Day 3, Part 2 Epcot's Turn To Be Drowned In My Happy and Nostalgic Tears
Ah, Epcot. I've always loved it here but I truly gained a larger appreciation for it on my last trip. My solo trip, which I affectionatley refer to as "The Solo Mess 2008", was DOMINATED by Epcot. This may or may not have to do with the Food and Wine Festival.
Seriously though, it wasn't just that. I spent a TON of time in Future World too. I only went to the Magic Kingdom once. On my arrival day. I kept meaning to go back but EPCOT was calling my name. I think I spent like 6 hours at Animal Kingdom total. I missed the Nemo and Lion King shows there. and the Safari. And missed Spectro and Wishes at MK. I'd seen all these things in the past (except the Nemo show!) but really wanted to see them again. But my heart was just stuck in Epcot I guess!
SO, back to this trip.
I didn't take any pictures of the front of the park, this is the first Epcot picture I have:
I loved this little guy!
Pretty, pretty flowers
We went to the Land first to get Fastpasses for Soarin' - but they were for much later and we weren't sure if they'd interfere with our ADR or not. I knew we'd just give them to someone else to use if we couldn't. I wanted to do the other attractions at the Land but I was too excited, just DYING to get to my favorite Epcot attraction, The Seas With Nemo and Friends.
I'm so obsessed with this, seriously. During the Solo Mess was my first visit to it since it changed from The Living Seas to The Seas With Nemo and Friends. Even though I am a huge Finding Nemo fan, I was kind of nervous about this because I loved how The Living Seas was before. Not only is it ten times better than The Living Seas, but it's now my favorite attraction in Future World. On my solo trip, I spent hours upon hours UPON HOURS here. Between that and the Food and Wine Festival, i'm surprised I saw anything else at Disney World at all. I saw Turtle Talk With Crush four times. Yeah, four. I was AMAZED by it. And amused. THOROUGHLY. Because it's absolutely hysterical, genius, and too much fun. If that had been around when I was a child, there would have been claw marks on the floor from where they had to drag me out of there. AND THE SEA LIFE! The amount of time I spend at each little tank watching the various sea creatures is just ridiculous.
I told you, i'm a details person. Some people go commando and hit all the major ish. I can be found at The Seas, talking to a seahorse. That's just who I am.
But, I must say, my FAVORITE part of The Seas With Nemo and Friends is the Nemo ride. I think this was done perfectly. I love every little section of it. And every SECOND of it. Oh my God, please don't even ask me why but it makes me cry! It just reminds me of my childhood SO much, which is odd because Finding Nemo didn't even come out until I was 13, and the ride doesn't remind me of then, it reminds me of when I was LITTLE! It just evokes this Classic Disney feeling in me and makes me so emotional! It lets me know that no matter how old I get, I can still get *THAT FEELING* from something Disney, and not something that I went on when I was four like Small World or Peter Pan - something brand new. That even in my crazy life that puts me through a lot more than i'd like, being affected by everything and knowing that i'm an adult now and having responsibilites, I can still come to Disney World and get on a new ride and feel like I am a little girl experiencing it with innocent eyes. This feeling, my friends, is priceless.
I knew my mom would love the new and improved Seas too because as a child she wanted to be a marine biologist. However, she was also skeptical cause she loved the old Living Seas just like me. She loves Finding Nemo too though, and I had told her, and described everything AT LENGTH about this pavilion so she was excited just based off of MY excitement for this place.
While on the Nemo ride, I was crying of course, and when we got to the part where you can see the Nemo characters swimming with the real dolphins and/or sharks, she said "Wooooooooooooooow" in this amazed, childlike way, and I knew she felt the same way I did about this attraction.
I was very sad to leave our clammobile as I wanted to ride ten more times, but I knew there was much more to see here and I couldn't wait for my mom to experience Turtle Talk With Crush. First though, we decided to check out all the tanks which took about 45 minutes to an hour. I told you, we just LOVE this place!
We enjoyed the blowfish (No sign of Hootie, heh heh.)
I find seahorses absolutely fascinating
I could watch them swim around all day! In the future, when I am an eccentric billionaire, I will buy these to put in my study. No idea why i'll need a "study", but I feel like rich people in movies always have one, and movies are where I get all my information.
Jaques
We always see tons of Horseshoe Crabs at the beach near where I live, but i've never seen a baby before
Nemo and Marlin
We even watched these guys for, like, ever:
We spent lots of time looking at all this marine life and more, but nothing compared to our obsession with the Frogfish.
