The Math and Annual Passes?

We are going to DW on 12/26 through 12/30. And we have just booked two weeks in a studio in August!

Does it pay to get the Annual Pass then? For some reason the math is eluding me?

Also, what if some sort of emergency crops up between the New Year and August that could force me to cancel the August vacation? Would I be able to somehow recoup the money I put out?

Thanks!

You are going close to 20 days total, an AP would be cheaper than two MYW passes.

An AP is non-refundable, if you can't go in August you wouldn't be able to get anything back.

Definitely an AP. You should think about the PAP too. It will be hot in August and you may want to go to a water park or get inside disneyquest. Just a thought. You will definitely get off cheaper with either AP

You may find it cheaper to buy a 10 day MYW ticket without an expiration date. I bought AP's for DD and I for a trip back in September. We only spent a few hours in the parks each day and didn't do any park hopping (first trip with a pre-schooler...way different pace from what DH and I are used to).

Anyway, even though we're going again in May, I still found that it would have been cheaper to purchase a 10 day ticket with no park hopping privilges and no expiration for around $33/day. Our AP, even with a substantial discount, is costing us more becuase I won't be going a total of 10 days.

Wish I had done the math better before purchasing.

Another thought...buy the MYW w/o expiration, then buy an AP before your August trip so you'll be sure to use it. With two weeks at WDW, it's really your best option.

One thing to consider is when your next vacation (after Aug) will occur. If it is later than December 07, but before Aug 08... and if it is going to be another long vacation...then you are probably better off just getting a small MYM in December... and activating an AP in August for your next two trips.

To answer the question directly, here's the math (after tax):

DVC discounted Annual Pass: $355.71
MYW 10 day w/park-hopping & no expiration: $414 (best price)
MYW 10 day w/park-hopping (expires after 14 days): $265.00 (best price)

I always get my ticket prices fromAllEarsNet.com

There you go. Even without the DVC discount the AP is a better deal, assuming you make another trip prior to December 2007. Then there are the other advantages, like eligibility for the Disney Dining Experience program which will save you 20% off of most table service WDW restaurants (in our case paid for itself by the third meal.

Wow, 2 weeks in a studio in August. I'm jealous. Enjoy!

I thought when you bought an annual pass you got vouchers that were not activated until you entered the park. If that is correct then if you did not go on your trip the annual pass start date would be delayed until you go. You would also have protection from a price increase. Also if you are a DVC member you can get the discount. We time our trips so we buy an annual pass every other year and get two years of trips out of them. You should check with Disney to make sure I am correct.
