The Mad Chatters thread Part 5

Stop you??!! I was just getting ready to turn the crank to wind you up so that more ideas could come out! You really are gifted! Keep them rolling (as long as you are not sick of sharing that is). I am a geek. I could talk education for hours...and enjoy it.

I " :worship:" Paige's " "s!

Well, you can do word sorts. You have him write all his words down and then cut them all apart...........whole words, so he has all his words in front of him on small pieces of paper. Then you give him criterion for his word sort.......it could be, ough words and your criterion are f sound and long o sound. He draws a line down the middle of a contruction paper, labels it accordingly, and I like to give my kids the sound and let them write the Saxon code for it at the top...........then he sorts his words appropriately and pastes when he's satisfied with the sort. You can extend it by having him add two more to each side that he thinks of himself.

More?

Make him go in to the doctor...as much for you as for him!! YOU will feel so much better after he does!

How is he doing tonight? Any better at all?
He called the specialist's nurse to ask about the biopsy since he's taking ibuprofen..........I would've insisted, but he decided to himself..........she said she'd tell the dr. If he does go for the biopsy after all, his specialist will check him out thoroughly........he does anyway.

No better, now his throat is sore too................could be strep.........very dangerous for him.

Jay? Did you know your name is too short to qualify as a post by itself? Are you out there?

All right, I'll do more spelling........

Um, word math. All letters that go below the bottom line like g, j, q are worth 1. All those in the lines like a, e, o, c are worth 2, all words above the line like b, h, k are worth 3. Write the words, leaving a line in between each. Above each letter write its value.........add the numbers and see how much each word is worth.

Rainbow words. Write each word in every color.........one on top of the other..............so you have each word written in pencil, then you trace blue on top, then trace green and so on. This ensures my kids are tracing those words 8 times............but they don't think they are writing it that many!

Triangle words. Write the first letter on the first line. Go down to the next line and write the first letter directly under the first letter you just did, then the second letter next to it. Go down to the next line and line up the first and second letters again directly under those above, then the third letter. It makes a triangle shape when all the first letters are one under another and the word gets longer and longer. Wish I could illustrate it on here. I will try.

Don't know it that'll stay the way I lined it up.

I hope he gets in soon. You would rest much easier...and so would he since he would be feeling better. :goodvibes

Oh, yeah, I forgot........on the word math, they then write their words in order of their worth.............descending sometimes, ascending another...........depends on my mood. ;)

There's always ABC order too..........................again, I like to mix it up, sometimes I tell them to start with Z and go backwards..............they have to THINK........... :rotfl:

You most likely are still "almsot done". To be in love is to care. To care is to be concerned. To be concerned is to worry. To worry is to show love. :goodvibes It's all a great big circle...

Circle...c-i-r-c-l-e...circle.

All of a sudden he started up like it was gonna be disastrous...for my floors at least...if I didn't get up right then and there and get him out. Sheesh...dogs! Got to love them...but can't he go to the bathroom during the daylight hours during the colder months of the year? And yes, I am wimpy enough that October DOES qualify! I darn near became a popsicle waiting for him to go!!

Popsicle...p-o-p-s-i-c-l-e...popsicle.

Well, gee whiz, if you're going to give out COMPLIMENTS.............

Okay, let me think, those are my USUAL tricks...........what else?

Well, they love search and finds..................you can make them on a website......I forgot which one now, but I can find out for you.

There's scrabble using only spelling words.............usually what we do is write all the words, then cut them apart so we know we have all the letters we need............the kids just play on their desks, we don't use a board. It's just simple taking turns, no points involved.

Going through the newspaper and circling or highlighting (they do love to use highlighters) all the words that fit their rule..........spelling word or not.........you can give them a set number to find, or just as many as you can.

Write a word that fits the rule for each letter of the alphabet.

Jay, how do I say this?

:faint: :scared:  :scared1: All of them look like I did after seeing a huge spider crawling on our van today. I don't "do" spiders. I do snakes. I do mice. I even do other creepy crawlies...but I do not do spiders. They are evil and want to eat me.

Spiders...e-v-i-l...spiders.

I love the idea of spelling word scrabble!! Sounds like fun (and he won't even think of it as "school")!!
