HI Guys,

I went to the Company Store to get some MAc brush cleaner at discount. Well theydid not have it so did I leave empty handed? NO! I got Clinique eye make up remover and then I got MEGA Rich pigment (sublte bronze) for the eyes and a cute compact with plums and purple eyeshadow. Cost...56.99 When I got out of the store my husband asked what it cost and ...I lied! I said I got the make up remover for 2o but I did not tell him about the other. Well I did not lie, I simply told him I was going in for make up remover and figured he wanted to know how much THAT cost. I mean he did not ask about other items...right? I guess I did not really LIE I guess I just misunderstood his question.

What do you all use to clean your brushes?? I am going to use baby shampoo. I have not been all that faithful to a regime to clean them but I have some new ones and I want to keep them cleaner. IN the past I just used soap and water.

Since I am new to having good brushes too, I didn't really know what to get. But I wound up getting a spray bottle of Ulta's Brush cleaner because it was the cheapest (honest, I don't work for Ulta, I'd rather go to Sephora, but Ulta is just waaaay closer). If you go to where they keep their professional brushes, it's right there with them. It cost me $10.50 and their coupons can be used for it. Once a week, I spray my brush with it and then lay flat to dry. DON'T put them standing up, with the bristles up, the cleaner will just seep back into the handle of the brush, causing the glue to disintergrate and bacteria to grow

I use johnson and johnson baby body wash. I use that sometimes to clean my face too, same as Purpose so why not. It comes in a huge bottle and works great.

Has anyone tried the Laura Geller makeup? Being stuck in the house while it thunders outside didn't give me much to do except spring clean and watch qvc.

Okay friends - I played with makeup this afternoon

I tried the Everyday Minerals samples I got last week. I watched a video on YouTube. Put a few drops of water to mix with concealer and applied that under eyes and where needed. Then put on base, as it came. It took quite a bit, IMO, to get it to even out but my face is blotchy. Then I put on some blush and powder over all of it.

I wasn't impressed when I finished but a few hours later, it seems to look better :confused3

But let me tell you I am SO impressed with the Lash Injection and Pin Point. The box had instructions for now to apply it to get a "false eyelash" look and my eyes look so good!! My lashes look a lot longer and my eyes look larger and brighter.

I haven't even opened the Smashbox halo stuff. I got an email witha coupon last night and I'm tempted to return it and repurchase. It did come with a free sample that I have used already so I don't know how that would work? :confused3

Hi! Glad you had fun with your EM makeup. I don't use that particular brand of mineral makeup (tried it and didn't are for it) but I use Aromaleigh and absolutely LOVE it. It gives a very soft and dewy appearance unlike some of the others IMO. I did learn that if you put it on a little too heavy it can look somewhat powdery or chalky, instead apply several very light-handed layers - and you have to moisturize very well first. I find too that it does tend to look better after your natural oils have a chance to meld with the minerals.

Anyway, I'm fairly new to the whole makeup scene so my advice is probably not worth a ton, but if you still don't like it after a week, test out the other mineral mu companies. There are soooo many if you search.

Oh, and after struggling with acne and general "problem" skin for over half of my lifetime, yesterday I got my first "your skin is so beautiful" compliment. :confused3 It was new for me, but I liked it. ;)

Good luck, I hope you findone you like!!

THanks MPA,

One of the make up people on You Tube said she washes them in salt and baby shampoo to keep them from shedding....ah I don't know about the salt thing seems to me it is used to draw moisture from things and I would think it would degrade the handle and rust the ferrel(metal part that holds the hairs) on the brush. I never think of ULTA because I really hate the one near me and it is much much closer than Sephora but I will go there today since I need to go to Costco and it is in the same plaza.

Check out the BE infomercial, she shows you how to apply the make up. Also, check out You Tube(I just discovered it about two months ago lol) I know there must be a ton of mineral make up application tutorials.

Got my brush cleaner at ULTA but of course they did not have the Ulta brand so I needed to get the Smashbox brand which was 4.00 more. I could not use the coupon but the clerk did give me a free gift it was a multi color SB bronzer like a mulit color eye shadow. It is nice but the stripes of color are so narrow that there is no way I can use them other than to mix which is okay but not great.

