I  you too!

Until you have personal experiences to demonstrate the mess our insurance system is...many people just don't "get it."

I'll sum up my experience in having a disabled child in two words:

INSURANCE SUCKS!!!

Pre-existing conditions/disabilities make it impossible to get care. I have actually asked an insurance rep if they had blood or ice running through their veins.

Not my proudest moment.

I'm hoping things will be changing.

I beg to differ, my dear. You were standing up for your kid and you have every reason to be proud of that. If there's a hell the fools who deny the health claims of disabled kids will be roasting for sure. How can those creeps sleep at night? :headache:

They probably sleep quite comfortably. On their nice fat top-o-the-line mattresses...that they paid for with all that dough they saved their companies by denying claims.

Why, oh why, do I picture those charmers as republicans, ugly ones too??;) And if any republicans are reading this thread, relax. That was a joke...

:rolleyes1 I don't know. That may be the way I picture them as well.

I think they all look like Ann Coulter, Bill O, and Rushie.

Oh...yea...that was a joke too.

I have had one rough day.
Got up extra early to go to the christmas tree farm, which is about 1/2 hr away to choose our live christmas tree.
Anyways the tree farm did not have any left, so I went to two others and finally found our live christmas tree.
Just when I thought I could relax and grab some coffee I realized I left my reusable mug at home and the gas station only had styrofoam cups :scared1:
What is wrong with people these days?:sad2:

Don't they know that every time you use a styrofoam cup, another fairy loses her wings? :sad2: Seriously...what's wrong with people?

And I'm glad you finally found your tree darlin'!

Here's a horror story some would want you to believe only happened with "socialized medicine":

My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer last April. To cut to the chase, she's fine now and is fully recovered.

But getting back to the story, she was scheduled to start her chemotherapy when she got a call, from the doctor's office cancelling her chemotherapy because her insurance company wouldn't pay. Btw, my sister had been paying her premiums all along and the insurance company had no problem taking the money.

Finally, after nearly a week of fighting with the insurance company, they finally agreed to pay. Wasn't that big of them.

But, that only happens with "socialized medicine". Baloney.

If we want to compete in the global marketplace, we need NHC with a single payer system. This country's healthcare system went to hell when we moved from not-for-profit healthcare to for-profit healthcare. That's why it costs GM so much more in healthcosts than Toyota. It isn't the greedy unions as some would want you to believe. It's the system itself. Japan has NHC and the US doesn't. That's why it costs less for Toyota. Want to level the playing field? Nationalize healthcare and get the Wall Street investors out of healthcare.

Do I want government involved in my healthcare? Damned right I do. I'd rather my healthcare system be run by an entity that is accountable to taxpayers/voters than a nameless, faceless group of Wall Street investors who would rather people drop dead than pay a claim and cut into their profits.

And for all those people who are soooo happy with their employer-subsidized healthcare, my sister was laid off last week. She has no health insurance right now and it isn't likely she's going to get it being a cancer survivor.

I am so sorry. That's a complete crock. We never used our insurance until we had kids, then we realized that it wasn't as great as we thought. Of course, as you said, they have no problem taking your money.

I have to agree. You've got to protect your baby--who cares what anyone else thinks? I could not work for an insurance company.

With sweat dripping down their big giant heads????????????

You mean the same people who scream about OTHER people taking handouts while having no problem taking them for themselves while getting sweaty looking at pictures of SP?

Minor insurance related annoyance but just so typical of our wonderful healthcare system.

We are self-employed and we pay over $1100 a month for our family coverage with Empire Blue.

My son had a boil on his arm that burst and we took him to see our pediatrican - $25 copay. She prescribes an ointment. Go to the local CVS pharmacy to get it filled and give them the $15 off coupon the doctor gave us. We have a 15/30/70 copay with this insurance plan. When we pick up the prescription - our cost was $95.99 (that is after the $15 coupon). $95.99 for a topical oinment that he will use for 5 days - twice a day. Basically we are paying $10 every time we put the ointment on his arm.

The thing is that only way we could possibly get the prescription cheaper is by going throught Empire's online pharmacy website (which is Caremark/CVS) to order the medicine. But when we do that, it takes at least 14 days to get the medicine. A little too late to stop the infection....

There as a prescription I needed for my daughter earlier this year. The local pharmacy quoted me $70 a month!! When I contacted Empire, they said I could get the same prescription through the Caremark/CVS website - paying $70 for 3 months instead of $70 a month. Bargain (I guess) so I did that. I purchase refills on that through the website and I get notication today that they are sending me a generic refill for less money. So I look up the generic and all I see is major complaints about this particular generic and its side effects. So now I am trying to get them to fill it as it was originally prescribed as I don't want my daughter to deal with the side effects of the generic.

Totally ridiculous and for these types of benefits, we pay over $1100 a month. And every single year, the plan goes up by another $100 a month and I have to revise my plan and take higher and higher deductibles ($100 emergency room, etc...) just to keep the premium anywhere near what I was paying the year before.

If people in goverment had the kind of health insurance regular ppl do, socialized health care would pass faster than any bailout. I carry our families health care, through my work. What the heck will I do if, God forbid, I were to get sick with something awful and not be able to work? I can easily see how people go bankrupt.

When my youngest was 1 month old he came down with RSV. It was bad, a helicopter ride to children's and a week in NICU and he was good. We received the statement showing how much his total care was, prepare yourself for the number...$84,000 plus $10,000 helicopter ride. If we didn't have insurance we would have been screwed.

:wave2: I'll play the insurance vent game too. :goodvibes

My daughter's authorized medicine will cost over $60K this year alone and will continue to increase as she grows. Trying to get Blue Cross Blue Shield of Utah to pay for a med they authorized is like pulling teeth. Last time the pharmacy was this close to sending us to collections before BCBS paid. Every time BCBS receives a bill it's like they have to start over and it's maddening at best :headache:

Same for my Jon. And why have they denied us? Because his condition is congenital and therefore treatments are seen as non-beneficial.

So...lemme get this straight. My kid is born disabled, and therefore, we should write off all treatment?

Insurance companies can bite it. (***This statement has been censored by Jen***)

...and a pony! :goodvibes

That's so true. Our friends had a baby two years ago who was born with severe birth defects. He spent all but two weeks of his 9 1/2 month life in the hospital. The bills were astronomical and even with insurance, their co-pays really hurt them. Since my friend had to have a hysterectomy due to pregnancy complications, they used a surrogate last spring to try and have another child. They were incredibly lucky--the surrogate is carrying their twins boys, but they are afraid that the twins will come early and they will have huge NICU bills again. These people are the most responsible people, the kind you would want for your neighbors. All they wanted was a baby. Now they are looking at possibly declaring bankruptcy, not because they were having fun or bought too much house, but because of the their medical bills--and they have "good" insurance.

What? That doesn't even make sense. You have seen a lot in your very young life.
