Day 3, Part 1 In Which We Enjoy Breakfast In Hawaii
I could not sleep again.
I tweeted:
Too excited to sleep AGAIN!!!!! Oh pardon me but Mr. Three why must we paint them red? 12:51 AM Apr 13th via txt
And again:
Getting up in the middle of the night to eat a Mickey rice crispie treat is necessary. 1:38 AM Apr 13th via txt
Mickey Rice Crispie Treats are one of my favorite things at Disney. I always stock up on a bunch to snack on randomly in the room and I think, if you can't sleep, you should instead spend the time eating these.
We slept in late this morning, not planning to visit a park until after our breakfast ADR. My hand reached out from under a pile of half eaten Mickey Rice Crispie Treats to pick up the phone for our wake-up call.
"TIME TO GET UP!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SLEEPING!!!!"
Delightful.

We were very excited to go to one of our favorite resorts where we would eat at one of our favorite restaurants! We caught the bus to the MK and then the monorail to:
DISNEY'S POLYNESIAN RESORT!!!!!!
There is something special about this resort that I can not quite put my finger on. I mean yes, it is beautiful and has great restaurants and is within walking distance of a castle and all that. But there is something else! A vibe, or something. I just always feel SO GOOD when I am there. It is definitely my favorite MK area resort... and comes close to being my favorite of them all.
Immediately upon getting off the monorail and walking through the doors we are hit with the best smell in the world: THE DISNEY DIRTY WATER SMELL. Oh, it's heaven. I turned my nose up and inhaled hard. If only every smell was this good, this flooded with memories. When I am rich, I plan to have some kind of waterfall or something in my house so that I can smell this delicious and potent scent at all times.
We were headed to our breakfast at Kona Cafe. Neither of us had been here in FOUR YEARS! How does that even happen?
I love it in here. Suddenly we are immersed in Hawaiianness. That's what I love about Disney World - the feeling and vibe could not be more different than last night at the Sci-Fi Drive-In and then in Old Hollywood. Not to mention, it was totally different from the different worlds we'd be immersed in later on in the day. Disney takes you to so many places all within one 47-square-mile resort.
We had been a bit late for our ADR so we apologized and they were very gracious, did not mind at all. They seated us immediately and it was nice and quiet as the restaurant was starting to empty out.
I of course already knew what I would be ordering: THE BIG KAHUNA!!!!!!!
French toast, Macadamia-Pineapple pancakes, eggs, home fried potatoes, ham, bacon, and sausage. It was AMAZING!! I never eat anything near this amount at breakfast but I totally demolished that plate! I asked for no pineapple to come with this, but the macadamia butter was to die for!
Mom, the coffee addict, ordered a pressed pot of Kona Coffee which we shared. BEST COFFEE EVER. Starbucks should be ashamed!
For her meal she ordered the Two Eggs Your Way:
My favorite juice in the world is Frunch Juice, aka Jungle Juice, which they have at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. I first had it at Boma one morning in 2006 and I knew then I would have to come back to this restaurant on every trip. On my solo trip in 2008, I booked Boma soley for this reason. I mean, the breakfast buffet is GREAT otherwise and I love the restaurant and AKL, but I probably would have picked another breakfast just to try a new one had it not been for the Frunch. It's just that good!
Originally I was drinking water and the Kona coffee, then I realized that we were at a place that has Hawaiian and exotic-ish food and drinks, so I asked the waitress if they had any special juice. She told me they did, and explained what was in it. I can't remember exactly what she said, but I knew it sounded GOOD! So I ordered a glass and it was DELICIOUS! A bit different from Frunch, but very similar and still AMAZING! I will be ordering this every time! Between that and the great Kona Coffee, Kona Cafe wins for best drinks at WDW!
My fab drinks:
After our fantastic meal at Kona, we knew what we wanted to do - RELAX! The Poly beach is one of our favorite spots at WDW and we always take the time to savor the moment there and just chill.
Before we headed down to the beach, we checked out some of the shops near Kona and made a restroom stop. The bathrooms are right across from Ohana and I gazed lovingly at the restaurant we unfortunately would not be visiting on this trip! I know, the humanity, right?
The shops had a TON of amazing kitchen stuff and all of it was on sale. One day, I am going to have a Disney kitchen and a Disney bathroom and everyone is going to totally love it. You mark my words. My mom was reading a cookbook and discovered the recipe for Strawberry Soup! The look on her face was hilarious. Boy was she excited. Since then I've told her about the huge WDW recipe list on AllEars, and we visit it often, trust me! We also have made the Wolfgang Puck Four Cheese Pesto Pizza (got the recipe from his site, not AllEars) that we ate on Day 1 of this trip, and it was no where near as good as at WPE, unfortunately! But the WDW recipes certainly keep me going in between trips.
Anyway, back to the Poly!
We were ready to head down to the beach. As we were walking down the stairs, this adorable father was showing his adorable son the hidden mickeys in the bamboo sticks - frequent Poly visitors know what I mean (Kara, i'm looking at you here!!) and this little boy who couldn't have been more than four was just so amazed and loving it. Cutest thing ever.
We walked outside, past the glorious pool and down to the beach. We sat on one of the swings and took in the beautiful view. While swinging, of course. I mean, if you're going to take up a swing you need to use it!
I took pictures of our beautiful surroundings:
We took this time to just slow down and reflect on what had already happened. I think it's really important to have mornings like this, especially when there are so many hectic ones at Disney. So much happens while you're here, it's like your life is in overdrive. You see and do so much more in just a few hours than you do in days at home. It's necessary to stop and take a breath every once in awhile. I highly suggest taking your breaths at the Poly. Not just because of the beauty, but also the Disney Dirty Water Smell!!!!
I walked up and down the beach a bit and wrote my name in the sand. After I went back to sit on the swing, a little girl was walking just where I had been and was trying to figure out what was written in the sand. She called her mom and brother over who told her it said Lia. It was so cute and watching the whole thing made my mom and I crack up.
More Poly pics:
As much as I love chillin' at the Poly, I was itching to get to the park that makes my sense of discovery go wild, the park that I had always loved but DOMINATED my last trip: EPCOT!
Up next: Epcotting Future World Style.
