The Moist Exhausting Free Trip Ever - Link to Part II Thread pg. 244

Nope, doesn't correspond so well with the chart, but I see a few others agree... Hmmm... :confused3

Now, onto commenting....

1) I hope I get some friendly co-riders who will do goofy stuff on our bus too!

2) Judy's work schedule leading up to the trip was INSANE!!!! She's must have been as fried as I am.

3) This makes me second guess my whole arrival scenario. Although, my room should be ready at 12:30- at least I hope so!

4) I'm still paranoid I'm going to miss ME.

5) What's the point of a 1/2 inch packet of cookies?? Pu-leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze! :headache:

6) I suck at multi-quoting...

7) Judy let her hair grow out some- looks GREAT!

Hi!
I'm joining late! :goodvibes Your TR is great so far!
Oh and with the soda thing here in Wisconsin the city we live in it's called soda but the more north or west you go it's called pop! If I want a soda I just say I'll have a diet. :)

Ok this is for Flossablona!!

Hi lurking and following along here to!

Oh and on the pop and soda debate: is that all kind of bubbly drinks or just coke in its different variations? Would sprite be pop or soda as well? Just trying to improve my vocabulary here. And btw. in German it's called "Limo" (pronounced like the car), short for "Limonade", i.e. lemonade. But this refers to all sugary fizzy drinks.

As you know already we will be in Germany in September. How would we order a soda? Should we ask for Limo? and if we only want tap water how should we ask for it? This is very interesting.

This is really interesting!! My question is what do you call a water fountain where you live?? Here in well at least in Milwaukee and surrounding suburbs we call a bubbler!! When my kids were little and we were traveling I would make them ask where the bubbler was!! :rotfl:
I find it facinating what others call various things from where there from. We could start a whole thread on this.... hmmmmm....

Hi lovealldisney!! And :welcome:

Are you kidding? You're not late. In the TR we haven't even gotten to the room yet!

"I'll have a diet" -- no one's reported that one yet!

Good questions. popcorn::

Okay, I'm all caught up! I am glad that everything went so smoothly with your flight and getting to the ME bus. Too funny that you were so determined to hold onto your luggage and bell services ended up with them anyway. I couldn't help but laugh at the gleam of satisfaction that you noticed in the CM's eye after you got your claim ticket. :rotfl:

yeah you would at least think they would have a street sign thingy, but ohh well, when we did make it to the correct ME side, the line to check in was at the elevators doors...so it was easy to find from there, took about 30 minutes to get to the check in desk, the one lady said there were over 2000 families that were arriving within 30 minutes of each otehr and we got stuck in it.

Wow, I can't imagine the line backed-up to the elevator. An experience like that would make me rethink ME for next time. This last time was really fast. No one else in front of us at the first check-point, no one else in our velvet-rope area for our resort. We were put on a bus in just a couple of minutes.

i saw your writing about the dutch, do you have any amish by you glenn? or is that a different part of the state.

They're not far away, but I don't see them very often. Believe it or not, there are posts for buggies to be hitched to at our grocery store parking lot, but I have never seen any there. I think there are more Amish a little further southwest from us and definitely more towards Lancaster (obviously). Judy has done PChef shows for the Amish once or twice. She had a lot of fun, but had to adjust to no microwave and stuff like that.

Our first contract was HHI & we added points at SSR. Now, I am dreaming of adding BLT points.:cool1: It's an addiction I tell ya.:cool1:

I know, I know! Have you been to HHI much? It looks really nice, and relaxing. I might like to try it sometime.

Your right Glenn, ME rocks!

:thumbsup2

Don't worry -- TR fodder happens!

2) Judy's work schedule leading up to the trip was INSANE!!!! She's must have been as fried as I am.

Pretty much.

3) This makes me second guess my whole arrival scenario. Although, my room should be ready at 12:30- at least I hope so!

I think we were there around 1:00 (darn, I meant look at some picture properties to get a guage of the time and forgot to) and couldn't get into the room yet. I think that's pretty unusual. I hope it works out for you.

