The Moist Exhausting Free Trip Ever - Link to Part II Thread pg. 244

Hi Glenn! I am popping in to say hello. Sorry I have not been around to read your updates. Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do :)

Hi Lynn! I saw on your thread that you've been busy with school. I hope all went well. I think there have probably been a couple of chapters added since you last posted, but no problem, take your time!

Go ahead, submit your Judy-do sightings. This could be an interesting round.
Okay, here are my sightings: In the first post, Judy appears in photos 2, 7, 8 and 10. In the second post, photo 5. How did I do?
Hmm, the ribs are out too huh? Okay, burger, reuben, and pasta & shrimp are possibilities, and that's it.
Well, when I made the comment about probably not being able to make the switch from 50's PT to try Sci-Fi, I didn't want to mention all the reports I had seen about the food, but since you mentioned it..... It sounds like you weren't overly impressed either, and a few others on here agree, so I guess unless I REALLY want a burger (which seldom happens at WDW) then we will stick to 50's! We haven't had a bad meal there yet, and we have tried most everything there between the 5 of us.

I am going to Prime Time in October for the first time !!Do they let you substitute veggies like green beans instead of greens ?????The Pot Roast is calling me !!!! Not sure on desserts nothing really sticks out !!!

James and I finished our visit to Endor and headed to meet the rest of our gang at our lunch destination, which was…

 Yay, I love Sci Fi!

Then, she looked at them and saw that they said something to the effect of “You currently have a fastpass for Toy Story Midway Mania. Another fastpass won’t be available until 11:20”. So, when we saw her she had just made her second trip across the park and back.
ACK! Poor thing - that's a heckuva trek in the heat of summer! :faint:

When I checked-in I asked if we could have a “car” booth and was told that with an ADR you are guaranteed one. That was good news, I hadn’t known that.
I never knew that either! Good policy! :thumbsup2

Makes me think of a skit I saw one time where they got the monster to stand at the designated spot and someone yells, “Hey, somebody drop a net!” Then Annette Funicello drops to the ground in a thud.
:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: Okay, that literally caused me to LOL!

Since I had a hamburger the day before at The Pepper Market, today I went with the smoked turkey sandwich.
:scared: Maybe it's just been my luck, but I find anything other than burgers or Reubens to be iffy at Sci Fi...
It was just “okay”.
Darn, just as I suspected. :sad2: Oh well - you'll just have to make a return visit!

Up next: When is a Fastpass not a Fastpass?
I'm going to hazard a guess... when it's for TSM?! :headache:

Okay, here are my sightings: In the first post, Judy appears in photos 2, 7, 8 and 10. In the second post, photo 5. How did I do?

Gee, you're going to make me go back and make up an answer key.

< 2 minute pause....hum the Jeopardy music to yourself or something >

Hmmmm. Anyone else want to submit an entry before I get back to Marv?

Well, when I made the comment about probably not being able to make the switch from 50's PT to try Sci-Fi, I didn't want to mention all the reports I had seen about the food, but since you mentioned it..... Judy loved it there, so it looks like we'll be going back. I now know what I have to stick with!

Will you know at ADR-time if you're going to REALLY want a burger 180 days out?

I am going to Prime Time in October for the first time !!Do they let you substitute veggies like green beans instead of greens ?????The Pot Roast is calling me !!!! Not sure on desserts nothing really sticks out !!!

I think they do. I remember that last year my nephew ordered the chicken and had a choice of vegetable. I don't remember what choices he had, but he got collard greens. :crazy2:  :sad2: And didn't finish them. At least it made for a fun moment with our server, Cousin Joey.

 Yay, I love Sci Fi!

We really enjoyed it.

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: Okay, that literally caused me to LOL!

I was probably 10 when I saw that....I don't even remember what show it was on....but that's the kind of stuff I remember.

:scared: Maybe it's just been my luck, but I find anything other than burgers or Reubens to be iffy at Sci Fi...

Darn, just as I suspected. :sad2: Oh well - you'll just have to make a return visit!

Yep, you called it. I knew that burgers were recommended, but since I'd had one the day before I went with the turkey sandwich. I thought it was a safe choice.

