Thanks :)
I wanted to note two products that I saw on QVC that, if I did have hair loss or thinning, I give a try. One is a cream type temporary color product applied with a brush which is supposed to color the scalp a bit to reduce the scalp show through. The other is the same type of product from Joan Rivers that is a powder applied also with a brush and the demo of this was impressive. Both claim to not run in sweat or rain. Go to qvc.com and search for hair color and I'm sure you'd find them. QVC has a 30 day unconditional money back guarantee (they'll refund the original shipping too) so it might be worth trying.

Good luck!

Thanks I'll go look at that today........

They're probably not as above your skill level as you think. Do you use makeup brushes to apply product (as opposed to those silly little spongy things)? If you already use brushes, then that's half the battle right there...

The best way to use pigments is by working the product into the brush (don't be scared). When you take the top off the jar, there will be some product in the top. Most times, that will be all you need to use. For more controlled application, use a brush like MAC #224 brush or MAC #217 (or some equivalent from another line). Work the product into the brush by swirling it around in the top a few times. Once the product is completely worked in, you shouldn't really be able to see it much in the brush (it shouldn't still be sitting on top of the brush). Then, apply as you normally would with any other eyeshadow.

For a more dramatic (but trickier to master) look, use a flatter brush like MAC #239, and apply the pigment to one side of the brush (don't work it into the bristles). Use this method for smokey eyes by applying product from lash line to just below crease, and use a blending brush to blend in the lighter colors from crease to brow bone.

One of these days I'll post some pics of these methods and results, so you can have a better understanding of what I mean (in case my descriptions aren't clear).
:flower3:

OMGosh....you might as well have wrote that in chinese for me!!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: - I just bought my FIRST set of brushes yesterday!:confused3 I need help I know

I love pigments - I dont think theyre hard to use.

I love that you can really build them up, if you want.

:)

Thanks :)

If you've been using the sponge-tip applicator you are going to find the brushes so much easier to use. You have much more control over where the shadow goes and it's not as cumbersome. Plus, you will get a more even, finished look. Be sure to use a eyeshadow primer though, otherwise your makeup will wind up everywhere but on your lids! :rotfl2:

Agreed - brushes are easier.

But you know, I never used a primer until I started using mineral makeup. Liquid makeup seemed to always work as a primer for me. *shrug*

I know this is a makeup thread...but we've talked hair.... can we talk jeans?

I really like Apple Bottom - BUT theyre not a nice boot cut, straight leg - like I would like. I'd like a nice trouser jean, but I have a round butt.

Has anyone tried the Gap Curvy? I have wanted to try them for a long time, but they never had a color I liked - and now they do:

http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=12099&pid=488676

KIMR - OT, but.... we never VAX'd our indoor cats.

We lived in a 3rd floor loft - the cats never ever ever went out, ever.

And can I tell you - one of the cats we got when I was about 9-ish - and just died a couple years ago (and Im 35)

I think I have just the regular boot cut - what's the difference between the fit in the regular and curvy?

Also, have you tried Delia's jeans? I know it's a store for teens, but they are about half the price of gap and I love the way they fit. Since you have boys, you may have to borrow a friend's daughter so you won't feel odd shopping there, though! :rotfl2:

:o Actually, I just started buying some cheap brushes to get the hand of using them. I bought some of Ulta's brand make-up (which, I'm pretty impressed with so far) and I got the little makeup kit free and it had some really cheap brushes in it, so I'm getting the hang of it.

I thought about getting the MAC skunk brush because thats what they are recommend for the NARS blushes, but $42 for a brush! :scared1: I don't know. Is it worth the money?? Can you recommend nice, not too expensive brushes, and which ones to start out with?

Oh speaking of brushes. When I'm at Ulta or Sephora, I HAVE to run my hand over the Too Faced Kabuki brush. I can't resist. They call their brushes "Teddy Bear Hair" and they are SooooPER soft:cloud9: :lovestruc What do the queens think of those brushes? Good? Worth it?

Agreed - brushes are easier.

I use liquid foundation. I use Ulta's brand. Again, I have to say I am very impressed with it. Maybe that's why I haven't noticed much difference with my (cheap, Revlon brand) primer. My mom wears bare minerals, maybe I'll give her the primer.

Now Jeans. I don't skimp on jeans because I wear just about everything with my jeans. I wear them every day so I want them to look nice.

My favorite casual jeans are Gap "Long and Lean" jeans. I have four pairs. I live in them. I have them on now. Then I have a pair of David Kahn, "Lauren" jeans for when I wear heals and want to still wear jeans but dress it up a small notch. I love how they make my legs look. I bought them about 3 years ago when I was still married and had extra money. I take good care of them and they still look nice, but I've lost about 30 pounds since I bought them and I'd love to splurge on another pair. I don't know, maybe if I can stop blowing all my money on make-up and when the tax refund comes, maybe I will have to stop at Nordstroms and pick up a new pair.

