The Moist Exhausting Free Trip Ever - Link to Part II Thread pg. 244

First comments on Sci-Fi...

The food is so-so, no matter which way you look at it. Nothing really stood out as "fabulous" when we ate there, just sort of Sheri's quality stuff. Edible, but not stellar.

BUT, the atmosphere is as GREAT as it gets. So fun!! My parents LOVED the ad clips for popcorn and cokes and all that, and said it brought back some super memories for them of dates in the 50's. I mean, it's great for all ages, my little ones thought the trailers were a hoot, and I just really enjoyed watching them enjoy themselves.

FP running is for the strong and brave, and for those who know where they're going. Never send a newbie. Unless they're going back and HAVE to learn the system- like Lauren. Glad she's a fast learner! It's brutal out there. But she's got a pro-teacher.

The room pictures all use an ISO setting of 800. I think I set that, and then put the camera on "Program" (automatic).

The pictures of the room all have an aperture setting of F3.5, and the shutter speed ranges from .3 seconds to .8 seconds. (The lens was open a pretty long time, as it's easy to get blur at anything longer than 1/60.)

For the one of the girls, the shutter was open a whole second. I can hardly believe that one myself. Forget about me holding the camera still, I'm surprised they held still!

The shots of the screen were around .25 to .4 seconds of shutter speed.

Oh, the food pics used flash and were 1/60 shutter speed, F3.5 to 4, and ISO 400.
You sure you aren't an engineer??? Talk about sapping the joy right out of enjoying your photography! :rolleyes1 (Just yankin' your chain bud :) )
I know it's hard to imagine, but try. If you still can't do it, go work with a paving crew for a few hours.
I'll pass. Not sure a paving crew gets the experience that a summer trip to Disney can provide! I'll just stick with that one in the future. :lmao:
I was kind of surprised that she made that mistake.
Just in case, I wasn't talking about her making the mistake, I was referring to it being a mistake you never make twice. I'm sure she grasped that one quickly and it is a value added scenario that will serve her for many years to come! :thumbsup2
Okay, okay. You and I both know it's possible to be "stalked" at WDW!
:rotfl2: Yeah, but certain in the party seem to enjoy it. Explaining to the non-DisOriented is the hard part at times. ;)
Wait a minute -- more for them means less for me! I'm not sure I like that.
Knowledge is a valuable asset in today's world! It can pay handsomely! (or so I've heard)
We watched "The Blind Side" a couple of weeks ago and I had to fast-forward through the part at the very beginning where they show Joe Theismann getting his leg broken by Lawrence Taylor. I saw it enough times back when it actually happened -- I didn't need to see it in a movie too.
Yeah, I couldn't do that part either. That is one wreck where "just look away" was the wise thing, and I actually did it! :yay:

I think I may have to put Sci Fi back into the running for Feb. I think my hubby would get a kick out of the atmosphere there!
Do I need to make sure he orders a burger there?

The movie trailers are more than cheesy...my kids are just weird!! :confused3

Too funny!

We were there later that afternoon. We had an ADR, but asked to be seated earlier if possible (due to the kids being in Jedi Training just over an hour after our scheduled seating time). Yeah, that's easy..."Could you please seat our group of 16 earlier than our scheduled ADR? We've had a change in our schedule..." We were pretty much seated on time, though, which was better than nothing, and we were in two cars next to each other.

Sounds good. I'm sure it must have been tough for them trying to accommodate such a large group.

Completely agree.

She did all right!

see you in 6.

Yep, see you in 6. Thanks for stopping in on your way out. We wish you the best Jordan!

I"m sure we'll "talk" in less than that! We know you're address and we can write. ;)

Exactly.

You sure you aren't an engineer??? Talk about sapping the joy right out of enjoying your photography! :rolleyes1 (Just yankin' your chain bud :) )

No, but I could've been! Don't you look at pictures and wonder what the apterture, ISO, and shutter speed were set at?

