The I am a pirate/fireman, I am not a hijacker thread, all about nothing in general

Okay.

I obviously spend my holiday time on totally frivolous stuff as I just cannot find enough time in my day to look after "my babies". What.a.bad.mom.I.am.

:rotfl:
I feel like a bad mum since those 'babies' are better dressed than my son ever was.

Must say though, I love the 'mine mine mine' Finding Nemo t-shirt she bought. I'm going to keep an eye out for that one.

OMG - that is disturbing !!

I would certainly be uncomfortable if I had a real baby on that cruise!

Just wanted share a feel good story about Disneyland :)

One of my Year 2 students went to Disneyland with his family during the holidays. He has Autism and has a full time aide in class so his mum (a fellow teacher at the school) was quite concerned with how he'd cope being in a new environment and routine.

So I made two readers, one on each park, about my trip last year to help prepare him with photos of me there to help him establish the link. I also filled his mum in about the GAC and how it could help them as the travel agent had only told her about fast passes.

I was ecstatic to find out today that it all went perfectly for them :) first he found the entire series of Yo Gaba Gaba in the plane before his mum worked out the headphones lol then he slept on the plane! When they arrived in the park he was comfortable and they got the GAC card before the change but I think they'd still have gotten it which they were grateful for considering the heat (he hates being hot) and long lines.

He got excited as soon as he saw Splash Mountain because it was a focus in his book but did not enjoy the drop and refused to go back on! I tried to warn him in the book lol

Then the night they planned to watch the fireworks they were cancelled and he got really upset as it was part of his reader so mum went to city hall to enquire about going in just for the fireworks the next day, explaining the situation. The CM's gave them complimentary passes to use from 4pm the next day. Then the printer stuffed up and because it took so long the CM's gave them vouchers to get two large plush toys from the emporium! True Disney magic at work right there!!!

Best part: his mum saying it truly was the happiest place on earth because it made her forget she has an additional needs child :)

Had to share because it made me all warm and fuzzy!!!

I got goosebumps from that frangipanisam. So nice of you to make up that book for him and to help mum out. You were such a huge part of them enjoying the trip.

Awww Frangipanisam, thanks for sharing with us. That is a great story, and I'm so happy you were able to help the family make the most of their trip. I'm sorry the boy didn't want to go back on Splash Mountain, but at least he tried it once! The CMs at DL are an amazing bunch, and really know who to weave their magic on.

Wow, what a lovely story! Good on you for putting so much effort in to getting him prepared for it. :goodvibes

I ordered my birthday pressie a week ago, a new Nikon D7100 with 3 lenses. It finally came in the mail, but DH hid it before I could get to it, because my birthday isn't until Sunday... It's his revenge, because I'm always buying him stuff he can't have until Christmas :lmao:

That is a really nice story and thanks for sharing. I work with children with special needs and its so important to get that prep work done prior to any changes in their lives. I am so glad the whole family had a wonderful time. Its a shame more families in these situations do not get to experience the happiest place on earth.

Got my new camera today :goodvibes I'm itching to get out and play with it, but my DD thinks that one half hour nap a day is enough for a 5 month old...

Congrats on the new toy. I assume it's for you; and not your 5 month old who thinks 1.5 hour nap is enough??? :)

Not 1.5 hour, 30 minutes. That's all she slept yesterday... She's not a good day time sleeper.

Yes it's for me, even though it's hard to tell, so far all the photos on it are of her. :D

My DS was sleeping 30 minutes during the day. But he slept 13 hours straight at night. Is your DD the same?

She's not bad of a night, but definitely not sleeping through. She finally went to sleep around 10pm last night, then was awake again at 2, then up and down most of the night until I gave up at 8am this morning. Luckily she's very easy to get back to sleep of a night, she just doesn't stay that way

I was at the gym this morning flicking through their copy of Cosmo (the latest copy? Beyonce is on the cover) while on the cross trainer (a bit of a guilty pleasure, I would never buy Cosmo, but I love being able to read it at the gym hehe) and they had an article on the Princess Marathon. There's probably nothing in it that you can't find elsewhere, although had an interesting slant on why there is such a princess phenomenon in adults these days and what that really means.

Hoping that everyone on is here is okay with the current bushfire situation in NSW, particularly the Blue Mountains. Very full on emotionally knowing so many people through others that have lost their houses, including multiple teachers who were at school unable to be covered while their houses were being destroyed :(

I attended a wedding yesterday that was suppose to occur near Bilpin and they ended up being evacuated while all the guests and bride were driving up there. It was so fantastic to see family and friends pull together a memorable wedding for the couple despite the circumstances in her parents backyard and a restaurant that the venue also owns.

To watch the bride walk down the aisle was truly spectacular as she hasn't seen what had managed to be pulled together (and brought down during the evacuation) in her parents backyard.

Really brought it all home, along with hearing all the stories of survival and loss so I just wanted to make sure everyone on here is fine and if you've been affected that your safe and getting support.

xxx

I second frangipanisam sentiments. Its a tough country at times. Stay safe and our thoughts with those that have been affected.

You know what sucks? Deciding that you want to go back to WDW, knowing that the soonest you can go is March, maybe February, and then working out that really the best time to go is October... Which we've just missed...

So now the question is, do we try and get there sooner, or at a better time of year??? :rotfl2: 1st World problems...

Bec - May is a decent time of year to go to WDW as well. Just avoid Spring Break and hit it for the Flower and Garden show at Epcot. From what I saw of this year's festival, they included some food booths as well. Might be the May or way to go.....if not the November Halloween/Christmas interchange week.

Lol! Yep, I've got first world problems, too. For almost a year now I've been planning on heading back to the US (including WDW) at the end of 10/14 into 11/14, as it's supposedly a quiet time to go. This year the first PAX (gaming convention) was held in Melbourne in July, which was an amazing experience and incredibly popular. So I had every intention of going to the next one. A couple of weeks ago they announced next year's dates...31/10/14-2/11/14. Doh! So back to the crowd calendar for other possible quiet weeks and it turns out the first two weeks of December are a good choice. So...oh well, I'll just have to go when it's well into Christmas season hehe
