The Liberal Thread #2 - No Debate Please

Ok, pretend this is your mother speaking. STOP arguing! This is the NO DEBATE thread for liberls isn't it? :lmao: I'd like to ask the Obama folks to stop posting anti-Clinton stuff and the Clinton folks to stop posting anti-Obama stuff here. If this thread gets much worse we're going to end up with getting our own thread closed.

We're all liberals. Let's stop circling the wagons and shooting inward, please. Post as much positive about your own candidate as you wish but PLEASE STOP posting negative stuff about the other candidate - unless that candidate is a republican, of course.

Seriously, the beating up on each other's candidate isn't going to make anyone 'see the light'. Tell me something wonderful about your candidate. :thumbsup2

I like the liberal thread to discuss the issues and the Dem party...and to also discuss the difference about the Rep thread....a couple of weeks ago that started to change...and it became uncomfortable to come in here.

So i started my own thread so to brag about my candidate...I only want to come here to brag about both candidates not one or the other. I have not come in here before and bragged about Hillary till tonight because I finally got tired of the latter.

:flower3:

I don't have a problem with posting or discussing negative aspects of each candidate, as long as its accurate information. The goal here is to nominate the best candidate. I do have issues when people make it personal and start taking pot shots at people based on who they support.

Its sad to see some taking criticisms and lack of support for their candidate personally though. Its not personal.

I had a terrible nightmare last night.

Hillary was elected president and made Bill the VP.

On Jan 21 she resigned.

And then Bill made her the VP.

:rotfl2:
This made me laugh out loud. :thumbsup2

I think that I'll take a break from the Liberal thread. There's lots to be done and think about with Texas coming up and I don't need to be pulled down by nastiness. It's just politics after all.

I'm tired of the sniping too. I will happily support either Hillary or Obama in November becuase the LAST thing this country needs is more of the same. On the issues they are only a hair apart, and most likely the plans that they are both articulating now will change dramatically once they are elected.

But personality wise, they're miles apart. I could support Obama if I agreed with his policies.

OK, I just saw a short snippet with one of the Super Delegates.

He's 21 years old & never voted before. He's from Wisconsin and still doesn't know who he's voting for :scared1: How did someone like this get to be a super delegate?? I missed that part, but still, this kids vote is worth more than 13,000 American's?? OMG, there is just something inherently wrong with this super delegate situation....

 God help the Democratic party if the super delegates reverse the nominee that the pledged delegates chose.

True. Hillary seems to do better when she's in a smaller group setting or a one-on-one, and Obama seems better in front of larger groups. I still have a hope that they will join forces because I feel they compliment one another very well.

I was thinking of you last night-DN is volunteering for Obama in Ohio! She's been doing some work on her campus (Kent State) and she may be going into Cleveland and Akron to work with the groups there as well. She was telling me last night how important Ohio is and how she wants to be part of bringing him a big win there. She's hoping he comes to Cleveland so she can see him again.

I can't tell you what it feels like to hear her be so excited about voting and being involved. She's the closest thing I'll ever have to a child and hearing all of her stories makes me feel so thankful that I had a part in raising her.

I agree but I don't think it's personality as much as perception. Hilary has that 'Clinton cloud' that some people will just never let go. Obama has that preachers personna that we seem to want to hear right now, even if he really doesn't say such inciteful things.

I related this once before: My wifes boss has met Hilary twice over the past two years and had long and personal (one on one, one on two) conversations with her. He was blown away by how real she was, Personable, friendly, sincere...This is hardly the devil woman we see portrayed in the media.

This sounds more critical than I intended. I only mean he doesn't seem to speak to absoute specifics as much as some of us would prefer...

Wow...what do you think he incites??? Riots?? Unrest??

Ya know, Bill spends a great deal of time in the actual preacher's pulpit. In fact, he was preaching yesterday. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/nation/politics/bal-te.bill11feb11,0,3427671.story

Maybe it isn't about religion, at all. Maybe there is a possibility that times come, and times go. It may be time for a new, more relevant face for the Democratic party. I'm not saying it IS, I'm saying that more and more folks are open to the possibility.:thumbsup2

That's odd. I wonder what happened with that guy to become a superdelegate?

