OK.. so has anyone seen this movie yet? If so, what did you think of it? I didn't quite understand the story here. Kind of lost.

She is living in 2006, while he is living in 2004. At the end, when she found out why he didn't make it to the dinner, it was because he died that day. So she came running to the lake house and put a note in the mail box and hoping that he would response. He got the note and said to meet her at the lake house. So they meet at the lake house. So, does this mean that she went back in time (2 years back)?

I saw it...liked it.
By the time she knew it was him that died, 2 more years had passed. She actually realized that in 2008 when she was working on her house and met his brother....so when she ran back to the lake house, she told him to wait to meet her in 2008.
Did that make sense??

Yes but it was still 2006 in his time right? When they met? I liked the movie too because I'm simple but I did wonder when they left the Lake House that day would it be 2006 or 2008?

so.. if they did meet in 2006 or even 2008, would this mean that he became alive again?

one more question... how were they sending notes back and forth if he is supposedly be dead? or were they sending notes in 2004?

I thought it was 2006. The opening, when it was Valentine's Day and the man (at the time it wasn't shown to be Keanu) got hit by the bus... it was because he was coming to find her. So she told him NOT to go looking for her that day... to wait... just wait... and meet her at the Lake House instead.

Wouldn't that have still been 2006? :confused3

Didn't she figure out that it was him that got hit by the bus in 2007, which would have been 2006 when he died, but she sent the letter in 2007 - 2005 (his time) and then the 2006 accident didn't happen?

I guess the sense of urgency for her to get the letter to him makes more sense if it was 2008 - 2006 his time....

Either way, I cried like a baby.... :rolleyes1

Kimmielee I think your right.

The man that got hit by the bus that she didn't save was supposedly him. So in HER TIME 2008 when she found out he died she ran to the Lake House and sent him the note saying DON'T GO DOWNTOWN and he didn't so he didn't die. She saved his life. I cried like a baby too.

why is there a 2 year difference? i don't get it. why is it that he is 2 years behind?

okay.. he was the one who got hit, then two years later she found out that it was him who got hit, the one she's been sending letter to, she wanted to save his life by telling him to wait for him, wait for him at the lake house. so they both go to the lake house, and so, at the end, he is alive. so would this mean that he is now living in the present time. did i get that right?

I want to see this. Now, I'm not one who feels the movie is spoiled when I know the ending or anything. So someone please explain the basic premise as to how they are communicating when they are living 2 year apart. I don't understand.

I always check ruinedendings.com before I see a movie. That way I know if I need to bring Kleenex with me.

That's what I don't understand. I like simple plot, but this to me is a little bit complicated. Maybe I need to see it again. They are living two years apart, they have met before and and he dies yet able to communicate after , but at the end, they were able to meet again at a present time or future time.

When they were writing letters to one another, they were 2 years apart, and they didn't know each other, though they actually have met before.

It took some thinking but this is the way I understood it....

On Feb. 14th, 2006, she sees him get hit by a bus. By some twist of reality, she begins to correspond with him, but it's him in the time Feb. 14, 2004. He can write to her, b/c in his time "wrinkle", he won't die for another two years.

At the end of the movie, it's 2008 when we see her. She goes to see an architect on Feb 14, 2008. We know it's Valentine's Day b/c when we see the guy, Feb. 14, 2006, his brother mentions taking his girl out for V Day. This comment makes the guy remember something that the girl (can't remember the names) had written to him about being at the square on V'Day 2006 and something about seeing a guy killed that day.

Back in 2008, the girl is told by the guy's brother that his brother was killed two years ago that day, she runs to the house, writes him a letter that asks him to not look for her (the reason he was killed by the bus). We find out that he gets the letter before going to be flattened by the bus and waits for her like she asks.

So...when we see them meet officially....she hasn't waited at all for him, but he got her letter, waited two years and then met her at the Lake House in 2008. Does that make sense? Of course not...but it sounds good, lol.

hahaha.. thanks lori, sounds very good.. now i have to go back and re-read your post again, so i make sure i understand.

i enjoyed this movie, but i left the theatre puzzled, so i am trying to put the pieces together.

if i still don't understand.. you might have to break it down some more..lol

I think you just have to think simple and not try to understand it cause I think you could drive yourself crazy thinking about it. Cause I still can't understand if when they finally meet at the end is it 2008 HER TIME and 2006 HIS TIME or is it 2008 HIS TIME and 2010 HER TIME or is it SOMEHOW the same time?

lol.. so, you're confused too huh?! :rotfl: actually i didn't even know that the present time was 2008 when they came to see an architect. why do they have to be 2 years apart? for what reason? cause the first time, she wasn't able to save his life, and now that she knows, she prepares, so he doesn't have to die again?

this is a very good movie that i would like to know the story, the way it is written, not the way how i think it went..

i need to see this movie again. i know i'm terrible..

Hmm..let's see.

They both exist in both times (Now that makes sense  )

Remember how he went to her birthday party, and he knew her because of the letters, but she didn't know him b/c she hadn't reached the time in her life where they begin to write to each other.

So since she exists in his time, he would also exist in her time, EXCEPT for the fact that he was killed the day they started writing letters. By telling him not to get killed (what a good girlfriend , lol), she changed history, so that now...

not only does she exist in his time (he sees her sitting by the fountain), but he now exists in her time, which is why he was able to show up at the Lake House in her time.(2008).

I need a drink.. :rotfl:

OMG that has to be the most romantic movie EVER filmed!!! I can't miss it each time it's on tv and I've probably seen it 100 times by now. And every time I bawl my eyes out when he dies!! I wish I could find it around here on DVD.