4) I'm still paranoid I'm going to miss ME.

Nah, you'll be fine. B and down, B and down.

5) What's the point of a 1/2 inch packet of cookies?? Pu-leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze! :headache:

I guess in enough quantities, they're enough.

6) I suck at multi-quoting...

Practice, practice, practice.

7) Judy let her hair grow out some- looks GREAT!

I like it better long, she likes it better short. But in truth, it's probably long because she never had time for an appointment.

Why, thank you. :goodvibes

It's always some kind of party with the lot of us. :dance3:

You're welcome. And I didn't even point out that I haven't turned anybody away yet, regardless of how they got here. :rotfl:

I've heard about "bubbler". We just call them drinking fountains or water fountains.

A thread would be good.....but, well, I hadn't intended for this one to be it! Sounds like I better get some more content on here!

Hey! We call them jimmies in Maine!

Maybe so, but you're in Virginia now so you better make sure you're using the correct local references!

Well....that may have been a little poetic license. :rolleyes1 But hey, I've gotta keep the story good, right?

I just looked it up and PA Dutch according to Wikipedia refers more to Germans than Dutch (from the German word for German: Deutsch). And the expression "It's all" and the use of "awhile" make a lot of sense in German. When learning English there is the warning of "false friends" words that sound very similar in English and German and have a different meaning. "Alle" can also mean "empty" or "nothing left over" besides also meaning "all". And "awhile" sounds like "eine Weile" (in colloquial German eine is often pronouned just like a) which would be used just as in your example. But "Are you done your homework" can't explained from German. :confused3 The literal translation of the German sentance would be "Have you done your homework?"

We lived in Lancaster for a few years and heard a lot of "it's all" and "awhile". I actually had forgotten about "it's all" until you mentioned it, but I will never forget "awhile".

Yes, PA Dutch is really PA Deutsch. That's really interesting about "alle" and "eine weile". "Have you done your homework?" would be correct, but they'll say something like "Once you're done your homework....". And if ask them about the "with" they'll say they said it.

Hey! We call them jimmies in Maine!

Sorry to keep bringing it up (I feel like I'm hijaking!) but yeah...I'm guilty of "done" too. I'm really bad with that one. When I'm done eating I'll say, "All done!" instead of "I'm finished!" I also constantly drop the "with" in sentences, "Once I'm done taking the dog out, I'll start dinner." ...sounds totally normal to me!

...And yep. Jimmies. :snooty:

Maybe so, but you're in Virginia now so you better make sure you're using the correct local references!

Nope. I'm going to use "jimmies" and watch the confused look on their faces. And I teach my boys to call them "jimmies" too. It's right up there with turning them into fans of New England sports teams. Part of their heritage.

Day 1 - Part 2

After finally giving in to fate, and turning our luggage over to bell services, we went to the Pepper Market to get some lunch. It was after 1pm and we were starving.

I’d read on the Disboards that they have a little different system for ordering and paying for food here, and quite frankly, from the descriptions, I was still confused. We were seated and our server came over to take our drink orders and she asked if we’d eaten there before. We said “no” and she proceeded to tell us how it worked. It’s actually quite simple, and it works much better than other food courts, such as the Riverside Mill at Port Orleans Riverside. Let me try to explain it. Your server will give you a few 3x5 inch cards with a bunch of boxes, about 1 inch square, printed on them. We received one card per person, but it doesn’t have to be that way. You take your card with you as you peruse the various food stations, and when you request something, the food service worker will stamp one of the boxes on your card with whatever it was you ordered, and give you your food order. You take your food and card back to your seating area, and when you’re finished eating you take all of your cards to the CM at the register who tallies them up and holds out her hand while the Disney cash register makes a “cha-ching” sound. I liked it better than the Riverside Mill system where you stand at the register with a tray full of food waiting to pay, and then if you want to get another item, like dessert, that you didn’t get the first time around, you have to run the gauntlet of the cash register again. Not so at the Pepper Market!

Here are a couple photos of the décor. The first is from our table, looking up at this half-human/half-bird kind of statue thing.