Judy has since said that she'd like to go back there, so I know for next time.

I'm going to hazard a guess... when it's for TSM?! :headache:

Nope....but it will be revealed in the next chapter!

I enjoyed all of the Sci-Fi pictures. I just love that place. You got some very clear, nice pictures in there! But now I want to go back. Now. And have one of those angus burgers for breakfast. Yeah, I once tried something else from there and was highly disappointed. I'll never get anything else but one of their burgers, a shake, and maybe Judy's onion rings! Yum!

Question: the picture in front of Sci-Fi, before you guys went in - did they remove the blue car that sits out front for photo ops or am I just not seeing it??? :confused3

Can't wait for the next installment. I am too curious to know when a fastpass is not a fastpass. :teacher:

Okay, now that I have a little more time, and I can keep my eyes open, I am ready to contribute some witty (or is that witless) responses.

When we got there, Judy and Marlene were waiting but Lauren hadn’t arrived yet, so we took a seat on a short stone wall around the landscaping. A moment later she speedwalked up to us, hot, and out of breath.
Imagine that, hot and out of breath during those cool summer months when you visited!!! :rotfl2:
She explained that she had forgotten that our fastpass window didn’t open until 11:20 and she must have arrived at the fastpass machine juuust before the time arrived. She got the fastpasses and without looking at them, walked all the way back across the park to Sci-Fi. Then, she looked at them and saw that they said something to the effect of “You currently have a fastpass for Toy Story Midway Mania. Another fastpass won’t be available until 11:20”. So, when we saw her she had just made her second trip across the park and back. That’s one of those mistakes that once you make it, you will never repeat!
I always took Lauren as a fast learner! :thumbsup2
When I checked-in I asked if we could have a “car” booth and was told that with an ADR you are guaranteed one. That was good news, I hadn’t known that.
Good info to have, if I ever decide to head here to eat.
While we waited to be seated, I was surprised by the number of people that came in without an ADR, asking if they could be seated. Let’s turn to C-3PO for his take on this…

“Sir, the possibility of successfully being seated at Sci-Fi Dine-In during lunch hour on a Star Wars Weekend is approximately 3,720 to 1!”
I've seen the same thing at 50's PT, and I bet there isn't a whole lot of difference in the odds...
I didn’t tell Judy about it until later in the day because I didn’t want her to be concerned about crazy DIS people :crazy2: following us.
Okay, two comments come to mind here. The first was "Like that has ever happened at WDW!" As I got ready to type that, another came to mind..... "Especially after that scary group from last summer's trip." (Notice how I kept it along the Sci-Fi movie theming ;) )
My kids wondered how his clothes grew with him? Very perceptive, I thought.
They deserve extra onion rings next time for that one. :thumbsup2
I kind of wish she had moved the tray though.
I'm glad you pointed that out. I thought it was just one of those zany 50's style hood ornaments! :confused3
She also got a vanilla Coke, and she loved that. It brought back childhood memories for her, of the days when she used to walk home from school and could get these along the way. And, they were free refills, so you couldn’t beat that!
This is one of the reasons DS21 loves going to 50's PT. He always gets the vanilla cokes, and the refills flow freely for sure with him!
The girls both got an Angus burger, fries, and vanilla shakes. They loved them! I knew I should have waited until Sci-Fi to get a burger!
How do I know 180 days out when I make my ADRs that I won't want a burger when I get there? Because I just tend to stay away from burgers when we go to WDW altogether. Not 100% sure why, but mainly because it is usually too hot to want a burger sitting there all afternoon while I ride and walk, and, because I typically see something else on the menu I would rather have, although I have to admit from everything I've read, if I did want a burger, Sci-Fi is one of the places to go for it!
James was disappointed that they showed all these movie trailers and never actually showed the movies.
Yeah, I love the clips showing on the TVs at 50's PT, but it gets tiring after a very short time seeing the same thing over and over and over before you leave. Were the trailers in Sci-Fi the same way, where they started repeating while you were there? Maybe both places need to play episodes of the shows, or parts of the movies instead. Then again, that might cause a lot of backlog in ADRs with people hanging out because the suspense is too great to get up and leave! :rotfl2:
It was really...not good. And that's coming from me, who'll eat just about anything. Yes, I wondered what chef would put that on the menu. Are they actually trying the stuff they're serving.
Maybe one who isn't, uh.......Pampered?
Yes, we saw the whole reel of stuff about 3 times while we were there, so I'd definitely look forward to a little change-up if/when we go again.
Oh, nevermind.....
My wife especially, loved Sci-Fi, so we'll be going back. Gotta keep her happy you know.
Thank you! (If I didn't know that that hot dog actually flips, I'd think you were swearing!) My wife remembered watching some of those movies on Sunday afternoon creature features. (But me, I'm just too young. ;))
Wow, you're really good at this!!! :lmao:

