The Maelstromers... a FASTPASS! Part 3

We need a little respite and I was going to do this yesterday, but life got in the way.

Raise your hands if you have ever been to the Jersey shore. OK, raise your hand if you have ever been to a beach. Much better. Well the Jersey shore is a hopping place during the summer. Not so much during the off season. We went to the beach on Thursday. Beautiful sunny day, around 75. My dear friend, Pooh, asked me to soak up some sun for her. There were 100’s of parking places. Two guys surfing and a few people walking on the promenade, that was it. DH and I had lunch at one of my favorite places. I had a crab cake, hummm, and he had a burger and fries. Me iced tea, him a beer. Life was beautiful.

Background info – I don’t tan well. More like a lot of freckles that eventually run together. It takes all summer and is never really good. I am a fan of 45 sun block, it is my friend. I am also a big fan of denim. LOVE, LOVE my Levis and a denim shirt. I am a simple gal, very low maintenance. Want to go somewhere, I am ready in 10 minutes, including sitting in the car and waiting for whomever. Plus my car trunk is equipped for anything. ANYTHING. I was a girl scout – I am always prepared. I own a foodsaver, you know what they are, you watch infomercials. Actually we own 2. I am a little compulsive. You can put anything in those little bags, pack flat and come out fresh as a daisy. Love that thingy.

I am getting off track but you all expect that. This is why I can’t be on a sitcom; I am a mini series, or an epic. This is really a 45 minute experience. It will take me 3 ½ hours to tell it. More background info. This part is important. What we were wearing, really what I was wearing. DH – khaki shorts and a Big Dogs shirt, cause he is the Big Dog. It was the one that says”It’s 5 o’clock somewhere”, the button down the front one, not the t –shirt. He likes those shirts, a lot. Me – My favorite Levi’s – the well faded, fit like a glove ones. A denim shirt (kinda already knew that though didn’t you) and a bathing suit top underneath. Just in case the beach was empty and I could catch some rays. You will never see me in this outfit. That top is reserved for our pool or a beach in Europe, where people don’t know me. I am a middle aged woman. I don’t think people really want to see my skin. Just not appropriate. But I was living on the wild side. I do that sometimes.

More important info. I am really OK looking. Normal, no real glaring defects. Not beautiful, but attractive, in my own sort of way. In my younger days, many thought I was a Debra Winger look alike. You know her, from that cowboy movie with John Travolta, or an Officer and a Gentleman. Really, I am not kidding. Everybody thought so. Have you seen her lately? Everyone gets older. Enough of that.

Any way, once again I am OT. I am a long time married. Very secure in my own self. But, no one ever makes inappropriate advances at me. Well, no men really. But that is another story. Keep on track people, I am telling a story here. I think I wear a sign that says “Don’t bother”. Or they respect my hubby, even strangers. Who knows? Anyway, it just doesn’t happen. I am cool with that though. I think I am cute and who else really matters? Right?

Now, the purpose of all this is to let you know what happened at the beach on Thursday. Everybody still with me?

I will be back later to let you know.

I was too tired and upset to post anything meaningful last night. It is strange how upsetting yesterday was to so many of us, in a way. However, that being said, laughing and rapping with you all has been a truly wonderful experience for me, as it has been, I suspect for so many others. I have made some dear, dear friends. So it makes sense that one of our best buddies being hurt and leaving us would be so upsetting. I am very grateful for all of you. The written word pares down our complexity, and offers such a clear window into who we really are. I have gotten to "know" people here that I ordinarily never would, because of the judgements we make based on external labels, stereoptypes and assumptions and obviously that does not exist here. Sure some of us share who we are. Many of us have different lifestyles or views, however that is just a small part of what makes each one of us the type of person we are. This format transcends that obstacle and allows us to appreciate one another for the essence of who we are- our souls. There is a common thread here with most of us, we share similar philosophies about decency, respect, humanity and of course the use of humor as a means to brighten our days. Those are just a few of the character traits that I see in many of you and why I become so fond of so many of you.

Hauntie and I talked about her role in bringing the group together. She humbly said "You don't need me over there. I just broke the ice". Indeed she did, but she also continued to play a pivotal role in the life of this little community. Her loss represents a terrible void.

I too would be truly despondent if you do not return, Melly, you are my dear dear friend. I extend that to you too, Zoob. Apparently I missed you thrice last night at three different locations. I regret that, as I wanted to talk with you. Now you and Hauntie can email one another, which is great. However that medium will rob all of us of the witty raparte between you two that has been so delightful. So to honor that, you both need to stay here with us. Please. This little Horsey heart is very, very sad. It feels like the end of something truly special and I don't want to lose that. Please stop by and help us laugh and think and escape......