The lady that did my Smashbox makeover said the bronzer is supposed to be used with all the lines - she used it on me and just ran the brush over it like it was a solid color.

After a dream about my really expensive Halo stuff purchase, I decided I need to just return it. :sad2: I'm going to give the minerals a good try instead.

But I am still LOVING the Lash Injection and am not regretting that purchase :thumbsup2

Oh, did you get the Smashbox bronzer in "Dusk"? I wanted that sample! But I couldn't find anything from Smashbox that I wanted to buy. I have the Softlights and love it, but that will last me forever and a day.

I have some Japonesque cleaner I got from ULTA (is that the same kind everyone's talking about?) but I wasn't crazy about it. The smell was really overwhelming and it had oily stuff in it. I've been using the Sephora kind, which I like much better. A makeup artist told me once though, that baby shampoo is just as good, especially for natural brushes. I have not been very good about cleaning mine either...they need a good washing this weekend.

Also, make sure you reshape your brushes after you wash and blot them dry.

GOOD MORNING QUEENS!!! :wave2:

YUP, I love LG!! Found her as well on QVC years ago. I will say the only thing I have of her's is the "Balance N'Brighten"!! Love that make-up. Goes on easily, looks awesome and lasts all day. I have looked at her website and Sephora...the prices on QVC beat them both. So if you like anything she has...buy it from QVC. The BNB comes with a fab brush if you buy it through QVC...it is not included online...you have to pay more.

Hi all,

I think I posted a while back about cleaning brushes, but I will post again for those who may be looking for some guidance. Use a good brush cleaner each day after you use your brushes (I like MAC brush cleaner because it works well dries pretty quickly, too). Use a baby shampoo to wash your brushes about once a week-ish.

Pour a little bit of baby shampoo (I use Johnson's) in one hand, and grab a couple of brushes in the other (larger brushes you can do one at a time, smaller ones like eye shadow brushes you can do a few at once) and wet them under the faucet. Swirl them in your hand with the baby shampoo. Make sure to rinse them VERY well (leaving shampoo in can damage your brushes), then lay them all out flat to dry. It's important to to store them vertically when they are wet because water can get in the metal part of the brush and destroy it.

I wouldn't suggest washing your brushes more than once a week, but you should use brush cleaner everyday. When I worked at MAC, we had to wash our brushes every night at the end of our shift, but I wouldn't suggest that for the "at home" user. :flower3:

Hey where is Cathryn Rose? Have not seen her lately I am hoping that she is at the hair show taking photos of all the new make up and hair items.

I just washed all my brushes yesterday and let me tell you there were a ton of them. Most of they were not dry this morning so I had to make due. I used baby shampoo after I used the brush cleaner because I had not cleaned them before. I used to just dump them when they got really dirty and filled with make up. Now that I have decent ones I do not do that anymore.

Yes, where is Cathryn? I hope she's off getting some good tips!

Let's talk eyes: Anyone know any good tips for creating the perfect smokey eye look?

Thanks so much for posting this. I just bought some more brushes from Nordstrom. I got some Bobbi Brown and MAC. And I got some Too Faced brushes last week. I want to take good of them.

Some pictures would be nice too! :goodvibes

So I have spent a boatload of money since this thread started. I need nothing, especially after buying these brushes. After I submitted my order, I said, "OK time to take a break for a while." And I get up and check my mail and what do I get? An invitation to a Mary Kay party :headache: Any suggestions? The girl that is hosting the party is real sweet and I do love going to these type parties, talking with friends, and playing with makeup even if it is a brand I don't love. My mom said that their eye makeup remover is the best she ever tried so I have that on my list. Anybody have any other ideas???

Let's talk eyes: Anyone know any good tips for creating the perfect smokey eye look?