Awesome pics on the Sci Fi update, Glenn! Do you remember what settings you were using on the camera?

Aren't you glad you weren't the one who made the fastpass mistake?! If it were me, I don't think I'd have ran back to correct it. But teenagers have so much more energy!

Okay, so has sleepingbooty had adequate time to play the game, or can the rest of us try and claim the Judy-do sighting points yet? Enjoyed the TR update and Sci-Fi looks like fun, but I doubt I will be able to get DSs to switch over from 50's Prime Time. That is one of their favorites.

Darn, I didn't even think about it! I didn't know you were waiting for me to catch up Marvali - thanks! I'm lousy at these games, I guess you'll just have to play without me!:goodvibes

I LOVED this update and review on Sci-Fi dine in! It usually gets not so good reviews. You're pictures were fantastic and I think we will try this restaurant next time we go! :3dglasses We'll just stick to the burgers. It looks like that is the thing to order. I like that they have cars with 2 rows of seats and 3 rows of seats. I always thought we'd end up having to sit with other people since we are only a party of 3.

Oh I totally feel for your daughter running for fastpasses TWICE in that heat!!! YIKES!!!

Speaking of the heat....I found one of THE BEST places to cool off at DHS. The entrance/exit door of the gift shop at Star Tours. I had just ran to get fastpasses and had a huge headache due to the heat and then DH and DS wanted to ride ST. I was thinking that I may get motion sickness because of the way I already felt. I decided to soak up some A/C in the giftshop and just wait for them. Low and behold, I walked through that doorway and the A/C blows straight down on your head! I stood there (toward the side) the entire time until my headache was gone and my body temp was back to normal! A man saw me and looked at me weird until he passed under it and suddenly thought I was a genius! He even told me so. :rotfl2: I commented back by saying "best ride in the park, isn't it??" He laughed and then we stood there for the next 20-30 minutes laughing at everyone else passing by drenched in sweat. :thumbsup2

Hey Glenn! Great update. I know what that fast pass run feels like in Summer. To do it twice? :faint:

Sci Fi looks like a really cool place. I'm still on the fence about adding it in next time. Whenever that may be. There are so many places we haven't tried so it makes it tough to narrow the list down. But it is just so darn nifty looking in there, that somehow this place keeps hanging out in the "maybe" section.

Oh and great photos by the way! Very tough to do in low light without the benefit of your friendly neighborhood tripod. I am duly impressed.

Makes me think of a skit I saw one time where they got the monster to stand at the designated spot and someone yells, “Hey, somebody drop a net!” Then Annette Funicello drops to the ground in a thud.
:surfweb: :lmao: And again coffee gets spilled on my keyboard :rotfl:

The girls both got an Angus burger, fries, and vanilla shakes. They loved them! I knew I should have waited until Sci-Fi to get a burger!
Awww! As a fan of burgers and cheesy sci-fi movies I've always wanted to eat at this place, but I always get "outvoted" :sad2:

Question: Did you use the flash for these pictures?
IMG_2644.jpg

Also... another question... is it true that this place is very cold?

And on the subject of "The Meaning of Life", I really like this movie... very funny and philosophic at some points... but the sketch of the French restaurant is absolutely disgusting... I always skip it entirely when I watch the movie

HI Glenn, I've been trying to find 20 minutes of straight time on this computer for like, all day, not happening. Hopefully, tomorrow, I'll not be thwarted in my attempts to interact with your super-duper post!! Night.

