The Moist Exhausting Free Trip Ever - Link to Part II Thread pg. 244

Excellent update. Love your pics inside Sci-Fi. They could totally be the promo pics Disney uses on their website!

I must say, I was not actually ever intrigued to eat there. I always thought the food choices were just so-so to be using a TS credit (I know, insert :furious: here). However, I think your post may have made a convert out of me. I may need to try it on our next trip (which sadly isn't for a looooooong time:sad2:).

And finally, monsieur, a wafer-thin mint..............

That's one Monty Python movie that I've never seen from start to finish. My friends all said that it's not that good, don't waste your time, then they'd quote stuff constantly. :confused3

Meaning of Life is my least favourite Python movie. Mostly due to the "Live Organ Transplants" and the entire restaurant scene with an obscenely overweight Terry Jones. I don't see the humor in excessive blood and/or puking. Not for me. That being said, I do have a few favourite parts from that movie:

Every Sp**m is Sacred - so catchy!
"Middle Age"
When Eric Idle as the french waiter takes us on a long tour through the streets to the house where he grew up
"The salmon mousse!"
"It's Christmas in Heaven every day"

Wow there's quite a bit more that I like than dislike in that movie. For you Python fans who haven't seen it, what are you waiting for?!

Glen, great update. I absolutely love that picture of James looking back at the camera with his food. Adorable! I just want to pinch those cheeks :goodvibes Nice review of Sci-Fi. That bean cucumber salad you got looks rather unappetizing. Note to self: Don't order from the healthy choice menu at Sci-fi

Wow, you got some fantastic inside pictures of SciFi!! I was looking for something like that for ages and never saw non-blurry pictures which gave a feeling of the room! Well done! :thumbsup2

Thank you! It was a challenge to keep them from blurring. I think I leaned up against the wall to try to keep the camera still for the ones from the side of the room.

The monster actually lives in Epcot - there was a sighting last December as you can see here!

That is hilarious! Thanks for sharing that. That's pretty much what the gila monster movie trailer looked like.

I actually preferred these inbetween news programms and the clips about the future to the trailers... :rolleyes1

They were good. It's always funny to see what they thought the future would look like fifty years ago. James was disappointed that they showed all these movie trailers and never actually showed the movies.

We had that too and regretted getting the healthy option. Who would come up with a dish like that. It was more or less without any taste.... :headache:

It was really...not good. And that's coming from me, who'll eat just about anything. Yes, I wondered what chef would put that on the menu. Are they actually trying the stuff they're serving.

Love the pics of Sci Fi. We went last year after a ten year absence and absolutely loved it! I had the burger which was really, really good. If you like reuben sandwiches, this is what Mark had and said it was as good as the one at The Plaza. And the onion rings? Oh my, I could make a meal of those (although I'd need several orders).

Yes, I like reubens. Dang, looks like I could've either gone with the Angus burger or a reuben and somehow picked door number 3. Now I'll know for next time. Yeah, I love those onion rings. We easily could've downed a few plates of those.

And I can understand the mistake with the Fast Pass. Once would be more than enough on that.

Yep, it's an easy mistake. Now she's not a rookie anymore.

Haha! No, it wasn't us. I suppose it could have been if it was a guy...DH or my BIL would have hounded them until they got what they wanted!!! :rotfl:

That's a relief! Both that it wasn't you guys I was "DISing" and that I wasn't waiting for a Jawa autograph behind your DH or BIL!

LOVE your pictures of Sci Fi!!! I didn't get any that were nearly that good. Of course, I was trying to placate my two older children who were apparently terrified by the cheesy 50's movie trailers. :confused3 The goofy kids were scared of those, but have seen and are good with all 6 Star Wars films, including the one where Anakin's legs burn off (I didn't want to let them see that one, but DH was insistant they see them all in order, and to his credit he sat and talked through what was going on with them)!! What the heck?? I was very glad to be in the dark and the air conditioning, though, and I love the car booths. I think I need to try those onion rings, too....yum!

I remember reading that on your thread, that your kids were upset by the movie trailers. That's kind of surprising...they're so over the top cheesy.

