The man Cheney shots has had a heart attack

That's only 24 hours. I don't always find out that quickly that extended family members have given birth. :confused3

I don't find out family stuff too quickly either..........but is your extended family member the second highest political figure in the free world? ;)

People don't get charge with a crime for a hunting accident.

Probably not, and no facts here to suggest otherwise. But the Model Penal Code does provide for negligent or culpable homicide upon certain degrees of negligence,, one being if alcohol is involved. Likely can have the same thing for lesser injuries Again, not saying any of that happened here, but to merely say that no criminal charges can result from an accident is overbroad. (And Texas law plainly has its own provisions, no one which I know),

I would have to agree, if it weren't for the fact that Dick Cheney is the sitting Vice President of the United States. He is not a private citizen and the public has every right to know as soon as possible.
Why?

And I am not being sarcastic, but why would the public need to know this?

Would it affect his ability to be VP?

Perhaps his friend didn't want his personal medical problems splayed all over the TV news.

This is not true. This incident happened on Saturday, and the media didn't know until sometime on Sunday. Why? Suspiciously, I wonder if alcohol could have been involved? How long does it take for alcohol to exit the body?
Hmmm, and how would the media/citizens being aware of the accident sooner change any of the relevant facts? It's not like the media has the power to run an alcohol test on the VP.

And as for those of you self righteously wringing your hands with how this thread has taken partisanship to a new low? Well you obviously haven't been paying very good attention over the past say...forever years... :rotfl:

It is partisan. If Cheney had been anyone else and accidentally shot someone in a hunting accident, which does happen, it wouldn't even be newsworthy. Now some are trying to make it seem like he did it on purpose. It was his friend.

You want partisan, here you go. Maybe the media didn't find out about it until Sunday because they were examining a soiled blue dress and smoking cigars. :thumbsup2

These reasons make too much sense for several of the posters on this thread to understand!

PS: Love how alcohol suddenly appeared in this thread out of thin air! Give it a few pages and he will be drunk when it happened.

The fact that it has been done before does not excuse it or make it any less slimy.

Did I say that the comments on this thread were not partisian? Absolutely not! I said that it was hardly bringing the level of partisianship here on the DIS to a new low. Calm down, take a deep cleansing breath, and reread my post.

Now your blue dress comment however...ALL TIME new low, for sure!! :rotfl2:

ETA: Nice how you took the Clinton smear out of your very un-partisan post...please...good thing I quoted you so we have it down for the record...

oh please. What possible difference does it make when the public finds out? I hardly think that is an issue at all, except for the rabid media whose bread and butter is 24 hour overkill news coverage.
Great point. I am so sick of hearing the media giving minute to minute coverage on this. An accident happened. Time to let it go! As far as the Vice President feeling bad about what happened? I think that would be a given.

Of course the "media" can't run an alcohol test.......but the police (if they were notified right away) could have. It should have been done to avoid these questions.

This thread really takes partisanship to a new low.
It would have to go about a 100,000 feet lower to meet the average during the Clinton years

You have a point. Clinton is pretty low. :grouphug:

They most certainly do. If your actions cause harm, whether intentional or not, you can be charged. Note the difference between manslaughter and murder.

I'm sure some of the lawyers here could explain it better.

The incident was certainly newsworthy, and one would expect it to get a certain amount of coverage. Nothing partisan in that. But the time-lag carping and the alcohol angle, completely partisan and just your typical over-reaching by the Left and the Leftist MSM.

In this particular case, I say let 'em over-reach. It will surely backfire, as most of the time it does. Other than the minority who suffer from Bush Derangement Syndrome, the vast majority will feel sympathy for Cheney, even those who are predisposed to disagree with him politically.

Yep...low unemployment, low interest rates, low federal spending, lower defecit...need I go on?

Low class, low morals, low security. Sure you can go on. :clown:

Only if you're negligent. :)
