I would suggest staying away from the downtown disney buses if you want to get anywhere quickly. The wait times for all disney resorts from downtown disney are usually pretty long and if you catch it at market place you will also stop at pleasure island.

Your best bet would be to take a bus to the magic kingdom and then the boat to wilderness lodge. Sometimes the boats go to both the wilderness lodge and fort wilderness. At other times they have their own boats.

I totally agree with mickeystoontown. Go to MK then hop the boat. Besides, it's a nice short boat ride over to the lodge. :)

Is there a thread somewhere that talks about all the boats and buses to where? I'll have my car. However, I would like a chance to catch a boat! I was really looking forward to that from POR to DTD.

Check out the Transportation post, #8, of this thread for a map of all WDW transportation.:thumbsup2

So you think the MK then boat to WL is the best option to and from? I am kind of excited about that as we've never been able (or needed) to catch a boat ride before. Kind of looking forward to it.

Thanks so much!

:thanks:

Yes, that would be the best option. And depending on what time Wishes is that night, you may have an awesome view of it from the boat on the way back to MK. We caught it like that once and it was spectacular.:thumbsup2

We just returned from CBR (May 31 - June 4). We were in Jamaica 44 room 4444 :p . Our room was ready at 7:00am when we moved over from POR. I had always wanted to try a Royal Room and almost changed our entire stay to POR; just couldn't do it! A room only the night before our package stay was just the thing.

I will admit in the safety of this group that I was positively giddy at check in... yes, giddy. As in bouncing up and down happy! :hyper: Even though we had "officially" arrived on property the night before, THIS was when my true Disney Experience began.

Our room was nice and quiet, overlooking the court yard, around the corner from the quiet pool and just across the parking lot from the bus stop. We never waited long for a bus, but only saw the internal shuttle once. However, this could have been because we were never waiting long! ;)

Our tub was not draining properly the first day, but maintenance came bright and early and had it fixed in a jiffy.

We walked past the construction "staging" area every day on our way to the bus and could occasionally hear some sounds of destruction/construction going on inside the fence but never were able to see anything other than a bunch of empty boxes and pallets. Never even saw a construction worker!

The only signs of a refurb I saw was some papers taped to the windows in one of the buildings (I'm guessing it was 41 since we were on the bus at the time) and the smell of fresh paint; couldn't get close enough for any more details.

I just LOVE CBR and don't know that I will ever be brave enough to stay anywhere else. DH, however, wants to try AKL Savanna View next trip. We may just have to stay in separate resorts! LOL

Which reminds me of one of my favourite wishes experiences. We were on Splash Mountain on Christmas Day and just as we came over the edge for the big drop, there was a huge volley of fireworks that seemed like it was timed just for us. We've tried to duplicate this again but it has never been quite the same. :)

Thanks for the report. So glad you had a great stay!:cool1:

We had our car this trip (first time) and still preferred to use Disney Transportation. Some will agree, some will disagree. However, I think it's not too much of a stretch to assume it will be mostly unanimous to stay away from driving (more specifically parking) at DTD. It's a nightmare!

In light of this, is is possible to drive to POR and park and then hop the boat from there. Last year, we stayed and POR and the boat was awsome!

We will be flying down for the first time this fall. Also for the first time, we will be completely dependent on Disney transportation.

Our first day, we are going to relax at the resort, but we have dinner reservations at 7:50 pm at Whispering Canyon. I checked out the link to the bus/transportation routes, and it looks like CBR to Epcot to WL will be pretty easy. However, with it being opening day for the Food and Wine festival, and Epcot closing at 10, I don't think we will want to take the same route back. We can either take bus or boat to MK then bus back to CBR or go to DTD and back to CBR by bus. Does anyone have experience doing either of these. Just wondering which option, or alternative option, may be best.

Thanks in advance!

In the past we have driven to other resorts to park, usually the guard stops you and asks where you a going. They often want you to have a dining reservation to drive in the resort and park. We have never tried this at a moderate resort but several times we made a reservation at the contemporary for dinner, we ate then walked to the MK for the parade and fireworks, then walked back afterwards to our car instead of waiting in the long lines for buses. I am sure you could do the same thing at POR if you wanted to make a reservation at Boatwright's.

Hello everyone, I am going to follow this thread. I am really considering CBR for may 2015. It will just be me and my 5 year old DS and I think he will really love the pirate ship pool. I am probably going to book a preferred room due to it just being us two. Hope to learn a few things since we have never stayed here.

You can't request a preferred room, it's a bookable category. Well you CAN request one, but the odds are slim you'll get one. To get a refurbished room you best bet would be to make that your only request. Or as reports come in as to people getting refurbished rooms and where they were, you can request that location.

I am sorry I meant to say book (pay for a preferred room) and request a refurbished room....or Jamaica 45 instead of Martinique or Trinidad. I hope I am explaining myself.

We are staying here from the 4th Nov 2015 to 18th Nov 2015 as part of our honeymoon trip to Orlando. This will be the first time we have stayed on property and are super excited.

Thank you all for the amazing and helpful information in this thread as I have learned so much since we started reading it.

:yay:

We have a couple "resort" days planned so we are looking for things to do around the resort other than just swimming. I definitely plan on renting the bikes to ride around the resort - I can't wait to do that! I know they have gotten rid of the docks at the resort, but do they still have paddle boats available?

Can't wait...will check in on Monday for our first stay at CBR! The rest if the family thinks we're staying at POP as usual. So excited about surprising them!!!:dance3:
