THE LIBERAL THREAD #3- No Debate Please

So, I'm home flipping channels switching between the recaps of the NFL draft, the tough Red Sox loss and the Celtics' playoff game, and all of a sudden there's an ad on the tube for the Roach motel (You've all seen it..."Roaches check in, but they don't check out"), and it occurs to me that would be really useful right about now.

I'll buy the next round. *sigh* Tonight seems to be a good drinking night.

:thumbsup2

But how much do you want to take on that fight? They reproduce quicker than you can spray.

I'd almost think about moving, rather than deal with the things.

I have lived too long in my home to just walk away and let them win that easily. I've been googling exterminators, but my landlord (who lives above me) seems to have little to no interest in helping to eradicate a problem that he created by failing to clean up his own messes.

Understandable. I realize no home is free of roaches, but when you can't invite friends over because the roaches have taken over, what can you do as an individual? Do you take your rent money elsewhere? A reasonable person would expect an apology and action to speedily rectify the situation in your eyes, correct?

I mean, this is a business situation that has emotional overtones. You love your house, it would be a pain to move, but to the landlord, is it merely a revenue stream? How much would it cost the landlord to remove the roaches, versus your check?

How has the landlord handled this situation previously?

Granted, his house, his rules if you want to live there. That's a given.

I told you it was a drinking night. ;) Maybe I should switch to Girl Scout cookies instead of the boxed wine. The cheap philosophy is probably annoying--sorry! In vino, veritas.

I agree. The woman is thoughtful and intelligent and her arguments are reasoned.

Can we discuss without attacking the remaining candidates?

On this thread? :lmao:

I don't see why not. I think we all feel that way to some degree.

Unfortunately, I don't have time to go into this because I have a college graduation to attend. My neice is graduating college today. I remember the day that little stinker was born. Where did the years go?

But, I do want to discuss this at length later. :goodvibes

I think Elizabeth is 100% correct. The "press" no longer cares about covering the issues. They are only interested in two things: controversy and the "horse race". That's it. News is no longer about informing the public, it's a business that only seeks to entertain.

Funny...I don't recall too many posts on the Hillary thread complaining about the lack of substance in the last debate.

Anyway, to the article... She makes some good points. I see people jump all over soundbites and innuendo all the time and I suspect it's because it's easier. It's easier to be fed information rather than take the time to seek it out and it's easier to twist the little soundbites to suit one's own agenda rather than see things in context.

What does that have to do with this? I miss your point. :confused3

The point is that it's kind of funny reading how "this thread" can't contain a reasonable discussion about how the press doesn't focus on issues, when just about every post on the Hillary thread following the debate was how great it was, what an awesome job the moderators did, and how important it was to hear about flag pins, Obama's opinions on Reverend Wright's patriotism, and the freaking Weather Underground. Kind of hard to claim to care about substance when delighting in the lack of it, isn't it?

Just about every post? I only saw a few but maybe some outlooks are biased. (Including mine.)

I fail to see why we can't have a discussion about substance even if opinions over one debate differ. Obviously some may have different feelings about this subject which makes a better discussion than if everyone agreed.

1 - Yes, just about every post. Start at page 191 about midway down and see if you can find a post from someone other than an Obama supporter complaining about the lack of substance in the debate. I certainly can't.

2 - There is no reason we can't have that discussion. I've been trying to do so for months now, only to be greeted with articles about former pastors, flag pins, and Rezco (again, go back to the beginning of this thread and the end of the former Liberal thread) without once bringing up "Whitewater", Vince Foster, or any of the other crap that's been thrown at Hillary over the years (though I will admit to making a joke on the Obama thread about her travelling from event to event under sniper fire). SOME of us have tried talking about the issues, without much luck.

1. I never look back at ANY thread. I move on.

2. You sound very victimish (is that a word?) right now. Those things you mention do matter to some people and to others they don't. (I admit that the flag pin thing is particularly silly.) Again I don't go back in threads and I do not consider most of the stuff that happened in Bill's term of office as good things to hold against Hillary. Note that I said "most".

Can we quit this listing stuff? This style gives me the heebie-jeebies. ;)

Another thing...you talk of what happens on the Hillary thread a lot. I see that as a place for Hillary supporters to have a safe place to state their opinion. Does it really surprise you to see Hillary fans claim that she did well in a debate? Is it so shocking that they would be biased and not see the same lack of substance if Hillary did well?

I will add that on the Obama thread I see lots of nastiness and stuff that raises my eyebrows too. I can only wonder at the logic sometimes but I realize that the thread is a safe place for Obama fans to see things differently and I move on. I know that I'll never convince an Obama fan that someone there is wrong or too vicious, that's just the nature of this mess.

You asked, I answered. :teeth: It's up to you whether or not you want to "go back" to see the truth of what I posted.

I'm not playing the victim; I'm angry and I'm sick of it. There were two posts on that thread last night that were just the last straw with me. If it were just those two posts, however, I wouldn't care. But the lack of any response from anyone else on the thread...

I couldn't care less that Hillary fans were happy she did well in the debate. I care that one of those posters is now on this thread acting like it's impossible to talk about substance, after applauding the lack of substance in another thread.

And no...flag pins and the rest of that nonsense is no more substantive than Hillary's decision to stay with a philandering husband or the lies about her involvement in Vince Foster's death. It's nonsense intended to distract people from real issues like health care, like the economy, and like the continued deaths of some of our best and brightest in Iraq. But let's not demand better from debate moderators. No...let's applaud them and give them an "A" grade for continuing the nonsense. Then, let's make fun of Obama because he has the temerity to call them on it. Let's pretend we haven't been crying about the mean old media and how poorly they treat Hillary.

Sorry to go on a rant, but yeah...I'm sick of it, and it needs to end.

I know these things happen, I understand that. I don't have to backtrack in a thread to understand that. I just don't see the point in getting angry about it. I have seen some things that made me spit nails as you know very well and it didn't do me any good to be angry. I'm trying to just focus now on what I feel is right and not let the odd comments get to me.

You say that it has to stop. How do you intend to see to that? Personally I will fight that because I believe that the biggest moron has the right to say what they think.