I'll pass. Not sure a paving crew gets the experience that a summer trip to Disney can provide! I'll just stick with that one in the future. :lmao:

Me too.

Oh yeah, I think it sunk in.

:rotfl2: Yeah, but certain in the party seem to enjoy it. Explaining to the non-DisOriented is the hard part at times. ;)

Yes. It can make for some strange "explanations" to the un-Dis'd.

Yeah, I couldn't do that part either. That is one wreck where "just look away" was the wise thing, and I actually did it! :yay:

I honestly fast-forwarded a few seconds. :scared1:

I think I may have to put Sci Fi back into the running for Feb. I think my hubby would get a kick out of the atmosphere there!
Do I need to make sure he orders a burger there?

:faint: I hope you're funnin' me with that burger comment! :rotfl:

Yes, put it back into the running.

Your taste buds are happy that you're becoming more adventuresome.

That's a fact (jack). (I just couldn't type "that's a fact" without adding "jack". It got me like Roger Rabbit and the ol' "shave and a haircut" thing...."Two bits!")

they are happy, iam branching out more on things to eat, but there are still some items i wont touch, like mushrooms.
:snooty:

i think that all 4 of those words have to by written typed or said together it just does not sound right if you dont do it that way.

You wouldn't like living where I do -- it's the mushroom capital of the world.

I agree!

Mmmm.. mushrooms! Dan, you're missing out on a good thing. However, I will keep the shrooms, if you keep the bananas. ;)

Morning Glenn. I've stayed up way too late, and tomorrow's a busy day.

that dip judy got looked really good,

When we were there in June we tried Sci Fi again. I wasn't in the mood for a burger so I had the dip too - but the one I ordered came with a chili dip too. I couldn't eat all of both of them (it was supposed to be an appetizer to share) but one by itself probably wouldn't have been satisfying. I think DH got a steak salad. He enjoyed it.

It's kind of a smelly industry, so I wouldn't mind if the capitol were somewhere else. The only benefit is that I can get them pretty cheap and very fresh.

G'night Liesa!

:welcome: to the TR mom3sonstt! Thanks for joining in.

I hadn't noticed that on the menu, but I see it on the allears.net website, so I must have missed it. But then again, I wasn't really looking at the appetizers.

Thanks for the info, Glenn. I always forget about changing the ISO setting. You must have a pretty steady hand - not much blur!:thumbsup2

Okay, here are my sightings: In the first post, Judy appears in photos 2, 7, 8 and 10. In the second post, photo 5. How did I do?

Okay, I guess it's time to give you the results on your guesses. These are all correct....however, her braceleted wrist is also visible in this picture:

IMG_2634.jpg

A stickler (which I thought you were, for sure) would want us to count that. Fortunately for you, no one else got that one (or any others for that matter) either.

So, all the points for this round go to Marvali!

Day 2 - Part 4

Before I begin, I should note that I changed the chapter title from what I listed as “up next” in the last chapter in order to stick with the Star Wars theme. I think you’ll soon agree that it fits. Now, on with the show.

As I filled out the credit card slip to pay for our meal at Sci-Fi Dine-in, our server, Missy, asked Judy if she wanted another vanilla coke. She said “no”, but I quickly chimed-in and said, “oh, I think she would like some more”. When Missy brought it to us, er I mean Judy, it was in a to-go cup! Thank you Missy!

We left Sci-Fi and headed to Echo Lake to get an autograph of James Arnold Taylor, who is the voice of Obi Wan Kenobi in the “Star Wars, The Clone Wars” cartoon series. I watch that show with James sometimes, and I have to say this guy really does sound like Ewan McGregor. Since it didn’t take us very long to get Peter Mayhew’s autograph, the ladies said they’d wait for us in the shade.

On the way over, I saw Darth Goofy and Leia Minnie signing autographs and took a quick picture. Minnie looks like she's going to box that kid.

