The Lynx Bus System

Hi, my wife and I are going down to Orlando for Christmas. We are taking the Amtrak train to the Kissimmee station. From there we are looking to use the Lynx bus system to get around. Does anyone have any experience taking the lynx buses from the world to points around Orlando? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Get a rental car if you want to enjoy your trip.

No rental car for us.. It is an expense we don't need. We just need to get from the train station to the fort and then we will be all set!:thumbsup2

I see a huge difference from needing to get from the train station to the fort to looking to use Lynx to tour Orlando from WDW.

Lynx can work for point to point transportation if you are patient, have plenty of time and flexible, to tour requires great planning. Not worth it IMHO.

I have looked at Lynx in the past and you can get from the airport to WDW but I don't know about the train station. The website is good and you can put in point to point.

If you have the time it is the most cost efficient other than ME.

Lynx isn't set up to take luggage. Lynx can get you to DTD (or the TTC). Disney buses from those points aren't set up to take luggage either. I guess you could take Lynx from Amtrak to WDW if you're willing to take at least 2 hours and don't have a lot of luggage.

A note to the PP, the Lynx website is misleading. Lynx doesn't really have a stop near locations like the S/D. You'd take Lynx to either the TTC or DTD (90 minutes) then take a taxi or Disney transportation to your resort.

It takes 2 buses, about 1 hour 15 minutes to go from Kissimmee train station to DTD (19 miles-- only .19 miles walking)

That doesn't include up a a 30 minute wait for a bus. Just type train station your starting location. Scroll and pick your station. Type Ticket Transportation as your destination if you want to go to the TTC. It probably makes sense to take a taxi from the TTC to FW.

Doesn't look good. Just getting from the Amtrak station to the Swan/Dolphin takes over three hours, spans over forty miles, and requires four bus changes plus several miles of walking for transfers plus a cab ride. http://trip1.golynx.com/ntp/en/?#result_mark

Actually, travel by Lynx from either the Kissimee or Orlando requires only one change of buses (from Kissimmee, change at Osceola Square Mall) and takes about 1 hour 15 minutes to reach the Transportation & Ticket Center (about 13 miles). Total walking distance is about 600 feet. While Lynx will accept luggage, you can't have any more than you can carry yourself at any one time, and from what has been posted on these boards, Disney apparently prohibits baggage aboard its buses (perhaps Cranbiz could elaborate). You can always take a cab from the TTC (or Downtown Disney - the other WDW Lynx stop) to your hotel if necessary (much cheaper than a cab all the way from Kissimmee) to transport luggage.

For ctpooh, the TTC is relatively close to Fort Wilderness if that is your Disney resort. You can't walk it, but a cab would be short and inexpensive. I don't know what Disney policy might say about taking the ferryboat over to the Magic Kingdom entrance with luggage in tow, then taking the boat from there to Fort Wilderness (an otherwise practical way of getting there).

You will see other Lynx stops listed for WDW, but check the schedules - these are commuter bus routes which operate only twice per day and are intended to transport workers to/from their jobs (if you time it right, you can always see Disney employess lined up to catch the evening bus after work).

After arrival at your resort, when you don't have luggage, Lynx can certainly transport you off-site to Orlando destinations. No, its not always a direct trip and people shouldn't expect it to be - the public bus is not your personal automobile; It's something like going from one WDW resort to another - you have to change buses. But is is an inexpensive way to get around, and the conections are usually reasonable (conect from Lynx to the I-Ride Trolley for International Drive).

If you tell us where around Orlando you think you want to go with Lynx then perhaps further advice can be given to you.

Thanks for your input! As a result of your advice, I think we will be getting a taxi from the kissimmee station to the Fort. Do you have any advice on how to avoid getting a mears or mears-affiliated taxi? I have heard some horror stories on the podcast, and I would rather like to avoid this company.

Thank you!
