I just caught this last night on cable.. a Brit movie about prisoners and how they start a garden on prison grounds and enter into some big contest at one of the palaces.....if you get a chance to see it.. it was terrific.. It starred Helen Mirren and Clive Owen... just thought I would share this..

This is the review on Amazon.com..

Greenfingers is funny, moving, and very well acted. Clive Owen gives a magnetic performance as a prisoner who becomes fascinated by gardening, and Hellen Mirren is great as the overbearing English grand dame of gardening. The jokes are wonderful, and the story of people trying to turn their lives around against difficult odds is quite touching

Oh, this sounds like something right up my alley! :) What cable station was it on? Is it an older film or a new release? I'm going to look for it!

Thanks! :)

I am not sure if it was on HBO signature.. and it is a relatively new film.. but listed with Amazon and pricey..

Here another review for Greenfingers, from The Popkorn Junkies.

~ "Greenfingers" is a heartwarming comedy/drama in the same vein as "Saving Grace" and "Waking Ned Devine" as well as other recent British comedies. The basic plot centers around a group of hardened prisoners who become gardeners as their rehabilitation work. They gradually really get into learning about how to make plants and flowers grow. Once it's found out how good they have become, they are allowed to enter their garden in a major British garden show.

The movie stars Clive Owen who was really good in Croupier and the great Helen Mirren. The acting is very good all around and the story being told is interesting and up-lifting. It has a lot of funny lines and good humor to go along with the sometimes more serious parts of the film. I also have to add that it has some great songs being played by the likes of U2 and Bruce Springsteen.

What I really like about this movie is that it is heartwarming and touching without being over sentimental or corny. It's not an emotional powerful movie or loaded with slapstick humor, but the story and the way it lets you get to know each character makes this a most entertaining movie. Matter of fact, I rate this as one of the better movies I've seen all year.~

Sounds like a must see, Marsha. Thank you very much for the info!! :) :)

OMG DH and I just love this movie....I can watch it over and over again. It is so funny...and sweet...and I cried..ok i'll stop now.

DH and I rented this and watched it last night. We really enjoyed it, and found it to be very heartwarming and fun. Clive Owen is almost as nice to see as all the beautiful flowers! ;)

Can you imagine going to the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show? That would be awesome! :)

This is on my list of rentals for next weekend! I love "feel good" types of movies, and English comedy is the BEST!

We rented this movie this afternoon and just got through watching it. LOVED IT!!!!!

Thanks so much for the recommendation. We plan to lend the movie to my parents tomorrow (not due back until Thursday).

I agree with Snowwark about Clive. He is a tasty looking flower! ;)

Really, a very nice feel-good movie and some beautiful scenery.

Greenfingers... okay, I wrote down the title so I won't forget and will see if they have it either in the library or Blockbuster for rental next weekend. Sounds good.
