The Moist Exhausting Free Trip Ever - Link to Part II Thread pg. 244

i was just about to chime in, then i saw you link. In so. cal, growing up, we always said coke for EVERYTHING.

:confused3

Hmmm. Seems to disagree with the chart?

I know, I know.

Okay, all. I've gotta sign-off for a while. My oldest daughter needs to correspond with her boyfriend. He's a big football player kid, and he's going to come over to watch one of her favorite movies with her..."Life is Beautiful". If you've never seen it, it's great, but a huge tear-jerker at the end. I can't wait to "happen" to walk by and see if he's blubbering.

Check out this chart I found on wikipedia. Will this put this subject to bed? Doubtful. I think the variation in Alaska, Nevada, and New Mexico is interesting.

Now that's very interesting. Thanks for posting that Glen. The further north you go, the more "Pop" is common :thumbsup2

Another one for you, when I was in Italy if you say water they'll give you sparkly (carbonated) water. You have to specifically say tap water or no fizz to get regular water.

Swiffer is such a cutie!!!

Holy Moly how did I get so far behind???? Well, I'm here regardless. Just read your intro and I have to agree with the choice of TR title! It was moist and exhausting! We too had to rest a few days after the trip. Next time I need to plan better.

Ok, going back to read the 2nd installment.......

:rotfl2: Too funny about the ears on the bus to the airport.
Very cool that you got to do an experiment on the plane. :thumbsup2
ME seems like it can sometimes be a pain in the neck. No? :confused3

:lmao: That cracked me up about bell services and the bags. At least when we drive we dont have to deal with that at all.

that chart is a riot! Pop here but I go both ways with the Soda/Pop thing, must be from living in Chicago for 10 years.

Great update! I can relate to the bell services thing, although a bit confused that you put the bags on the bus and then went back in line? We just rolled through with our bags after checking in.

Judy deserved a vacation after that last week, hopefully there was some relaxing in there for her.

I'm not getting the boys another haircut until the trip on purpose, so we can go straight to main street barber!

Welcome Blueyed Girl! Oh, and to make it official ---> :welcome:

We really enjoyed getting to meet you, DH, and DS. So, you noticed the heat and humidity too?

Glad you're here!

Pop is more common than I thought. I guess because of where I live now.

I visited Belgium back in 1980, to visit Bart's family (you may remember him from my Flashback Belgium and Vienna TR in my PTR) and I remember that they had carbonated water from a brand called "Spa". The green labels were sweetened , and the red labels were not :crazy2:. (Or, maybe vice versa.) I learned pretty quick.

Swiffer is such a cutie!!!

Thanks. He's not quite as clean and white today as he was in that picture.

We needed some TR material and "Randy" came through.

ME's not that bad really. I think we waited longer last year than this year. I can't imagine that catching a cab or renting a car would have gotten us to the resort much faster than we did.

We didn't go back inside. She was standing at the door of the bus, so when people came along we kind of had to get behind them.

Judy deserved a vacation after that last week, hopefully there was some relaxing in there for her.

Well....not really.

I'm not getting the boys another haircut until the trip on purpose, so we can go straight to main street barber!

I mentioned that to her (she's not up on all of that stuff like I am), but not until our last evening. Ooops. We were busy, all the time.

I am finding your TR very educational. We were there June 8-15 and so far, I have learned why CSR was sold out for some of our dates when I tried to book it last October and why all of the red-shirted people were in the parks (We thought they were just all AWOL from some conference).

Subbing!

:welcome: ksl5f123! You've got it, that's what was up. I'm glad that I'm able to provide some insight. Thanks for joining in.

See, same as me!! I always thought it came from living in the South and my Southern heritage...but I also lived in So Ca as a kid, so guess that why Coke covers everything for me as well. It's Coke, not matter what the label says.:thumbsup2

It does make sense the whole soda vs pop since waaay back when it was known as Soda Pop - guess either is an abbreviation for the other.