Yes, Judy wasn't sure she wanted to let James see that Star Wars episode either. When he did she was all worried that he'd have nightmares or something. Nope. No problem whatsoever.

So, you were there later in the afternoon right? I forget, did you have an ADR or just wait for an opening?

Your pics of the Sci-Fi really have me thinking that I need to re-consider this dining location.....do you know if that have any "healthy" options on the menu?

First, I believe this is your first post on my thread Dug (Donna), so :welcome: Thanks for joining in. I might know a thing or two about Wilmington, DE. ;)

I wasn't really looking for a healthy option when I was there (although I did think my smoked turkey on multigrain bread wasn't a bad choice), but I just looked on allears.net and a vegetarian option is "Seared Marinated Tofu". Mmmmm. I don't think I'd go for that, but maybe it's what you're looking for?

Great pics of Sci-Fi! I don't recall some of those from our September 2008 meal there, they must occasionally change the movie clips....good thing!

Thank you!

Yes, we saw the whole reel of stuff about 3 times while we were there, so I'd definitely look forward to a little change-up if/when we go again.

I agree with what your family found at Sci-Fi - gotta go with a burger there. Most everything else seems to get a "meh" review most of the time. I *think* I have read good things about their reuben as well. But the shakes...YUMMY! The onion rings look delicious!

Yes, careful choices need to be made here. I thought that my sandwich was pretty close to a club sandwich, which is always my stand-by lunch order if nothin else grabs me, and it's never failed me. But this did not turn out to be a club sandwich. :sad2:

I agree about Sci Fi Food !! The burghers are GREAT and the oreo cookie milkshake is to die for !!!!! I have a new fav desseert there too the cheesecake !!I ordered it last year and had to fight of the kids trying to eat it !!!:rotfl2:The steak there is pretty good at dinner time too !!

I wish I had gotten a burger Rosie! With those shakes, we were too full for dessert. I may have to try the cheesecake sometime.

Excellent update. Love your pics inside Sci-Fi. They could totally be the promo pics Disney uses on their website!

Oh wow, thank you!

Well, I'm learning...stick with a burger, or maybe a reuben if you're not in a burger mood. And while the shakes are good, I'd go with a vanilla coke for the free refills. :drinking1

This is exactly how my friends would talk about the movie 20+ years ago! "It's not that good." "Don't waste your time." Then, rattle off about half a dozen things they liked! Maybe some day.

Glen, great update. I absolutely love that picture of James looking back at the camera with his food. Adorable! I just want to pinch those cheeks :goodvibes

Thanks. Maybe I'll pinch him for you. You gave me a good excuse.

Nice review of Sci-Fi. That bean cucumber salad you got looks rather unappetizing. Note to self: Don't order from the healthy choice menu at Sci-fi

It was :crazy2:

Great pictures! It can be hard to get good pictures in low lighting like that. We have an ADR at Sci-Fi next month and I'm excited to try it. Thanks for the update!

We usually haven't even considered sci-fi cafe. Looking at the inside, it looks like we might need to try it. We usually go to prime time and enjoy it. Thanks for the insight in sfc. I have never really even seen inside it from any post of others on the dis.

:lmao: When the crop dusters are buzzing our house I'll think of your daughter getting FPs. I haven't tried the Sci-Fi but it's starting to pique my interest, I love a good burger.

It's too bad Lauren had to make a second trip. I know what it's like making that hike going from Pizza Planet to RnRC and back. It's a workout on a 90+ degree day. :faint:

When I checked-in I asked if we could have a “car” booth and was told that with an ADR you are guaranteed one. That was good news, I hadn’t known that.

I didn't know you were guaranteed a car as well! I really liked the lighting at the tables so you can"kinda" see what you were doing with the food. The ambiance really is nice in there.

While we waited to be seated, I was surprised by the number of people that came in without an ADR, asking if they could be seated. Let’s turn to C-3PO for his take on this…

“Sir, the possibility of successfully being seated at Sci-Fi Dine-In during lunch hour on a Star Wars Weekend is approximately 3,720 to 1!”

Apparently these patrons responded with, “Never tell me the odds.”

Maybe the Force was with them?