This is one of them, but he is not the star.
This guy is!!!!!!!!!!!!
Again, I can not explain this, but my mom and I were seriously parked in front of this guy for about 15-20 minutes. Minimum. I'm not kidding. First of all, what the F am I even looking at here? This is a fish? It's not swimming. It's just kind of sitting there on it's .... legs? Fish don't have legs. I hate to tell you, whoever found this creature, but fish do not have legs! Apparently i'm wrong. They do. Anytime this fish(?) would move it was like an event for my mom and I. He (I'm assuming it's a boy fish. Really, we had no idea but he looks mannish so there you go. Sorry to the fish if you are a lady) sort of swam, but it was more like this magical form of hopping/floating. And he didn't go very far. I would be absolutely BEYOND FASCINATED to see this guy move around in a huge tank, what he would do, where he would go. I also want to see how he eats and what he eats. My mom and I discussed all of this and more, we had so many questions about him but there didn't seem to be anyone around to ask.
I mean, LOOK AT HIS EYE? And WHAT IS THAT THING COMING OUT OF HIS HEAD? AND HOW WEIRD THAT HE HAS THOSE TWO "LEGS" IN THE MIDDLE AND THEN BIGGER OUTER "LEGS". DEAR GOD, WHAT IS THIS CREATION? EXPLAIN IT TO ME!!!
This is maybe boring to you guys but I am going to continue to discuss the Frogfish. Please skip this if you are not fascinated by it. Now, this is hard to explain but he had various kinds of gills all over his body. Of various sizes. And shapes. Some TINY!! Sometimes thingies would pop out of little holes in his body and pulsate, and then hide back in. It was insane!!! We just stood there and stared at this thing for the longest time and suddenly we'd notice some other crazy detail on him and alerted each other and just marveled at the wonder that is nature! When you think about things like this and all the millions of different creatures in our world, so many yet to even be discovered... it's truly MIND BOGGLING! I mean, no one has ever been to the true bottom of the ocean, it is too deep. No one has ever seen it and no one will ever see it! DOESN'T THAT BLOW YOUR MIND?!
We named this guy many different things and of course would return to say hi to him later on in the trip. I miss this fish and I want to purchase one. I've heard of people buying exotic fish for thousands of dollars and I always thought, "Honestly, how rich do you have to be before you willingly blow a few grand on a freaking FISH?" But now I UNDERSTAND! Someone please tell me how I can get a Frogfish. Can you send away for them? Is there some weird crazy billionaires pet store like on 30 Rock where I can purchase one? I NEED ONE.
Moving on.
BUT I MEAN LOOK AT THAT REDNESS ON THE TOP OF HIS WEIRD HORN THING!! THAT WAS PULSATING TOO!! Doesn't he look annoyed? Can fish be annoyed? I don't even.... I can't.
Ok, moving ON. We went to go watch Turtle Talk and I waited near the Stingray tank where an adorable chubby little boy who was fascinated by them started talking to me. I love when kids are just so into something like this that they have to know everything about it and tell everyone about it. He was telling me something about the way it was just swimming and how cool it was and I still had a couple of funny pictures on my camera from my previous trip (you know that show Hoarders? That's what my camera memory card is like), so I showed him and he was like "WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
These are the pictures I showed him:
Weeeeeee! Every time I see this it makes me think of the line from the Nemo ride,
"Look, Mr. Ray! Here comes Nemo!" Which obviously makes me tear up.
Mr. Ray looks really happy here, right? Kind of? Glad to see me?
SUDDENLY ANNOYED! Guess he doesn't like having his picture taken. Reminds me of when you see Leo DiCaprio coming out of a club with his jacket zipped up his throat and hat covering his face. Darling, we know it's you! And that's my opinion on... that.
They opened the doors and we headed in. It was a great show but not the best I have seen at Turtle Talk. I wish I had taken more notes of the details (I for sure will be taking a tooon more notes next trip), but my mom was amazed. We walked out of there with her saying "That. Was. INCREDIBLE! When you explained it to me before I kind of didn't get it cause I thought, 'How could they do that?' but they did it! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!"
That's the kind of reaction I love!
We were going to head upstairs, but since we had been in there for like an hour and a half, we decided we'd save that for another day.
Up Next: More Future Worlding, Lunch, and the great Le Cellier saga~*~