IMG_2646.jpg

James and I walked up to the rope “pens” where they corral the autograph seekers until they send them, in an orderly fashion, to the tent where the celebrity is. We turned in our fastpass and were directed to enter one of the pens. We were in the pen to the right, and it was empty except for us. The pen to the left had several people in it and we immediately noticed that it was from that pen that they occasionally released people to walk down the path to the tent where James Arnold Taylor was. After a minute of assessing the situation, I thought, “Hmmm…why the second-class treatment?” James was a little blunter and verbally exclaimed, “What’s the deal?!”

Here you can see the rope that separates our pen from the “preferred” pen. (And you can also see someone who’s a little bit more of a Star Wars fan that I am. It was a really hot day to be wearing your Darth Vader costume! Actually, I pretended like I was taking James’ picture, but I wanted to make sure I got a good shot of “Darth”.)

IMG_2654.jpg

So, I went up to the cast member directing traffic to the people pens and asked why we were in the pen that appeared to have no hope of ever actually getting to the celebrity. She directed me to look at my fastpass ticket. It was a “Stand By Autograph” fastpass, not a full-fledged fastpass, whatever they might look like.

See that ugly black strip of text across the top?

IMG_2655.jpg

I now realized that that’s what the cast members at the front of the park were giving out by the time we arrived that morning. When we had gotten Peter Mayhew’s autograph earlier in the day, we had just timed it right, by luck. Plus, with the limited amount of interaction with him, his line moved quickly.

So, that’s when a fastpass isn’t a fastpass. When it’s a “Stand By Autograph” fastpass. We’d be allowed to go when the other people pen was empty…if the celebrity was still there. And people kept coming. It’d get down to 4 or 5 people, and then 3 more would show up. Darth Superfan went, but we stood.

The ladies were close enough that I was able to get their attention and tell them what was going on. They said they were going to go into some shops to look around and get cooled off. James and I decided to wait it out a little longer and see if it looked like we’d get to go, but we planned to see the Indiana Jones show at 2 o’clock so we couldn’t wait around too long. Plus it was waaay hot.

The other problem was the line was moving really slowly. They would only send a couple of people every few minutes it seemed.

In this picture of the “penthouse” pen you can see the guy in the red shirt wondering what’s taking so long. There were nearly a dozen people over there. It wasn’t looking good for us.

IMG_2657.jpg

We waited 20 minutes before giving up. The whole time we waited I think only one other person ever came into our pen, and he left after a minute or two. James started to cry because he’s a big fan of the cartoon series that this guy works on, but he could see that we weren’t going to get a turn. I told him we’d at least walk over and take a picture of him.

Here he is.

IMG_2658.jpg

Now I could see why it was taking so long. He took forever, talking to each person, yucking it up. I mean, that’s nice, but there’s something to be said for Peter Mayhew’s approach!

Laugh it up, fuzzball! (To borrow a line from the “original” Star Wars, episode 4.) Don't worry that small children are in tears. (Don't worry, James got over it pretty quickly.)

IMG_2659.jpg

We left and went to find the ladies. They were in a clothing shop on Hollywood Boulevard, right near Echo Lake and we found them pretty quickly. (I think the store was Keystone Clothiers?) Our fastpass window had opened again, so while the others shopped and cooled off, I dashed up Sunset Boulevard to get some Tower of Terror fastpasses.

IMG_2660.jpg

Yes, at this point I had 3 sets of fastpasses in my pocket. TSM, RnRC, and ToT. Muhahahaha!

I went back and found my family again and we walked out onto the street. James had a conversation with this guy in this car. To this day I have no idea what they talked about!

IMG_2661.jpg

They both look fairly amused by whatever transpired between them.

IMG_2662.jpg

Then I saw a Photopass person, so gathered up the family for our first Photopass pictures of the trip. First, a couple with my camera.

IMG_2663.jpg

IMG_2664.jpg

Then a few from the Photopass person’s camera.