LUKE: Oh, no. We'll never get in now.
<Yoda stamps his foot in irritation.>
YODA: So certain are you. Always with you it cannot be done. Hear you
nothing that I say?
<Luke looks uncertainly at the line.>
LUKE: Master, getting a reservation at Chili's is one thing. This is totally
different.
YODA: No! No different! Only different in your mind. You must unlearn
what you have learned.
LUKE: (focusing, quietly) All right, I'll give it a try.
YODA: No! Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.

We really enjoyed our lunch here, although next time I need to order a burger.

I didn't have the burger either. The Shrimp Pasta was pretty good and was loaded with shrimp! I stuck with the shakes as well.

The funny thing about all the movies shown on the screen is I never have seen them unedited. In college I was introduced to them by a show named Mystery Science Theater 3000. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mystery_Science_Theater_3000

Up next: When is a Fastpass not a Fastpass?

When it's ajar? :confused3 I can't figure out the Star Wars reference if there is one.

Maybe Old Ben can help out?

Thank you! Hopefully now you have an idea of what to order.

I like 50's Prime Time too. This definitely has a 50's vibe to it also, since it's set in a drive-in movie theater, and shows all those clips from the 50's era.

:lmao: When the crop dusters are buzzing our house I'll think of your daughter getting FPs. I haven't tried the Sci-Fi but it's starting to pique my interest, I love a good burger.

I was just trying to work a Star Wars line in there somehow, and since it wasn't as easy as she thought (or I made it look?), that seemed to be a good one.

My wife especially, loved Sci-Fi, so we'll be going back. Gotta keep her happy you know.

It's too bad Lauren had to make a second trip. I know what it's like making that hike going from Pizza Planet to RnRC and back. It's a workout on a 90+ degree day. :faint:

It's a workout, in the sun, on a hot day. She was ready to get into the air conditioning!

I didn't know you were guaranteed a car as well! I really liked the lighting at the tables so you can"kinda" see what you were doing with the food. The ambiance really is nice in there.

Yeah, I had never read that anywhere, so was surprised. Yes, the way they have it lit inside the car, you don't really have too much trouble seeing what you're eating.

Maybe the Force was with them?

LUKE: Oh, no. We'll never get in now.
<Yoda stamps his foot in irritation.>
YODA: So certain are you. Always with you it cannot be done. Hear you

I love how you worked "getting a reservation at Chili's is one thing" in there!
:rotfl2:

I didn't have the burger either. The Shrimp Pasta was pretty good and was loaded with shrimp! I stuck with the shakes as well.

Hmmm, so shrimp pasta is a good choice too, huh?

The funny thing about all the movies shown on the screen is I never have seen them unedited. In college I was introduced to them by a show named Mystery Science Theater 3000. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mystery_Science_Theater_3000

I've heard of that show, but never seen it. I think it came out just after my college days.

When it's ajar? :confused3 I can't figure out the Star Wars reference if there is one.

Yeah sorry, there's no Star Wars reference there. I don't know if I'll be able to come up with one that fits the situation I'll describe in the next chapter.

Maybe Old Ben can help out?
fastpassben.jpg

That is hilarious!!! :lmao:

Did you create that? I love it!

Great update. I love the Sci-Fi's atmosphere, but both times I've dined there the food has been average. I would still go back though for the awesome theme and a decent burger! I also love that they have Vanilla Coke!

Yummy lunch. I love the pictures from the back of the room. Very nice! I remember that flipping hotdog from my drive-in days. (yes, I am that old). That takes me right back.

Morning Glen !!Tracy and I are steamimg ahead with our DC plans !!We picked a hotel that doesn't tolerate OBNOXIOUS Kids:rotfl2:Oh boy I hope they tolerate POLE Dancing !!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Great Sci Fi pics! Shots like that really make me wish for a better indoor camera. It looks like you guys had a blast despite some meh food. I recall their onion rings as being rather spectacular. It does seem like a lunch spot to me though, no matter what so wehn we do the DDP I can't seem to justify using up a TS on it. The burger looked good!