(p.s. Meant to say that in MA a milkshake has no ice cream, but a Frappe does - I realize how important that clarification might be so did not want to move on without it.....:rolleyes1 :rotfl2:)

I had to adjust to that after moving here to So OR too when I was growing up. "Do you want a coke?" "Sure!" "What kind?" I came from the midwest, and we drank pop. DH was a Navy Brat, but his mom's family was from Chicago and he still says "soda."

Somehow the English wikipedia does not work for me today... :confused3 I am getting a bit nervous that I might have a virus since sometimes strange website open up (not nasty ones, just different ones)...

But on the carbonated water: used to be the same when I was a kid. Now restaurants also have still bottled water. But in general if you order water in a restaurant you are most likely going to get bottled water - which you will have to pay for.

The days leading up to our trip had been rather hectic, especially for Judy.
Oh my gosh, no kidding! :faint: Was she ready for a break or what?!

Too funny! :rotfl:

James had a little science experiment going on during the flight. I guess he’d talked to a teacher before the trip who suggested that he take an empty water bottle with him to see what happened to it and learn about air pressure.
Ooo, ooo, pick me, pick me! I know how this one turns out!
Then, on the way back down, we watched that baby shrivel up until the sides were almost touching each other.
::yes:: Amazingly, it surprises me every flight.

The bell services lady had a strange, satisfied glint in her eye as she handed me my claim ticket, and we set off for the Pepper Market for our first Disney grub of the trip.
Be afraid. Be very afraid. :scared2:

ETA: I seem to sync with the chart: born and raised in Buffalo, where all carbonated beverages were "pop." Here in the Tampa Bay area of FL, it's "soda."

I love the water bottle experiment...I'll have to try that next time I fly with my kids.:thumbsup2

I swear getting from the gate to ME takes as long as the flight!

I completely forgot about the combined "soda pop".

I think I'd be ticked if I ordered a milkshake and it had no ice cream in it.

Milkshakes may or may not be making an appearance later in the trip report. :rolleyes1

I wonder if we'll lose some of these regional differences due to tv and internet and global communications? Just something to think about. Okay, I'm done...too tough.

I sent you a pm on how I cleaned-up my virus, with GB's help.

Interesting. I guess you have to be careful how you order.

Oh my gosh, no kidding! :faint: Was she ready for a break or what?!

At the moment I think she would have preferred a more relaxing couple of days, but was still happy going to Disney.

Ooo, ooo, pick me, pick me! I know how this one turns out!

::yes:: Amazingly, it surprises me every flight.

You must have won a science fair or two in your day. ;)

Be afraid. Be very afraid. :scared2:

I was thinking that maybe I just don't have a very memorable face.

ETA: I seem to sync with the chart: born and raised in Buffalo, where all carbonated beverages were "pop." Here in the Tampa Bay area of FL, it's "soda."

So, do you have a preference, or do you go with whatever the locals call it wherever you are at the time?

I love the water bottle experiment...I'll have to try that next time I fly with my kids.:thumbsup2

The best part was that I could use it as an illustration as to why his ears were causing him to almost scream in pain. (As if he wanted a science lesson at that moment.)

I swear getting from the gate to ME takes as long as the flight!

Oh, that's just 'cause you're so excited to see the Mouse.

First I have to comment on the soda, pop and coke thing. I live in South Louisiana and everything is called coke. "Do you want a coke? What kind?"

Sorry things were so busy for your wife before your trip. She's very lucky to have you. I would have been nuts if I was that busy before. Glad to see she was able to go with the flow and have fun.

I want to try that bottle experiment. DD had a very had time last year with our flight. She was in tears on the way home.

We flew Southwest last year and I had the hardest time finding ME.

Love your sign picture! We missed the sign this last trip. The Garmin brought us in the back by the distribution warehouses, no welcome.:sad2:

All the trouble you went to with your luggage and Disney still got it.:scared1:

Coming along for the ride after seeing your posts on Dan's trippie.
We will be staying at CSR in Aug as my hubby has a conference there & I am tagging along so anxious to hear about it. We are DVCer's too!!!!

We call it soda/coke in so cal. when I lived in Portland it was pop....

love the chart...

ME........I love the start of WDW vacations...
