The Middle impressions

Do you normally watch the show? I don't the show would of worked at all especially as a season finale had they just done it as a wonderfully happy commercial for the resort. That is not the Heck family and it's the reason that I believe so many regular families can relate to them in some way every week. What family hasn't been to "the happiest place on Earth" with a meltdown of kids, adults or a combination of the two?! Even though we have never (yet, thankfully) had a visit to the first aid we have had fighting and long standby lines. Thankfully every time it works out wonderfully though! Disney magic at it's best! :goodvibes

The show and Disney are two different things. Disney doesn't want melt downs, long lines, crowds, anything negative in the press or on TV. They even used the color blue instead of red if your MB isn't read because red is a negative color.

The show could have been true to the Heck's but abbreviated and Brick's girlfriend segment could have been cut. The whole show just seemed weird in someway, not Disney like, maybe because it's produced by Warner Bros.

:earsboy: Bill

The first time I watched it I thought it was great! The second time I just got annoyed. In all Sue's planning, she didn't plan fast passes? They didn't just go back in after accidentally leaving? (Before the fireworks.). They slept until 3 pm? Had a table service meal in France with no ADR? Watched Illuminations from an empty bridge? I wish there had been more Disney too and less "driving to see a strange girl". I also noticed the magic bands in all the scenes....

I liked seeing the inside of the villa and I liked the bonding at the end. :)

i didnt care for the commercial at all. the episode didnt showcase disney like we thought it would but it was good.

It was a little much. The writers and the actors try too hard too often for laughs that aren't there.

I think it was a grand villa at the villas at grand floridian

We won't get the episode here for a year or more. :sad1:

This does strike me as off the, the Hecks would not have the budget for GF (did they win the trip in the episode?) It would be more realistic to put them in POP

I had never seen the show before and this episode just made me a fan,I see a lot of posters talking about how unrealistic the show was,why didn't they use FP,show more of the resorts and so on,if you want that watch the Christmas day parade, this show was hilarious and Sue just became one of my favorite TV characters. Its a show about an imperfect family with issues that had a touch of National Lampoons Vacation,my all time favorite movie.I've already seen 3 more shows on demand including the one before the Disney trip showing how Sue won the trip, her reaction from when she thought she had won a car to a Disney trip was great after basically being scammed in the contest. Its a funny show,I think I gotta go find previous seasons on DVD.

The Middle is one of my favorite shows. I think they have some very talented writers. Who else but the Heck's could spend an entire day at WDW and "Heck it up" so bad that they didn't go on a single ride. Sue is also our favorite character.

They won the trip.

I thought it was great episode. Showed the magic bands a lot.
And where else could you show up at the wrong place and they still make accomadations for you.only Disney.
I really liked when the mom had a melt down and said why can't we be one of the perfect families with matching shirts.
Made me even more excited for September trip.

I was surprised that the second day didn't get better because they started using the Magicbands. I guess that would have been too obvious in terms of advertising.

I thought the part with Epcot and France was really cute.

I think the writers were having a laugh at the overplanners with Sue! So funny.

They could have skipped the part with Brick's girlfriend and shown more WDW scenes instead.

Yup. My family is a fan of the show and are annual WDW guests. It was a letdown in both aspects...bad Middles episode and poor highlighting of the magic. The only thing we found funny was my wife pointing out that Natalie from The Facts Of Life was the MK nurse. Haven't seen her in years. No Tootie, Blair, or Jo! :) The Full House episode was 1000 times better!

I am a commando tourer, and it was literally one of the most uncomfortable things I have sat through, to watch them wander around the parks for a whole day and not ride anything. It was like watching "Saw" level uncomfortable. I'm not joking.

I thought it was pretty funny. And very true of a lot of family vacations. You always have the one who would be happy to just be alone and not with the family, The uber planner. I have had WDW vacations where it seems like the plan didn't work out because of another family member or because of my issues. I could just feel the frustration they had.

I had one recently.

Our family loves sitting down on Wednesday nights and watching "The Middle" - it's been one of our favorite shows for years.

The beauty of the show is following an American family through all of their dysfunction…but the highlight has always been Sue. Sue, no matter what trials and tribulations life throws at her, always has a positive attitude and never lets life get her down.

What I enjoyed about this episode was how the kids all came together at the end - to enjoy the parks/rides together, instead of going their separate ways. And knowing the Heck family, I guarantee you that they all had a great time - in their own way. The Mom was thrilled to go home with a suitcase of soft toilet paper; the Dad was happy because he "took" his wife to "Paris"…and each of the kids have their own great memories of the trip, whether it's their first ride on Splash Mountain, a pair of Mickey ears, or meeting Mickey Mouse.

I'm GLAD it wasn't a sappy, sweet commercial for WDW, as that would have ruined the true premise of the show. We enjoyed it!

They won the trip.

All they won was the tickets (to Disneyland).

They were pixie dusted into the suite, because no Garden View (I assume that is lowest level- that's usually what hotels call their parking lot views...) rooms were available.

I'm really surprised that the show didn't say where the hotel room was. How can people go book it? Pretty awful advertising! (I actually liked that this seemed to be a typical Middle episode set in Disney, rather than a Disney commercial using the Middle characters.)

I loved it. Sue is my spirit animal!! I'm way too invested in her happiness, LOL!!
I've actually had nightmares that our trip will turn out like theirs...the whole never being able to ride a ride thing, just aimlessly wandering. *shudder*

I do agree with those who wished they'd have left out the part about Brick's girlfriend. It didn't really "go" with the rest of it.

Now I want to make shirts for our trip that say, "Makin' Memories Thompson Family Style" and "Don't Heck it up!"

I only watch this show occasionally, but don't know why I don't watch it more often. That girl cracks me up. I watched this episode, though, and loved it, especially with the girl's binder, counting down, etc., and the younger brother's line saying something like, "We're so lucky we found the store that sells Disney merchandise!"

I thought the show did a good job of walking a fine line of advertising WDW a bit, yet still being full of the dysfunction that the show usually features. There was some ride action shown in the montage showing the kids riding a few things. If it showed any more than that the show might have lost its dysfunctional appeal. One of the points of the episode was to showcase everything going wrong, even at WDW. Showing the family boarding every ride with short lines and smiling ear to ear wouldn't have worked.

Maybe I misheard because I was multitasking but I thought when Sue answered the phone she stated the name of the hotel. I thought Axl also mentioned it or part of it when they all slept in the next day.

Yes you do!! It's a great show, I watched a bunch of episodes on a plane trip back from Hawaii after we had first discovered it. I didn't want to get off of the plane! My DS12 has been going through all sorts of firsts right along with Brick, and my husband and I laugh because in some ways he is so much like Brick (but secretly is an Axl wanna be!) You'll love all the previous shows and it always makes you feel better about your own family!!:goodvibes