That's one Monty Python movie that I've never seen from start to finish. My friends all said that it's not that good, don't waste your time, then they'd quote stuff constantly. :confused3

It has some moments but that scene is pretty disgusting. As it should be.

For some reason, reading this thread this morning has "Always Look At The Bright Side of Life" song from Life of Brian stuck in my head!

Knights that say PEEP it is! Then there could be a Knights that PEEP at Night Party.... Wait, that wouldn't work. :lmao::lmao:

That could get you a visit from the real police, not the fake Disney security types!

:rotfl2:

"But Officer, we are Knights that PEEP at night! What's the problem?"

WOW!! You got some great pictures of Sci Fi Dine in. My DH and I dined there on our honeymoon and we both really enjoyed the food and experience. I have heard mixed reviews of the place, but if you stick with the basic burger and fries I think it's :thumbsup2:thumbsup2.

May I have permission to copy and save some of your restaurant pictures. I showed them to my son, and he said yes we can eat there, but I'm making him a picture schedule for our trip (he has mild autism) and I think the big shot with all the cars would be a great picture to prepare him for when we enter the restaurant.

I feel so bad for your daughter and the fastpass confusion. I imagine on a hot day that would really not be fun to have to walk across the park twice.

I'm very curious as to when a fastpass isn't a fastpass.... Can't wait to see what that is all about.popcorn::

"Average" is a good description of what I had. What kills me is that I had done my homework here on the DIS :surfweb: and when the time came, I strayed from the wisdom I learned here. :headache:

Yummy lunch. I love the pictures from the back of the room. Very nice! I remember that flipping hotdog from my drive-in days. (yes, I am that old). That takes me right back.

Thank you! (If I didn't know that that hot dog actually flips, I'd think you were swearing!) My wife remembered watching some of those movies on Sunday afternoon creature features. (But me, I'm just too young. ;))

Morning Glen !!Tracy and I are steamimg ahead with our DC plans !!We picked a hotel that doesn't tolerate OBNOXIOUS Kids:rotfl2:Oh boy I hope they tolerate POLE Dancing !!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Well, I'm sure if you behave yourselves at check-in you'll be all right.

Glad to hear your plans are coming along!

Yes, it seems like a lunch-only place to me too.

For some reason, reading this thread this morning has "Always Look At The Bright Side of Life" song from Life of Brian stuck in my head!

Huh, I don't think we had any quotes from that one yet. How about:

[a line of prisoners files past a jailer]
Coordinator: Crucifixion?
Prisoner: Yes.
Coordinator: Good. Out of the door, line on the left, one cross each.
[Next prisoner]
Coordinator: Crucifixion?
Mr. Cheeky: Er, no, freedom actually.
Coordinator: What?
Mr. Cheeky: Yeah, they said I hadn't done anything and I could go and live on an island somewhere.
Coordinator: Oh I say, that's very nice. Well, off you go then.
Mr. Cheeky: No, I'm just pulling your leg, it's crucifixion really.
Coordinator: [laughing] Oh yes, very good. Well...
Mr. Cheeky: Yes I know, out of the door, one cross each, line on the left.

That could get you a visit from the real police, not the fake Disney security types!

:rotfl2:

"But Officer, we are Knights that PEEP at night! What's the problem?"

Yes, exactly!

WOW!! You got some great pictures of Sci Fi Dine in. My DH and I dined there on our honeymoon and we both really enjoyed the food and experience. I have heard mixed reviews of the place, but if you stick with the basic burger and fries I think it's :thumbsup2:thumbsup2.

Thanks! Yes, that's my advice...stick with a burger and you'll be good.

May I have permission to copy and save some of your restaurant pictures. I showed them to my son, and he said yes we can eat there, but I'm making him a picture schedule for our trip (he has mild autism) and I think the big shot with all the cars would be a great picture to prepare him for when we enter the restaurant.

Absolutely! I'm honored that you like them enough to want to use them.

I feel so bad for your daughter and the fastpass confusion. I imagine on a hot day that would really not be fun to have to walk across the park twice.

No, not fun at all. It was good that we had lunch scheduled right then.

I'm very curious as to when a fastpass isn't a fastpass.... Can't wait to see what that is all about.popcorn::

Good! My teaser is doing its job!

