MCO-CR i would say maybe a good 1.5 hours to 2 + hours (traffic, time of day, # if people, ect.)
2. CR-MCO At that time of day, I would give it a good hour + your 2 hour mark
3. I think Magical Express is fine. I used it on my last trip. Not having to deal with luggage was AMAZING. and not driving to us is another plus. I would keep it
4. CR-MK for POD if your walking, (this all depends if you want a good spot) anywhere from an hour or more to 30 minutes. If your taking the monorail 50 minutes to 1 and 20 minutes (using the same spot question as walking)
5. CR-DTD this depends on how lucky you are with buses. The wait time really varies. The actual travel time should be maybe a little more than half an hour, depending on stops at Poly or GF
6. If i remember correctly, both sides share the main elevator in the central of the building, but I would factor in any where from 0-10 minutes depending on time of day
7. My first day Since I come from CA, and usually catch a 6am flight out, we usually don't get to our hotel until 4:30, so we usually rest in our room until our character meal that night
HAVE A GREAT TRIP!!!

For our Dec trip, my DH and DM are all going to the World :cool1:

When we were first planning the trip, we were at the Y&B Club, but as a surprise for my DM (this is her first trip back to WDW since '87) I've book the Contemporary! When we went when I was 7 she always wanted to bring me back and stay at "the place where the monorail goes through", so I know she will be SO surprised by the switch...here's the problem.

I know she will want to send a package down to meet us for a surprise for DH and me...if I don't tell her we switched resorts what will happen to the package? Will it still go to the Y&B Club? Will it get transferred to the Contemporary? Will it be lost?!?! Anyone have experience in this?? TIA

The longest ME has taken us is 1 hour and that was to POP. The shortest was 40 mins to Poly. We generally get into MCO around 9am.

For your return flight you will need to be ready to leave 3 hours before your flight.

One thing you could do is say that you wanted to ship some stuff down too, so that way, you guys could "share" the box and that way you could label and mail it without her seeing it
Good Luck!

Okay, we bit the bullet and have switched our res from a garden view to MK view now that AP rates are out. To justify the $$$ I decided we'd all need a treat by that point in dh's deployment. Question: If I want to request a higher floor- do I do that with CR directly, or through the travel agent? And does it really matter if you're on a lower floor? Is the view that much better up high?

Thanks-
Julie

My family and I have had the Magic Kingdom View as low as the 6th floor, which is the lowest you can get (there are none on the 5th floor because of the Monorail station, so only the Bay Lake View) and we did not see a difference when you compare it to the 11th floor, which is the highest non Club Level floor you can select.

As for your question if you booked your trip with a travel agent I believe they own it until you check-in, so all requests go threw them. If you made the reservation yourself then you could call CRO and make a request for the 11th floor.

That sounds like a good idea.

This would be a wonderful idea...but she'll never go for it. :worried: She'll want it to be a surprise for me and DH. She won't admit to sending anything down. I know she will though b/c she's always sent us things to WDW when we've gone and we'll be in the world over St. Nick's Day which equals gifts.

Will it go missing if I don't tell her??? :worried: I don't want to ruin this surprise...

Thanks CR Resort Fan 4 Life. I know it works that way for cruises, wasn't sure for park visits. I don't know if I'll bother, if the view's not all that different. Our big kids are so excited. CR was their first "deluxe" deluxe (I know people don't consider WL a true deluxe) and they can't wait to go back, especially oldest dd. We stayed in the North Wing when Shades of Green was using it back in 2002.

Well there is nothing wrong with requesting a high floor if that's what you want. If you get it that's even better, however either way you still get the view and that should what is most important.

Is there some way to have her not ship anything down, or will she want to know matter what? I was thinking if she agreed to that a great surprise would be tell her that there was something you wanted to purchase that was only for sell at the Contemporary and when you arrived there you could tell her the good news.

You could say, if you are going to ship anything down, here are the labels to use. You cold give those sticker like ones already filled in. But just don't write the name of the hotel.

That's if she does not know the address written down is the Contemporary and not the Yacht Club or the Beach Club.

true... and i don't know the addresses of these places, but lets hope the street isn't named after the hotel
The address for the Contemporary is 4600 North World Drive. As for the Yacht Club they're address is 1700 Epcot Resorts Blvd and the Beach Club is 1800 Epcot Resorts Blvd. So for those two Resorts Epcot is mentioned in the address.

MUDisneyCouple-- one thing you could do is post in the general resort board. i'm sure you'll tons of idea from them

CR Resort Fan 4 Life and spaceace510 - Thanks so much you two...I don't think I'll be able to get around it. I'm hoping that if she sends something, it will be sent over to Contemporary when it hits the Y&B. She will know the addresses b/c I've shown her Deb's site before to show her addys of the previous resorts DH and I have stayed at...never saw that as a bad thing before this ;) I just don't see a way around it...I'll check over at the resort thread; before I ruin the surprise :worried:
Thanks again for all the good ideas!!!

Katy: Make sure your ressie # is on the mailing label & then call Y&B Club the week b4 & let them know a package may be arriving for you that needs to be transferred to Contemporary. Let them know you have switched resorts & are worried the package won't get to you. See what they say...

You're welcome and be sure to let us know how things worked out.

I second this. You'll need to talk to the Yacht Club. I'm sure the package will not end up at the CR if you don't.