This second picture shows more of the dining area, but you can kind of see back to the food stations where you would get your food, if you look way toward the back.

IMG_2504.jpg

I just noticed that you can see Judy in this picture. Middle of the picture, a little off to the right, waaaay in the back near the food stations, wearing a multi-colored shirt and blue shorts.

Judy stayed at the table with our stuff while I took the kids back to the food stations. One of the first things I noticed, and I had been warned of this on the DIS, was that it was a little pricey for a food court. I think the cheapest entrée was $9.99, and they went up from there obviously. I forget what it was, but James announced, “I’m going to get the whatever”, which happened to be the most expensive item at that particular station. So, I obviously had to lay a framework for the kids’ selection process. I said, “You can pick any entrée, as long as it’s $9.99 or less.” (There were several choices at $9.99….cheeseburgers, pasta, pizza) He eventually settled on a cheeseburger. Marlene was standing at that station and looked at the sign. It had “cheeseburger” on it, but not “hamburger”, so she asked for a cheeseburger without any cheese. The worker guy said, “you mean a hamburger?” And she felt like, duh. But it wasn’t listed on the sign! Lauren got a margherita pizza. I decided to wait to order, because these kids don’t always eat all of their food, and sometimes the Disney portions are big. And at these prices I didn’t want to order more food than we needed only to throw half of it in the trash. I thought maybe I’d split something with Judy, and see if there would be any leftovers to be had.

When I returned to the table I learned that Judy had ordered a nachos appetizer for herself as her lunch.

Even though this was our first Disney meal, and it had been a year since I had been in “Trip Report” mode, I remembered to take a few pictures of the food.

James diving in. Whoa, watch out that you don't eat the toothpick, kid!

His burger.

Lauren’s margherita pizza, which she loved. I got a bite and it was reaaaalllly good.

IMG_2507.jpg

And Judy enjoying her nachos, with a big bowl of jalapenos on the side.

IMG_2508.jpg

It was soon readily apparent that no one was going to leave any table scraps for the likes of me so I went back and ordered a burger of my own. I was debating between the burger and the pizza, but I went with the burger. I didn’t take a picture, since it looked identical to James’. Something in the planning/preparation portion of my brain was telling me not to get a burger here, but I couldn’t remember why, so I got it anyway. It turns out it was because tomorrow’s lunch would be at Sci-Fi, which is a great place for a burger, and I should have waited, but now I’m getting ahead of myself.

Edited to add: I guess I was a little hasty in posting this chapter because I completely forgot about how hungry, and how fast Marlene ate. She had a burger, like James, and it was literally gone in seconds. And she was still hungry. She was asking for James' fries, bites of Lauren's pizza, Judy's nachos. Where didn't know where she was putting it!

Here's a photo I forgot to include, which just illustrates my point.
IMG_2509.jpg

It's like a feeding frenzy! According to Lauren's watch it was 2 o'clock. No wonder!

Up next: Oh yes, about those tickets to nowhere

And with visions of fake cheese sauce oozing in my brain, I can now drift off into sleep slumber. Thank you a million times over! :worship:

I definitely think that reading the descriptions on The Dis about how to order at the Pepper Market always makes it seem more complicated than it is. I liked all the food we had gotten from there except our fries which were always overly salty.

And mm... the Sci Fi burger *drool*

Ahhh that first Disney meal. Sounds like you had good start. We usually have to have that first meal before we head out too. DH always finishes off everyone's meals.

I like Pepper Market, especially when I am on the DDP.
Really good value for a CS credit.

I have had people refer to it as Pepper Market Bingo with the card.

Still not sure why the car has squares on it since none of the food stations stay in their square.:rotfl2:

I hope you had a chance to taste the desserts.

I must admit, I still don't get how it works.

That burger looks monsterous and that pizza looks awesome.

Is that bird doing the Asian Power fist.;)

the pizza looks good but small for the price! Disney burgers seem pricey anywhere, it is where I like having the DDP so I'm not having heart attacks at the CS pricing, it adds up FAST!