Great review. We haven't been there since our first family trip in 2002. I didn't really care for my food but we loved the atmosphere. We really need to give it another go. I have 2 family members that love burgers and I could go for a good rueben. Of course those onion rings sound great along with the onion rings. I remember that hot dog clip from Grease during the drive-in scene.

Waiting for you fast pass story.

Yum!

Thanks! An angus burger for breakfast....okay, I could be talked into that.

Question: the picture in front of Sci-Fi, before you guys went in - did they remove the blue car that sits out front for photo ops or am I just not seeing it??? :confused3

I don't remember seeing a blue car. I'm not sure if I framed the picture so it wasn't included or if it wasn't there. I hadn't ever eaten there before, so didn't know to look for one. :confused3

Can't wait for the next installment. I am too curious to know when a fastpass is not a fastpass. :teacher:

Good! Check back later in the week.

Okay, not that I have a little more time, and I can keep my eyes open, I am ready to contribute some witty (or is that witless) responses.

Imagine that, hot and out of breath during those cool summer months when you visited!!! :rotfl2:

I know it's hard to imagine, but try. If you still can't do it, go work with a paving crew for a few hours.

I always took Lauren as a fast learner! :thumbsup2

I was kind of surprised that she made that mistake.

I've seen the same thing at 50's PT, and I bet there isn't a whole lot of difference in the odds...

Well, at least they weren't too surprised they got turned away. They asked like, "would it be at all possible....". But I saw at least two groups of people without ADRs in just the couple of minutes we waited.

Okay, two comments come to mind here. The first was "Like that has ever happened at WDW!" As I got ready to type that, another came to mind..... "Especially after that scary group from last summer's trip." (Notice how I kept it along the Sci-Fi movie theming ;) )

Okay, okay. You and I both know it's possible to be "stalked" at WDW!

They deserve extra onion rings next time for that one. :thumbsup2

Wait a minute -- more for them means less for me! I'm not sure I like that.

I'm glad you pointed that out. I thought it was just one of those zany 50's style hood ornaments! :confused3

They were zany, weren't they!

Maybe both places need to play episodes of the shows, or parts of the movies instead. Then again, that might cause a lot of backlog in ADRs with people hanging out because the suspense is too great to get up and leave! :rotfl2:

Yeah, I don't think that would help turnover.

Maybe one who isn't, uh.......Pampered?

Oh, nice!

Awesome pics on the Sci Fi update, Glenn! Do you remember what settings you were using on the camera?

I can look it up when I'm at home. I'll get back to you.

Aren't you glad you weren't the one who made the fastpass mistake?! If it were me, I don't think I'd have ran back to correct it. But teenagers have so much more energy!

Absolutely, I'm glad it wasn't me. (But I'm glad she went back!)

Darn, I didn't even think about it! I didn't know you were waiting for me to catch up Marvali - thanks! I'm lousy at these games, I guess you'll just have to play without me!:goodvibes

Aw, we wanted to give you a fighting chance.

I LOVED this update and review on Sci-Fi dine in! It usually gets not so good reviews. I know the air "door" you're talking about, but have never stood there to soak up the coolness. (I'm sure there's a technical name for those things, I wonder what it is.) I'll keep that in mind for the future!

Hey Glenn! Great update. I know what that fast pass run feels like in Summer. To do it twice? :faint:

I don't think she was real happy about it, but took one for the team.

That's kind of where I was...just wanted to try it, for something different. Now Judy's saying "we have to go back there".

Oh and great photos by the way! Very tough to do in low light without the benefit of your friendly neighborhood tripod. I am duly impressed.

Thanks! I had fun clicking away.

No. The only picture that used a flash was the one that the server took of all of us in our car.

I'm trying to remember. I think it was a little cold....I think James was cold, but the rest of us were okay.

We watched "The Blind Side" a couple of weeks ago and I had to fast-forward through the part at the very beginning where they show Joe Theismann getting his leg broken by Lawrence Taylor. I saw it enough times back when it actually happened -- I didn't need to see it in a movie too.

