Good morning Liberals! I am home from 2 weeks in Florida (11 days in WDW). We drove home from the airport in freezing rain. Welcome back to Wisconsin. *sigh*

Good morning! I'm back at work, I've been off since Dec. 23. Oy.

I saw some organic baby arugula in the produce section yesterday and realized I'd been away from this thread for too long.

I know we are so close to The Big Day, where is Goofyluver with our official countdown? *taps foot impatiently*

Welcome back robinb! I hope you had a blast in Florida.

Even though we live closer to DL, airfare is more expensive than flying to Orlando, and so is staying on-site. Staying on-site at both places does not compare apples-to-apples because DL hotels are much more costly than the value resort options at DW. Staying off-site at DW we can get a 3 bedroom 2 bath condo five min. from the gates for $85 per night. Can't do even close to that at DL. DW also has the free days special going on. Decisions, decisions....
I have NEVER stayed onsite at DL. IMO, there just isn't a need to do so. I stayed at the HoJo on our last trip and it was very nice! We paid extra for a "Theme Park View" and we overlooked the pool area and we were able to see the monorail go by over in the Magic Kingdom. We could also see a bit of DCA from our balcony. We got the Entertainment Rate (and they checked our card!) which came out to less than $100 per night. IIRC we had a microwave and refrigerator in the room. It was *maybe* a 10-minute walk from our room to the park gates ... less than the walk from our room at the Boardwalk to Epcot. Oh, and they had free parking too!

You can also try Priceline if you are really on a budget. I stayed at the Doubletree a few miles away for only $40 per night. It was a little far away, but they had a frequent free shuttle to the parks. I have also stayed at the Hilton and the Hilton Suites using Priceline.

I lived in Wisconsin until I was 10. One of the reasons my family left was because of the harsh winters. I feel for ya!

We've stayed at the DL Hotel and at the Paradise Pier. We used a Priceline hotel for our San Diego trip and I always get car rentals via Priceline. I guess I need to do some research for priceline bids (betterbidding.com). I'm just worried about getting a seedy area.

Welcome back!

I'm heading off back to work today! My back went out on me a few days ago and my chiropractor has been on vacation. I hope I can make it through the day! The first day back is always rough.

Hahaha. I saw that. Actually, there was talk about that years ago, but I really doubt it would happen now.

You mean you think the country (and the world for that matter) isn't up for another Bush? :confused3 Whassamatta witchew? :lmao:  :rotfl:

Having really bad Disney trip withdrawal.

Must plan another trip.

This is bad.

Would would you do, fellow Disney nerds?

BOOOOOOOK it. :rolleyes1

I'm in the same boat. :sad2:

I'm seriously thinking of doing it right now.

This is what happens when the little kids are at the sitters and the big one is back in school.

Idle hands, my friends. Idle hands.

Sooo, what are you going to do?

popcorn:: Really? When do you want to go? Staying where? Spill it, sister.

I'm thinking of December 5-December 15 2009. Seems so far away though. :sad2: I entertained the idea of a quick spring trip, but I'm flying up to Boston with my daughter instead.

Hey guys- Just back from loverly Detroit, MI (or at least the suburbs) after a 6 day NYE getaway to see friends and family. Sad to see an area that was so vibrant and alive when I lived there as a child 30 some years ago look so rundown and tattered.

Speaking of Disney trips, I've got a Disney Rewards Card with about $1,000 on it burning a hole in my pocket. Just might have to make a little weekend trip up to see the Mouse in the next few. $1,000 just might be enough to cover a typical afternoon's tab of Drinks Around the World at Epcot...although I doubt it...;)

Last trip I attempted to make it from canada to mexico.
I was done by time we hit Japan.

A very short trip from 12/5 to 12/8, just me and my oldest. Although, if my husband's disnesia continues, we might just all go and stay for a week. It really depends on him.

I thought about a quick trip this spring too because it seems really far away, but I'm just going to hold out until December. I think. Unless there are some REALLY good deals around mother's day.

I'm not sure where we'll stay. I occupied myself this morning and didn't book anything, yet.

Yes, it's really a shame.

Where did you live around there? My husband grew up in Bloomfield Hills. I've only been there once; it seemed nice.

Are you thinking of a trip as well? I wonder if all the offers right now will be extended because of the economy?

See that, you went the wrong way. If you go towards Canada, you hit the Rose & Crown on only the second country...big mistake!! We go towards Mexico and it's beer and "slushies" all the way until England. As far as I'm concerned, the Rose & Crown's like the black hole of drinks Around the World...you have to avoid it at all costs...until the end!

Bloomfield Hills was nice area and still is. As far as Detroit suburbs go, it's on the high end. I grew up in Troy until about age 9, only about 5 miles away from Bloomfield Hills.

As far as Disney, we're going to spend a month and a half in the Blue Ridge Mountains starting the middle of next month for a little family R & R, but I think we could definitely swing 3-4 days at Disney within the next month. It all depends on the weekend specials that they've got going on. If we can get the Poly for $200-300/night, I just may be able to get the wife on board. I think the economy's going a long way in pushing the specials, but the room rates are usually good during this time of the year anyway.

 everyone. I've been away for a while, just been busy, but wanted to say hello to all of you, and hope that you all had great holidays! It's so close to innauguration! I can't wait.