Here is what I do:

I start with a light shade, close to my skin tone or maybe a little darker. This goes on the lid and the upper part of the eyelid (between my crease and just below the eyebrow, leaving a little space just below the brow). Then I use a medium to dark brown on my crease and on the outer portion of the eye, gradually lightening the further in I go. I use a taupe shade to blend further in from the brown to the light shade. My goal is to ever so gradually blend so you can't really tell where one color stops and the other begins. So the inner half of my eye is the lighter shade, gradually darkening to the darkest color at the corner and in the crease. I put white or a very light shadow just under my brow. I then line with a dark brown or black, smudged a bit.

I love this look and think it works well my with my eye shape. I use basically the same technique day or night, I just vary the intensity of the color, using a lighter color for day. Also, for day I usually skip the intermediate color, just do the crease and outer corner and blend that into the base color. I get lots of compliments on my eye makeup, though! :)

Anyway, I hope this makes sense. I'm lousy at trying to explain things like this.

I had a neighbor who sold Mary Kay and I didn't care at all for the skin care products or the mascara (horrible!). But I did like the lipstick (I'm not picky at all when it comes to lipstick - basically if I like the color and it doesn't have the taste and consistency of wax, I'll wear it). The eyeshadow was good, too, IIRC. The prices are actually very reasonable considering most of the home-party stuff you see is horribly overpriced for what you get.

Oh, one other thing regarding eyes (can you tell this is my favorite make-up topic?) . Sometimes when I line my eyes, I will line very close - actually almost INTO the upper lashline. When I do this, you can't really even see the liner at all when looking from the side - or even from the front for that matter, but it really accentuates the eyes and makes them pop out. I think it gives results comparable to the 'tightlining' technique without having to line the underside of the eyes - I have a REALLY hard time with that. :scared:

Yeah, I gave up on the tightlining. I got it really good, but it took 3 DAYS for all the liner to get out of my eyes! :scared: I would try to wash it out every night, but still woke up the next morning looking like a strung out rock star from the 80's. Not very pretty. Now I just line really close to the lash line, like you said.

A PP asked a few posts back what eyeshadow everyone recommended and I didn't respond because I really don't make a fuss over eyeshadow. I usually go with just one color over my whole eye. But I have to say that I love the Ulta brand eyeshadow. :lovestruc I put it on over Too Faced Shadow Insurance and it goes on soft and lasts all day. I have it in "Cameo" (my favorite), "Iconic" and "Burmuda Sand" (I have brown eyes). Iconic and B Sand look a lot alike, even though they don't look like it in the pan. They are $7 apiece and they have BOGO FREE sales all the time. You can buy four colors, and use the $3.50 coupon and get them for $10.50.

On another subject, what is with beautycrunch??? I ordered one whole week ago and paid eight flippin dollars for shipping and I just got off the phone with UPS and was told that my shippment is "on time" for delivery on April 2! Ugh! I should know better than to order online. I don't have the patience for it. :headache:

So terribly busy at work.

This is a drive by *hi*.

Hair show was fun. Saw Nick Arroggo and Kim Vo.

Ummm.... got a big old thing of Moroccan Oil (a set) with all kinds of stuff in it. Ill have to look at it better.

All in all - it was wonderful, but Im too busy to update right now. Im sorry.

Ill try and check in tonight.

Im glad everyone is still here. :)

I must say the down side to beauty crunch is that they do take a long time for the items to arrive. That is why I went and got make up at the Company Store just to tide me over. I too have spent a boat load of money on make
but I also have a friend who buys tons of the good stuff and then never uses it and gives it to me. She gave me a Laura Mercier powder/cream shadow (one side powder one side cream) in gold the other day. This summer she must have given me about 1000 worth of make up she never used still in the boxes....Dior, Givinchy, Shu Urimia(sp) , Mac ....I could go on and on..and she gave me a huge make up case too. I look at those collections that the people send in to beauty crunch and I laugh. I really have too much and I could never use it all but I keep buying more. I told you guys I was an addict. I think it is because my mother would never let me get make up when I was younger so now I just go wild. I am going to try and suspend buying make up for the next two months. I pray that BC does not have another sale although I did resist the Too Faced sale. Ifilled my cart three times and then did not buy it. LOL