I had a cat, my beloved Sandy, that I got when I was 4 and we had to put him to sleep when he was 21. :sad1: My ex husband made me dig up my cat...but that's a whole other story!

YES!!! It's definitely worth the money! When you use it for applying foundations, it makes your face look totally smooth and airbrushed...

BUT... I'll let you in a little secret... Kohls' cosmetic line "Flirt", carries a brush that is a pretty good dupe (not an exact match, but definitely gets the job done). And it costs about $10-$12 (at least the last time I was in there... which admittedly has been a while). I actually caught a sale at Kohls a few years ago and they had a buy one get one free sale on their brushes. So I got two! I use one for bronzer and one for blush. I use a "real" MAC skunk brush for liquid and cream foundation. I also got a brush that is a great dupe for the MAC #217 that I spoke about earlier. I think Kohls calls it "eyeshadow brush" :rotfl: (no fancy names there).

Anyway, it's worth checking out if you are near a Kohls (like I said, this was a couple years ago when I purchased the brushes, I assume they still sell cosmetics...).

This is good to know - thanks!

The brushes I have are by a few different companies - keeping in mind, I can get 'salon' stuff, at wholesale prices.

I have Aveda brushes that I have literally had for over 10 years. Theyre marvelous - and have help up ridiculously well.

I have some Sephora brushes (when they changed what their brushes looked like, so they clearanced out the old looking ones)

And then a mish mosh of others. I have a the kabuki by Everyday Minerals - but I like it. I will say - the little itty bitty mini free kabuki they gave away at ULTA as a sample is REALLy nice (for being so small, too) and I love that one for my purse.

Thanks for the heads up on those brushes!!

CathrynRose the brushes from EM which ones should I get? I heard a lot of good things about the flat brush but as far as anything else :confused3 but keep in mind i have a lot of brushes from BM as well. thanks :goodvibes

If you dont 'need' brushes - dont get them from there.

I got a kabuki - that I like, but it's not the best brush in the universe, or anything.

I did get an liquid eyeliner brush (they no longer have) that is my favorite.

now see the eyeliner brush i got from BM is ok is that one better? and is there one that is better since they don't have that one anymore? thanks sorry to be asking so many questions i don't have much experience with brushes :goodvibes

When my friends' cousin offered to give me a set of Cose brushes from Mario...I said SURE! So I've just got what she gave me...they're a heck of a lot better than the sponge tip stuff I was using....but i'll have to look at kohls the next time I"m there...

As for jeans...sorry Cat, I'm no help there.....I still haven't found a pair I really liked....although I did buy a pair of "Not your daughters" off ebay last year...& I do like the leg on them...just don't like the tummy part..

I'll have to stop into Kohls. There's one not far from my Ulta. I'm never there because I've never been impressed with the quality of their clothes. My mom loves the place though.

No one said anything about the Too Faced brushes. Did anyone try them? They are incredibly soft. But that's the only thing I know about them.

Now, if I invest in some quality brushes, I'll have to take care of them. What do you use?

I got an email from Sephora today. My order shipped! :woohoo: I'll have it Monday.

Now, like I said a while back, I am studying to become a Surgical Technologist, someone who helps out in the operating room. Well, Monday I am going to start a clinical rotation for a plastic surgeon. I went to his office today for an orientation. They do lasers, microdermabrasion, skin resurfacing, botox, all kinds of stuff. In the waiting area I saw a case with Jane Iredale brand makeup. I was like a wide eyed child looking in a french pastry shop window looking at everything. I saw something for thicker eyelashes. Every person who works there has skin like porcelain. This is a whole new world to me. I'm scared it's going to awaken a whole new beast. :scared:

MAC Brush cleaner is a really good brush cleaner. And you should use baby shampoo once everyweek or two to clean your brushes. Brush cleaner everyday after use. Baby shampoo every week or two. Just squirt a little shampoo in your hand, wet the brushes, then swirl them around in the palm of your hand. Make sure you rinse them really well, and lay them out flat to dry.

Re: Jane Iredale... I managed a hair salon (and was also the Makeup Artist there) that used Iredale. It's decent products, but pricey. I found that in working with it, the foundations worked better with "non-ethnic" skin colors. I have a few of their shadows, and their liners and mascaras are pretty good. Not a fan of their lipsticks either, but love their lip glosses, and they make this powder called "Moonglow" Use it with a very light hand and it gives a reeeallly beautiful glow.