We decided to start heading over to the Indiana Jones show, so we walked around the corner where James had been talking to that guy in the white antique car, towards Echo Lake. As we rounded the corner we saw a couple of “Streetmosphere” people. They asked us if we wanted some free wine samples.

IMG_2665.jpg

Then the lady, who looked like Liza Minelli’s better-looking younger sister (hey, you never know, she might read this), said in a very whiny voice, “Why are the lines so long?” And the chef guy said, “Why is it so hot?” Free wine (whine) samples, get it?

Then she saw me taking a picture and struck a pose.

IMG_2666.jpg

She noticed James and said, “I’m on vacation, why do I have to comb my hair?”

IMG_2667.jpg

They really hammed it up, and loved it when I took their picture, as you can see.

IMG_2668.jpg

She said, “Are all 3 of these yours?”, pointing to the kids. “Did you get married at 12?” (Hey, I like her!!)

IMG_2669.jpg

IMG_2670.jpg

They intereacted with Judy and the kids some more, we had them all to ourselves for a little while. While they talked, I remembered that since I just gotten a Photopass card I should take a picture of the back of it so that I had the number in case I lost it. (You can kind of see the Streetmosphere people in the background.)

IMG_2671.jpg

She said to Judy, “Why he is taking a picture of that card?” And Judy explained that it was so I’d have the number if I lost the card – then I could still retrieve my pictures. Then Liza’s beautiful, younger sister exclaimed, “Oh, he’s smart and he’s handsome!!” Here, you can see how smitten she obviously is with me. And the chef guy was just awestruck.

IMG_2672.jpg

Here’s a picture of my family talking with them, and a few other people starting to come over to see what was going on.

IMG_2673.jpg

We needed to leave in order to get a decent seat for Indiana Jones, plus other park guests were starting to gather around, so we had to bid them farewell. I think the Streetmosphere people had a lot of fun talking with us and hated to see us go.

Up next: We meet again, Doctor Jones

Awesome update. How did you end up withy so many fast passes and not using them right away? The photopass pics are great. And I love the Streetmosphere people -- they are always a hoot.

Coming out of Lurkdom to say hey and great job...all your tr's are great. keep em coming, I need something to do while at work.

I think I may have to put Sci Fi back into the running for Feb. I think my hubby would get a kick out of the atmosphere there!
Do I need to make sure he orders a burger there?

Yup Burghers Good !! So are the oreo cookie milkshakes !!!!!!!

You wouldn't like living where I do -- it's the mushroom capital of the world.

I would love it !!The smell would be nothing I grew up in a town that had a sugarbeet factory that on a warm day and the wind in the wrong direction was Pewey !!!:lmao:Then there was a Brewery in town and let me tell you HOPS do not smell good !!!:lmao:ANNNNNDD just outside the town was a Bacon Factory that STUNK !!!!We also had a mushroom farm close by but I think it's smell was lost with the others :lmao::lmao:

Speaking of the heat....I found one of THE BEST places to cool off at DHS. The entrance/exit door of the gift shop at Star Tours. I had just ran to get fastpasses and had a huge headache due to the heat and then DH and DS wanted to ride ST. I was thinking that I may get motion sickness because of the way I already felt. I decided to soak up some A/C in the giftshop and just wait for them. Low and behold, I walked through that doorway and the A/C blows straight down on your head! I stood there (toward the side) the entire time until my headache was gone and my body temp was back to normal! A man saw me and looked at me weird until he passed under it and suddenly thought I was a genius! He even told me so. :rotfl2: I commented back by saying "best ride in the park, isn't it??" He laughed and then we stood there for the next 20-30 minutes laughing at everyone else passing by drenched in sweat. :thumbsup2

I will tuck that gem away for a really hot day! :thumbsup2

I remember that hot dog clip from Grease during the drive-in scene.

I remember that too!!!!