HI Glenn, I've been trying to find 20 minutes of straight time on this computer for like, all day, not happening. Hopefully, tomorrow, I'll not be thwarted in my attempts to interact with your super-duper post!! Night.

I know what you mean! When the kids have their own e-mail accounts and Facebook, it can be tough. "Talk" to you tomorrow.

Great review. We haven't been there since our first family trip in 2002. I didn't really care for my food but we loved the atmosphere. We really need to give it another go. Thank you! Sounds like you should try it again, and you can just tell 'em you don't need a menu -- you'll just place your order as you're seated!

I'm surprised that my wife didn't tell me that that hot dog clip was used in Grease. She loves that movie.

Waiting for you fast pass story.

I hope it lives up to the hype!

Great Sci-fi update & pictures. Yep, seems like burgers & onion rings are the only way to go here! Do they have cherry coke too??????? I love a good cherry coke!!!!

Thanks for the Sci-Fi pictures, we have never been in there. It looks pretty cool, we may have to try it.

that dip judy got looked really good, i only started eating that stuff about a year ago, and love it.

it is a cool surrounding to go there, but like you said have to stick to the burgers...

that salad sounded good on paper, but the picture did not look that appetizing, when i doubt go for the fries, i alway said i was going to get something else, butmost time i stuck wit hwhat i knew i would like and got the fries.:sad2: maybe thats why i gained a few pounds, and yo ulost while there.

Thank you! Yes, they also have chery coke. That's a hard choice to make - cherry vs. vanilla.

Thanks for the Sci-Fi pictures, we have never been in there. It looks pretty cool, we may have to try it.

:welcome: Trophy Husband! Good to have you aboard.

Thanks! I recommend giving it a try, but as you can see from some of the banter following the chapter, your menu selection is key.

that dip judy got looked really good, i only started eating that stuff about a year ago, and love it.

Your taste buds are happy that you're becoming more adventuresome.

it is a cool surrounding to go there, but like you said have to stick to the burgers...

That's a fact (jack). (I just couldn't type "that's a fact" without adding "jack". It got me like Roger Rabbit and the ol' "shave and a haircut" thing...."Two bits!")

that salad sounded good on paper, but the picture did not look that appetizing, when i doubt go for the fries, i alway said i was going to get something else, butmost time i stuck wit hwhat i knew i would like and got the fries.:sad2: maybe thats why i gained a few pounds, and yo ulost while there.
:rotfl:

Yeah, if I had seen it ahead of time I don't think I would have ordered it.

Oh, and that's a good diet method....order stuff you don't like.

Awesome pics on the Sci Fi update, Glenn! Do you remember what settings you were using on the camera?

The room pictures all use an ISO setting of 800. I think I set that, and then put the camera on "Program" (automatic).

The pictures of the room all have an aperture setting of F3.5, and the shutter speed ranges from .3 seconds to .8 seconds. (The lens was open a pretty long time, as it's easy to get blur at anything longer than 1/60.)

For the one of the girls, the shutter was open a whole second. I can hardly believe that one myself. Forget about me holding the camera still, I'm surprised they held still!

The shots of the screen were around .25 to .4 seconds of shutter speed.

Oh, the food pics used flash and were 1/60 shutter speed, F3.5 to 4, and ISO 400.

That's a relief! Both that it wasn't you guys I was "DISing" and that I wasn't waiting for a Jawa autograph behind your DH or BIL!

I remember reading that on your thread, that your kids were upset by the movie trailers. That's kind of surprising...they're so over the top cheesy.

Yes, Judy wasn't sure she wanted to let James see that Star Wars episode either. When he did she was all worried that he'd have nightmares or something. Nope. No problem whatsoever.

So, you were there later in the afternoon right? I forget, did you have an ADR or just wait for an opening?

The movie trailers are more than cheesy...my kids are just weird!! :confused3

We were there later that afternoon. We had an ADR, but asked to be seated earlier if possible (due to the kids being in Jedi Training just over an hour after our scheduled seating time). Yeah, that's easy..."Could you please seat our group of 16 earlier than our scheduled ADR? We've had a change in our schedule..." We were pretty much seated on time, though, which was better than nothing, and we were in two cars next to each other.