Can I just say thank you, thank you, thank you. So I was feeling a little down about myself. I just turned 34 and have wrinkles in the forehead area so I was wondering about getting Botox. I'm reasonably attractive but I could never get my makeup to look like I wanted it to. Especially my eyes. This thread has sparked my interest in my makeup and I feel 100% better about my looks...without the Botox ;) There have been so many great tips. I've gotten so many compliments on my eye makeup this week now that I'm trying some new things. You guys are all awesome!
First of all I discovered www.makeupgeek.com This girl is wonderful and gives great tutorials. Better brushes have made a huge difference. I've gotten a few Sonia Kashuk ones which are working very well but I still may like to try a MAC brush. A little tip which I haven't tried but I'd like to....I saw online where people are buying brushes (Loew Cornell) at Michael's (craftstore). The brushes are for painting but are apparently a lot like MAC brushes for A LOT less. Here's some info on youtube...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpAjUfsswHo Also, I'm shocked with the difference that an eyeshadow primer makes!!! I LOVE Too Faced Shadow Insurance. Love, love, love it!!! I also discovered the L'Oreal HiP eyeshadows which I really like. Anyway, those are some things that are helping me now. Thanks for all of your advice!

YAY!!!!!!! :yay: :yay: :yay:

Ive heard artists brushes are great, as well as that Sonia brand too!!

And I agree - shadow primer is just something else. I never would have known, had I not tried it one day, what a difference it makes!!!! :thumbsup2

FOREHEAD WRINKLES: Have you tried the Neutrogena Facial Rejuvenator (or something like that?)

My husband heard me say "I need that" in jest, when the commercial was on, right before Christmas. So when Christmas rolled around, I unwrapped one of those (with the receipt attached - Im NOTORIOUS for returning)

It was almost $40!!! For this Neutrogena thing... I was like 'no way, Im taking this back' - but I REALLY wanted it. SO my whole family was like - would you just KEEP it?!?! You ALWAYS do that!!

So, I kept it - and fell madly in love!!! :lovestruc

I bought it for that 'fresh, glowing skin' I wanted to freshen it up - KWIM? But now 2 months later - the forehead lines and wrinkles are close to disappeared!!! That thing rocks my world!!! :thumbsup2

Ok, so far I am looking for

Smashbox foundation for Miss Park Avenue
Smashbox Buxom lipgloss and brushes for Cathryn
Blush brush and all over brush for Kimmie.

I will get the list at 9pm tomorrow night (Eastern) so if anyone else has a request, I will take a look. I cannot guarantee anything, but I will look!

Also, Cathryn asked about what kind of Philosophy stuff. Gosh, all kinds. The 3 in one stuff a lot, and lots of different kinds.

Ya'll have a great night!

GUESS WHAT LADIES?!?!?!?!

Looks like most of what you were looking for I can get. I put my order in tonight, and I will find out in the morning if I can pick it up this weekend. Please PM me if you are still interested, and I will let you know what I ordered, but it looks like what I quoted above I ordered.

Also, please let me know specifically what kind of Philosophy stuff you like if you are interested, cuz there's a bunch out there. Sometimes my friend puts out a "Sale" the morning after the list, so it's not too late to get stuff. LOTS of Bare Minerals and Philosophy this list.

JUST LEMME KNOW!!

Aww - thank you so much. We absolutely love him. I look at him everyday and know how blessed I am.

Can I tell you (cuz I think you'll get where Im coming from) I'm so bummed my mom never got to 'meet' him - cuz he is just SO great. And she was a HUGE animal lover.

Honestly - out of all the products out there, Nioxin is the best for this (when are you gone? which dates? Im going to the Chicago hair show on the 29th, and Nioxin always has a booth - we could pick up a nice set for you, for cheap)

Have you ever tried Matrix Amplify's line, though? I can REALLY get my hair 'bigger' when I use that stuff. Maybe alternate. Their root lift is sent from Jesus, himself - I know it. ;)

Again - I adore TOO Faced's Snow Bunny and Pink Leopard. :) Go try them out in the store.... youll like them.

I have used Nioxin and Amplify and Nioxin is better IMHO. My sister got the huge bottle with the scalp treatment for 20.00 at Wal Mart! I got two of them.

BTW...My make up finally shipped yesterday. Catherine Rose, we ordered about the same time but yours shipped more than a day earlier than mine. Let me know when yours arrives my UPS tracking number says it will arrive on 3/10....I saw the site was up but I did not get an e mail and I was upset!
I saw that huge set of Too FAced or was it Stila which sold for 75 and they were selling for 25 but it was sold out. I can tell this is a really addictive site for me.