Trying to get caught back up on everyone's TRs after my "vacation" days since Wednesday!

aw man, I didn't inspire a picture?
:rotfl2:
You are in good company! I did not inspire a picture either!!

:lmao:
I guess I should feel honored! I guess I not only "inspired" a picture in a glennbo TR, but I also got to be one of the (minor) stars also! :thumbsup2
Oh, the Ewoks aren't evil unless you feed them after midnight. Wait, that was a different movie.
I thought that was pour water on them??? :confused3
Right -- I won't kick her out. I don't know about the nice guy part.
I do, but I'm not saying which way it is... :rotfl:
You should, but I'll warn you...it's not for everybody. My wife hates it. I think it's because you have to "work" a little to understand them through their accent. Plus, it's an absolutely different, zany kind of humor than we're used to.
I totally agree. It takes a little getting used to.
I knew I liked Judy. Sorry, and I'm sure I will lose major points around here (okay, like I have "major" points to start with, so I guess my rep won't really be hurt at all) but I have never been a fan of Monty Python flicks. I saw Holy Grail, Now for Something Completely Different, and Life of Brian during my college days, but I never saw much humor in any of them. I got it, and I understood the accent, but I guess I just don't "appreciate" English "humor." (sorry EnglishRose) I thought some of it was cute, but nothing great. DSs were watching some of Holy Grail on TV yesterday and I didn't find it any funnier now than I did then, but DSs were enjoying it.
:rotfl2:

One of my favorite lines from comedian Emo Phillips is, "You've got to get pretty early in the morning.....to catch me peeking through your bedroom window."
Not so sure you can be "pretty" early in the morning, so I won't comment about getting "UP" early in the morning.;)

Okay, so has sleepingbooty had adequate time to play the game, or can the rest of us try and claim the Judy-do sighting points yet? Enjoyed the TR update and Sci-Fi looks like fun, but I doubt I will be able to get DSs to switch over from 50's Prime Time. That is one of their favorites.

That is hilarious!!! :lmao:

Did you create that? I love it!

Yeah I whipped that one up in about 10 minutes. I've used that image of Ben in a lot of jokes over the years.

Here is a more complex image I had made with over 40 layers to complete it.

Stuck on Dagobah?

Warning: A lot of YTMND is not safe for work so browse at your own risk.

Wow, that is terrible that Lauren had to go all the way back for the fastpasses again. I think I should read mine in case that happens to me.

We went to Sci-fi last year and loved the atmosphere but I had the ribs and didn't care for them. Every one else liked the burgers and shakes. The onion rings were fabulous.

Love the pics that you got in there.

Trying to get caught back up on everyone's TRs after my "vacation" days since Wednesday!

Yes, I've seen you making the rounds!

I guess I should feel honored! I guess I not only "inspired" a picture in a glennbo TR, but I also got to be one of the (minor) stars also! :thumbsup2
I thought that was pour water on them??? :confused3
I do, but I'm not saying which way it is... :rotfl:

True. You appeared in last year's TR.

I knew I liked Judy. Sorry, and I'm sure I will lose major points around here (okay, like I have "major" points to start with, so I guess my rep won't really be hurt at all) but I have never been a fan of Monty Python flicks. Well, all I can say is...it's not for everybody, I realize.

Go ahead, submit your Judy-do sightings. This could be an interesting round.

:worship: That is amazing stuff!

Wow, that is terrible that Lauren had to go all the way back for the fastpasses again. I think I should read mine in case that happens to me.

We (and she) knew exactly what time we could get another set, but she forgot about it when she got to the machines. And she made the mistake of not looking at what got spit out until after she came all the way back across the park. It's like taking a test -- Check Your Work!

We went to Sci-fi last year and loved the atmosphere but I had the ribs and didn't care for them. Every one else liked the burgers and shakes. The onion rings were fabulous.

Love the pics that you got in there.

Hmm, the ribs are out too huh? Okay, burger, reuben, and pasta & shrimp are possibilities, and that's it.

Thanks!

Hi Glenn! I am popping in to say hello. Sorry I have not been around to read your updates. Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do :)
