has anyone seen the lion king off broadway. the show is coming to procters theater in Albany ny next spring. we are thinking about taking the kids since it will be cheaper then trying to see it in the city.

any do's and don't for picking seats in this theater?

At the beginning of the play there's a sort of parade of "animals" down the aisles. It would be fun to have tickets next to the aisle. When we saw Lion King locally -- obviously way off Broadway, but with Broadway-caliber actors -- the theatre actually removed some seats to create a center aisle for the performers.

I saw TLK in Indy... oh, gosh it must have been ten... no twelve years ago. I was in the 2nd row, pretty close to dead center of the stage. I remember the animal parade, but I didn't get a very good view of it. The thing I remember the most was that during "I can't wait to be king", the giraffes bent down and heads were over the audience. If I would have stood on my seat, I could have reached up and touched them. :simba:

We saw it 2 years ago in Charlotte. I can't wait for it to come back so we can see it again. We had seats in the lower balcony, next to the rail, so first row in the lower balcony. The seats were great. We could see the animal parade and see everything on stage. I would definitely pick those seats again.

It's an incredible show!

We saw it in Boston and it was the type of show that was a feast for all the senses. It was truly beautiful in every way.

We sat off to the side in the orchestra section; the seats were great.

We've seen it twice - GREAT show, and I loved the mezzanine so you can see everything.

I saw it in Ohio -- actually twice. Once was from "good seats" in the loge. The second time is from what I thought would be worse seats on the floor. However, I think the floor seats ended up being the better seats because you felt like you were much more part of the action. If you can get aisle seats along a main aisle, even better. Our theater has four aisles going front to back. (There is no center aisle.) The animal parade came in through the two centermost main aisles.

It came to Memphis last year; my daughter managed to get an aisle seat for younger granddaughter (and we sat in the seats adjacent, of course). It is amazing! Not only did the animals come down the aisles at the beginning, at one point they come back and stand in the aisles during a song. By all means, go!

I go to the theatre a lot and LOVE the front row as you can just see so much more detail and I find it easier to get fully immersed in the show as you can't see anyone else around you. Occasionally very tiny things (like feet) will be cut out, but I didn't find that an issue at all at The Lion King - in fact I think it was one of the best front rows I've sat in! A lot of other people prefer 3 or 4 rows back or front of the mezzanine. And as PPs have said, if you have seats next to the centre aisle in the orchestra then it makes the Circle of Life even more incredible! I'm seeing it again next weekend and have basically the same seats I had in March, but on the opposite side.

(Cliff notes version: front row on the aisle = perfection!)

We saw it from balcony seats with my daughter's girl scout troop many years ago. It was great, but I sure did wish we were on the main floor. The costuming looked so good, but it was hard to tell detail from so far away. (We took a pair of field glasses).

We saw it in Austin, TX a couple of years ago - it was soooooooo incredible, loved every minute of it. We were center 19 rows from stage, it was perfect!

We also saw it in London a few years ago, with older granddaughter; again, got her an aisle seat. We didn't tell either of them that the characters would be in the aisle, so they both got a pleasant surprise.