I don't like the whole superdelegate situation either. It really bothers me. But a lot of things about our election system bothers me. It's like we're still in the 18th century.

Yes, I agree it would be for the best.

Clinton told Katie last night - if she were to lose (and she thinks she won't) she would go back to the Senate and support Barack 100%.

I think we'll know by TX\OH in March......

We won't know until at least Pennsylvania, and possibly not then...unless Hillary loses two out of those three, in which case it's pretty much over.
Here are some things that Obama has done...he to is a politician and is doing as politicians do...He is not perfect in his campaining.
Ok, this was just ridiculous. For one, the things you posted are flat wrong. Under Obama's plan, for example, anyone that wants coverage can get it. He simply doesn't force it on people that don't want it (generally young people that think they're invincible). Just because the Clinton smear machine puts something out there doesn't make it true.

But that's not even the point. You post 3 or 4 times in a row slamming Obama, then the very next post is complaining about Obama supporters slamming Clinton?

I have absolutely zero problem actually discussing the issues of the campaign on this thread, regardless of what the "title" of the thread is. The "No Debate" clause was just to keep out the neo-cons that would come in to start arguments. We are all (well, except John) liberals here, and I see no reason why we can't discuss these two candidates and which one of them is better suited to serve our party as its leader.

Here's your answer: http://www.abcnews.go.com/Politics/Vote2008/story?id=4273078&page=1

Quote:"Rae got the one-on-one treatment from the former — and possibly future — first daughter because he is a Democratic National Committee member from Wisconsin and thus a "super delegate," one of the 796 free agents who can back any candidate in the race for the Democratic nomination."

"Rae was elected as a DNC member at the Wisconsin state party convention in June 2004. He was 17 years old at the time but there are no party rules that say a DNC member has to be of voting age. Rae ran against and defeated the president of the state firefighters' union and a state legislator."

Thanks for the info. Sounds like he's pretty popular right now! :rotfl:

I have to say I agree with you there. It's getting really sad to see on this thread how people are picking each other apart. I'm most likely voting for Obama in the Ohio primary, and I dislike seeing how his supporters are being labeled. I don't want to pick apart the Clinton supporters, since I may easily be joining their ranks once the nomination is settled. I'm happy that we have the choices we have as Democrats. Both Hillary and Barack are strong, smart and far better candidates than the Republicans.

Kumbayaaaaa my lord... Kumbayaaaaa...

Let's just remember we all want the same thing. A new Democratic direction for this country.

Yes, but there are two people running against each other. Unless they end up on the same ticket, one will face McCain. Lots of issues here. Electability, cross over appeal, and the whole super delegate issue that could possibility negate the voting public.

This election has brought into focus some very important issues. It's OK to discuss them openly. It's also OK to open a specific candidate we really love you cheer thread.

Back to the issues....The Super delegates pose a worrisome challenge for the Democratic party now, and in future elections. A good article written by Rahm Emanuel's brother:

http://www.alternet.org/democracy/76685/

Quote: "I want voters to make that decision. The superdelegates, my brother included, have not been elected by anybody to name the nominee. They've either been appointed by the Party or, as in my brother's case, have automatically inherited the role simply because they are elected officials. This isn't the place to debate the entire history of superdelegates. Suffice it to say, however, they were created by the Party machine decades ago for the express purpose of giving Party insiders the ability to thwart the popular will.

After what Democrats went through in Florida in 2000, we should be the first to reject any such funny business. We should be as opposed to superdelegates changing the course of an election as we were to the Supreme Court appointing George W. Bush president."

grammar bashing too. Nice. .:thumbsup2

Didn't say there was anything wrong with preaching from the pulpit but besides that Bill's not running.

We know what you're saying but it seems that if the majority of democrats decide that Hilary will be the candidate that YOU won't get onboard. If you will support Hilary if chosen please admit it and we'll all know we're fighting for the same causes. I've seen very few Clinton people here who won't support whomever is picked.
