What a great thread! I've booked a stay at CSR in large part due to the great reviews here. One question on the king bed rooms. Looks like the upgrade options are for either king bed or preferred view. Does this mean none of the king rooms are water view?

We had requested water view then were offered a king bed as an upgrade when we arrived for our honeymoon, but when we got to the room, it was a parking lot/tree view. We went back to the front desk, and the girl told us there were no king/water views available. She didn't specify whether or not they existed, just that none were available and gave us the choice.

Just our opinion, but the water view room was much nicer. The king bed was barely off the floor, and the room was very dark and dingy looking. It may have been one of the worse king rooms, but I just wasn't happy the moment I walked in. It was kind of depressing, for a Disney hotel. The water view room was much better, and was a corner room overlooking the lake, so the view was great.

Depends on what you would like to be close to, if you rather be closer to the main building, then go for casita 3 lakeside. If you want to be closer to the main pool, request casita 5 lakeside. If you want to be next to the quiet pool, request casita 4.

I've already requested my Casita 3 room, but I'm still worried .... do any of Casita 3 rooms overlook a parking lot? I dont' mind a garden, courtyard or fountain view, but I really hate looking out at a parking lot.

No casita 3 rooms overlook a parking lot. Casita 3 is in interior building surround by Lagi Dorado on one side and fountains and courtyards on the other.

WE just back last sunday from CSR 8 nights. We were at Casitas 3 Room 3497 looking to the lions Fountain. Th room was the last room of the building just by the quiet pool and the beauty parlor. Nice room very short walk to El Centro and even shorter to Bus stop #2. We really love Pepper Market and Maya Grill. We have dinner 2 times at Maya. I think the Maya Filet was the best Filet I ate at WDW. I got the Mug and was an excellent idea (Thanks DISboars) Only one night my son and I went to Dig site he was afraid hiting the slide but he loved the "Spilling Statue". The transportation was excellent the buses were practically to us, execpt Saturday when we went to MK. We are planning our next trip for Febrary 2007 and we are turning back to this wonderful resort

How far in advance of our arrival will the hotel get our reservation. We are traveling with other families and have requested to be near each other and I want to call and try to lock that down if possible.

The resort gets it 5 days prior including your arrival day. Some guests say that the resorts no longer accept faxes and some say they do. As long as you made your requests on your reservation, you should be good.

I. That's why it is much better to go to a resort that has a convention center, the "conventioneers" do not, as a general rule, use the park busses.

While we are at it, I have another pet peeve about the bad rap CSR gets because of the convention center. How come no one every mentions it as a negative when referring to the multiple other resorts that have convention centers? (i.e., Contemporary, Yacht Club, Grand Floridian, etc..). If it isn't a "negative" for those, then it shouldn't be a negative for CSR.

Well, I've never stayed at CSR but I really would like to our next trip and it being a so-called convention hotel made me think of a few POSITIVES about staying there:
-if many people are attending conferences, then that is less people in the pools and on the buses
-i'm assuming the majority of conventioneers travel without their kids...although I love the themed pools, if I were without my kids I would be just as happy lazying around by a quiet pool!
-how many adults would head to the arcade without their kids? I know my DH would! But I think most adults on a working vacation would not head to the arcade to spend any length of time

To me, these things make me think that all the things my kids will LOVE about the resort (the themed pool and arcade especially) would have less crowds simply because there are people attending conventions and conferences. Does anyone know if I am wrong in this line of thinking? I'm just soooo torn at where I would like to stay in May but CSR is near the top of my list!

Also, can someone tell me which building (room no. too if poss!) is the ABSOLUTE POSITIVELY CLOSEST to the Dig Site (and how far that bldg/room woudl be from the closest bus stop). ...in minutes walk time would be great to know!!! Thanks for all the info!!

We found that on the whole everyone was far to busy with their very important conferences to bother with little things like swimming or going to the parks! We were in cabanas 9b and that was 2 minutes to the bus stop (the one outside the front of El Centro). Our room faced the "ring road" (across a stretch of watern and some lovely plants) so we could see if we needed to run to make the bus

Its not the nearest to the dig site or Pepper Market, but either way is a nice walk beside the lake with lots to see.

We had two VERY MINOR inconveniences:
1) we were waiting in line to get our safe deposit box out and a "suit" cut across to ask the CM how to get to Casitas -with a brief gesture and "sorry I'll be quick" (because I wore shorts obviously my time was far less important than his ). She told him briefly and as he left it poured (the CM said with a smile "serves him right for cutting line " )

2) Our server one morning at the Maya Grill disappeared to make an omlette for the suit at the next table - he was gone way long!

The other good thing is the gift shop has more upmarket souvenirs and a great luggage range if you need extra bags. Also, the queues for refilling mugs are rarely huge at any time of day!

See, this is what is part of its appeal to me....the pool is the BIG DEAL with my kids!!! And it not being crowded is my big deal. I was worried about the bus system as I had heard bad things, but it seems that has changed. Last time we went I wanted CSR but the code was booked out, so we had to settle for POFQ. This time I'm watching very closely for a code so that I can call the minute it comes out (if it does!!!).

I agree that there is tons of stuff to see. One night on our last trip we saw a bunch of ducks in the water outside PM diving for fish, then noticed that about 10 feet away an alligator was slowly making its way over to the ducks. It was really cool to see the alligator that close, but also a little scary. I have to admit I did back away from the railing as it came closer!

Here is a picture from WDW website from the CS description. Which sectio is this from? Ranchero, Casita or Cabannas?

I like this color scheme better than the ones that I have seen in other pictures, but can't figure out which section.

What do you mean the "queues"? I have only stayed at the WL on site and there we filled our own mugs? Is it done differently at CS?

I know the picture is not from Ranchos. We just returned from there 10/31. The carpeting and bedspread are the same ones we had, but the headboard is completely different. The dresser is the same, except ours was blue. I think possibly all the bedspreads are the same now, the furniture just varies in the three sections. Hope this helps!

I'm no expert, but if you look at pictures of the rooms on allearsnet, it looks like the dresser and the headboards are from the casitas. I actually like these bedspreads better than the ones in the allearsnet pictures. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

First pic on my website has a pic of the new spreads in the cabanas. I think they all look the same now.

We will be at CSR starting on 11/25/05. We're very excited!! I have put in a request for Cabana 8a and I understand the whole concept of how "requests" are handled. I understand that Cabana 9a is smoking optional. My nephew has asthma and my wife and I cannot tolerate the smell of smoke (nothing against smokers). Is there a noticeable smell of smoke in 9a? I just don't want to get assigned to Cabana 9a. I will definitely say something if this occurs. Any info would help. Thanks.
