If I didn't have heartburn, I'd be drooling. (Note to self...no more onion rings after 9 PM.)
I had jalapeno poppers AGAIN tonight...soooo good, but sooo bad.

Onion rings at 9:00??!!
I could do that 10 years ago-- never again! Well, unless I'm at say... an MK Late EMH. Then I might just be able to swing some Casey's corn dog nugs.TTA passengers- beware.
Glenn: See that didn't take long did it??Anytime you need a game to "get us back on track" just let me know.
Oops!! I promised to behave myself....![]()

I try to avoid onions now.....so sad...![]()
Mmmmmmmm corn dog nuggets. Perfect snack at anytime.

I see the time change is going to be disastrous for chatter with East Coasters. WAH!
Lovely recipe, Magdelena!! Yeah?? I'm wth Cynthia here. A towel?? I tried a pumpkin roll once too, I think 3 Thanksgivings ago, and it stuck all over the dumb towel- even though I had powder sugared it.It came out looking like a 1,000 piece jigsaw. I had a recipe for strudel (without a e) and it says the dough should cover the whole kitchen table when you're done rolling. I don't have a towel that big.
Thanks for the chuckle this AM, Cherie! That was funny! No corned beef here- but we made up for with it bean burritos.![]()
I have mastered the pumpkin roll!
The trick is to use what is really more of a tea towel....very thin, nice cotton that is very flat. Which of course the pumpkin bread will stain! I now have dedicated pumpkin roll towels. I kid you not.
The other trick is parchment paper when baking the pumpkin cake part.
It is a messy project, not nearly as pretty as the picture on the can (until you slice it mind you) but OHHHH is it the best Thanksgiving and xmas morning breakfast ever!
It's become a ritual here. Perfect to nosh on after the pie is in the oven on Thanksgiving with a cup of coffee and a little parade and even better while the kids are opening Santa gifts before the giant brunch.
Last trick is to make two. Or people in my house get very cranky.
If you're nice Liesa, and we end up doing the GWL on the Sat after turkey day...I might even bring one! Or two if Cherie makes the trek.
I once at a whole box of prunes......
do I need to say anything else....
I will definitely give it a try. When I am not sure but I will try.
Questions for you (sorry Glennbo, this is even more OT!)
I have not watched the video vet so apologies in advance. Does the dough really not stick to the towel? Rolling it out on a towel makes me hideously nervous as despite my lovely fake granite/silestone countertops (which should function like the real thing) dough sticks to it and so I rely heavily on wax paper for my pie crusts.
Which I tried on the tart dough and it stuck to the wax paper. But I didn't let that one refrigerate quite long enough so it was my own fault.
Given that this is something that is rising, etc I just can't quite picture how, flour or not, it won't stick to the towel.
The rest really reminds me of making a jelly roll/pumpkin roll just with raw dough instead of cooked so it makes complete sense.
Theoretically couldn't I roll it out on my silpat (silicone baking sheet), flip onto a floured towel once flat (being the paranoid person that I am) and go from there?
I am not a frequent baker so these may be silly questions....I can't wait to try it though, hopefully this weekend!
this is why I only make the corned beef and skip the cabbage
That's a scary lineup you had there! Although oddly enough, logic was my favorite class of all time...it's like algebra in english.
You are outnumbered on this one.

Your fan is in that junk room...

I'll be extra nice- I promise!!!
And maybe we'll double our indulgment, and I'll do a Buche de Noel!!That'll make the transition from Thanksgiving to Christmas rather sweet!
Secondly, on the size. if you want to make the dough as large as the kitchen table just use a table cloth for rolling!
The point is that the thinner the dough is the better your strudel will be. The art is to have very thin layers of dough between the apples. My mother said that the old rule is that it had to be so thin that you could read a paper through it.![]()
wouldnt that affect the southern region pretty bad.I once at a whole box of prunes......

now that sounds yummymmm...bean burritos...

I'm so sorry that I can't be on here when all of my West Coast and Blankistani friends are on here posting their brains out. You guys were busy last night!
I don't mind at all. It'll give me a chance to exercise my smilies.
I don't even know what to say anymore. Maybe just![]()
Glenn, I loved your smiley comments!!
And even if this continues the topic, just a few words on the kitchen towel thing:
First - I think this is where the video will come in very handy, watch it! I think my mother used to roll it out on her wooden "baking board" and then transfer it on to the ktichen towel for rolling. I googled pumpkin roll and I think this is similar to what the British call a jam roll, made with sponge cake? If so, the strudel is much easier to roll!!

Get thee to Arbys my friend! Oh, and I misspelled it so kill the h.I'm not familiar with Broncho Berry Sauce.
Yes, pumpkin rolls is basically a jelly (jam) roll but with pumpkin flavored cake and cream cheese/powdered sugar/vanilla filling instead of the jam. Kind of funny. I bought a jelly roll pan specifically to be able to make pumpkin roll (had one but needed 2 for the pumpkin roll vultures) but I've never actually made a real jelly/jam roll. Or a trifle for that matter but I digress.
Total PITA to roll but worth it. Wish I had a slice right now! Hmmn....I do have the ingredients handy....
Ok thin is the goal and it's ok to roll first, then towel. I will absolutely watch the video! I'd be paranoid of it tearing if it's thin enough to read a paper .through but that's fascinating!

Table cloth... Gread idea!!
Yes, that's what I read too. If want it to be "right" you have to be able to read through it.
And Glenn, Jordan started it with prune talk and Cherie? continued with corned beef.
Now, for something sentimental? I really, really love prunes! Especially in pluma mousse. Mike's grandma who lived in Canada used to make that a lot when we visited.![]()

i just got some diced onion onion rings, i like those better, when you bite into them you dont pull out the whole onion ring. from the batter.

Thanks for providing a forum that allows for flour, towel talk, rolling, beans and onion rings at 9pm with some kind of berry sauce. All whilst you sleep.

mmmmm....pumpkin rolls!
They are a family tradition here. My mom started making them about 20 years ago and now we have them every thanksgiving and christmas. I have several neighbours who ask me when pumkin roll time will come.
great, now I need to make one.
oh, jordy.....an entire box of prunes?
Sounds wonderful, I think I need to make that at some point next autumn!
We do a variation of a jelly roll/strawberry short cake: fill the sponge with whipped cream and sliced strawberries...
And don't worry about the paper reading, that isn't even possible with the store bought strudel dough (you can buy it ready made here, all rolled out and folded up, so you only unfold it and then fill it).
Phew! Took me a while to find the results of the game post! Y'all have been chatty!!
I'll take tied for 2nd.![]()