Zoob, your suggestion to Melly is a good one. I in essence had to that as the OT is what got me in trouble way back when, when I first arrived on that tr board and started meeting all of you. My story has lost some of its life, as I have to filter it, and cannot really pick up on or encourage the comments due to my own moderator restrictions. That takes away some of the inspiration. But I am determined to finish it. So Hauntie, reconsider. I respect you for not compromising. But come back here to this thread, at the very least. If it gets shut down, we will just open another one. Do not stay away for us. None of us want that. We can open 1000th threads, and name each one of them 1st happyhaunt, right up to 1000th happy haunt. So you see, you wouldn't be jeopardizing anything. And if this gets shut down, it wouldn't be the first thread closed.

Yesterday started and ended with a whole lot of maelstrom. Let's get back to our mission statement and move on! I am putting out the Spice girl results later. I will tell you now that Hauntie was of course Stalker Spice, in honor of her very special relationship with Zoob. But I am renaming you, Mel. You will be known as Stealth Stalker Spice. I have to believe that you are a little ghostie here, stopping by without us knowing, reading and laughing at all the silliness. and coming up with your own fabulous and crazy replies.......

Morning Maelstromers!

Fireworks last night were excellent! Although we didn't get cannons for the 1812 Overture this year, as that unit has been deployed to Iraq. Actually, it was good to know that those Kansas boys are there doing their suty, so that we could be here celebrating in our community. So it was still a FASTPASS!

I am off to church, where I will be volunteering in the baby nursery today.

Hugs and prayers to everyone that needs them, I'll let Him handle all of my shout-outs today!

Out for now...

hi guys!!!
good morning.

I am still here in NOWHERE MISSOURI...ready to go back to NOWHERE IOWA...
like yesterday

thank god for DSL...apparently they have it even in the most poverty stricken counties in the US.

Gotta love Capitalism.

I have no idea where I am going with this today.

I am just riding high on ZZUB's coment about love and love and love...and my name...and love....and DISNEY...I think???....and love and my name....

I want mel to do another TR here on the Dis.

Its the right place for it Mel. ITA with zzub and I agree. We can even start our very own thread for us where we can coment all we want about each others TR's WHENEVER we want.

I have no clue as to why people cannot respond to TR's on the thread. Its silly. Its just a thread. As a TR writer I can say those coments are what kept me going day after day...kept me from cooking, cleaning or bathing my kids for a whole week (of Spring break). It is most certainly a labor of love. And other people come to read, support and remember their own trips! I am very upset that I will not be able to fininsh reading Mels TR here on the Dis. I have lots to learn for my trip in August

and I want to learn from the best.

LYMI MEL!!! GO BLONDE POWER!!! (even if its in a bottle and expensive!!)\

OK....
this is a long post

I am bored

HI EVERYONE

You know, I don't think I can add anything to this thread that hasn't already been said more eloquently by ZZUB or Horsegirl or AshClan this morning. So let me just say this first...

ZZUB: You are awesome. You really are. Thanks for that post. You are funny as all get out, sweet, sincere, kind, and just an all around great guy. We all know it cause we see it in your posts. I am proud to call you my friend. Thanks so much for stopping by the spice shop yesterday and don't be such a stranger over there. We all love ya and get all happy when you come around. I think someone has said it before, it's kind of like you're our honorary Prom King. You did coin the phrase that we spout off at will, after all, did you not? If that doesn't earn you Prom King honors, I don't know what does. Which brings me to....

Our honorary Prom Queen.....

MEL. I know you're reading this. So go ahead and add me to the list of grovelers. Please stay. Please, please stay. Think about what ZZUB said.
Yall's repartees are just too funny to go without. Besides, you know no other place has the edit feature. And we all know how much you love that. So stay for us and the edit feature if for nothing else.

So here is your song for the day. From the Maelstromers....

Mel, we love you so
And we want you to know
That we're
Gonna miss your love
The minute you walk out that door
Please don't go
Don't gooooooooooo
Don't go away
Please don't go..

What? My elephant jokes didn't make you cry??

No, they made me laugh. And smile really goofy at my computer screen. Which is what we all need right now. After all, we are Maelstromers, dangit. That's what we do. Is it not?

MAELSTROM.....

I'm just saying- I love you guys. All of you are special to me.

Zzub, your way with words never ceases to amaze me :

We can't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Wow. That is a powerful line.

Horseygirl- Please don't be sad my sweet girl. It will work out for us all. We just have to keep on doing what we do. We loves you.

It is sunday and we have a Cub Scout year end party to go to, so I will not be around today.

Hugs all around. :grouphug:
