The Hyena Chat thread: Everyone's welcome!

We went to Fred Meyer tonight, intending to get DS8 his Halloween costume. He'd seen something when he went grocery shopping Sunday with DH. I asked him why they didn't just get it then, and he said he didn't mention it to Daddy. :sad2:

Anyway, so we had these "reward" coupons that had to be used up by the 25th (two $10 ones and a $9.50 one, and they can't be used together.) Fine, so I used one to get DS4 some jeans, I think DH used one on the groceries, and we'd use the third on the costume tonight.

DS8's "costume" turned out to be a creepy hooded mask.
He begged. Fine, there's your costume. Then DS4 saw a glow-in-the-dark skeleton costume. He begged and begged. I said, "I thought you wanted to be Yu-Gi-Oh!"

"Nooooo! I want dis!"
"What do you want to wear for Halloween? Yu-Gi-Oh or this?"
"Yu-Gi-Oh!"
"Fine." I put the costume back.
"Nooooo! I want dis!"

"DS4, you said you want to be Yu-Gi-Oh for Halloween! Do you want to be Yu-Gi-Oh or this?"
"Dis!" :headache: :sad2:

Yes. I did. I know, I'm a dork. But at least that's done.

PHEW!! At least it is DONE!! And before all the good costumes are gone, you know? :thumbsup2 Awesome!

Every day, Alex comes home and tells me how many more days we have until Halloween. He is so excited. :cool1: Me TOO! I cant WAIT to eat their candy!!!:woohoo: :woohoo:

Awww....that's cool. I only countdown to Christmas because that's when Cost Plus gets those chocolate calander countdown to Xmas boxes. :rotfl2:

The costumes were pretty picked over. The first skeleton costume DS4 picked up was a size 2-4. I told him it was too small, but DH was there to "save the day." I wasn't going to buy DS4 a costume, but DH said, "Look, honey, here's a 4-6!" :)

Thanks, Spock. :sad2:

My DSis got each of the boys a chocolate countdown calendar last year. They were very cheap, with cheap waxy chocolate, and when we opened the first tab, the chocolate was sort of... old looking. You know how it gets light colored around the edges or something? I wasn't going to let the boys eat them after all, but they were so excited, and DS8 ate a piece and said it tasted good. I thought it wasn't going to kill them, so we went through them.

Ds4 actually wound up getting into his and eating ALL the chocolates about the 2nd or 3rd day in, so after that I put DS8's calendar up high so that DS4 wouldn't get those, too. :lmao:

Advent calenders? I used to get them all the time when I was little. I would sneak in and eat the chocolate out of them.. and close the door back up to make it look like I hadnt. I still do that when we buy them for the kids. :rolleyes1 :lmao:

:lmao: I love it! Oh well.. More dress up! My kids have so many costumes in their room... They fill the whole closet! Some fit, some dont.. We will just save them for the new babies. :thumbsup2

Those are the best kind! When chocolate had been in a vending machine for a while it gets that white color.. Still good. Trust me. ;)

So, an interesting quandary for my family. I talked to my mom this evening, and she said my brother (the one with the Cambodian fiancee) stopped by. The fiancee's family wants to plan a BIIIIIIG dual-family get-together for the baby's first birthday. I gather her family here is quite large, much larger than my parents realized, so now Mom is in high panic mode. (She's very shy, and they aren't used to entertaining or socializing much anymore now that they're older.)

I said, "Where is this thing supposed to take place?", thinking maybe she was freaked out that this big bash was expected to take place at their house. She said at the girl's aunt and uncle's house, which is actually where my brother's family is living right now. But there's additional family in Everett, Federal Way, Kent, Auburn, etc. Whoa!

I asked, "OK, so when do they want to do this?"
"Christmas Eve."
"Christmas Eve? Why Christmas Eve? Was he actually born on the 24th?" (We never knew the exact day he was born...)
"Yes, he was born on Christmas Eve. That's why they want to have the get-together then, on the exact day."

Now for most families this wouldn't be such a big deal, but my family celebrates Christmas together on Christmas Eve, it's a Scandinavian tradition (Mom is Norwegian.)

Soooo... Now what? It would be incredibly poor manners to bring all our Christmas presents to this bash. So if we do the baby's birthday on Christmas Eve, when do we do Christmas Eve? My ex-SIL is certainly not going to let my brother have the kids on Christmas Day, he gets them only on Christmas Eve.

At first I suggested we move our Christmas celebration to another day. Not Christmas Day, because my niece and nephew can't be there and my ILs will flip out if we don't see them. But maybe the 23rd? The 26th? 27th?

But then my mom said, "You don't think the kids will have a problem not getting their Christmas presents on Christmas Eve?"

Ohhhh, the kids. Right. No presents on Christmas Eve would be terrible! And when then would we give them their stockings and other things from Santa? Lord, this is so complicated... :lmao:

What time is the birthday party? You can do both. Maybe one in the morning, and one in the evening. We always did the big family thing on Christmas eve, in the later evening because some people had to work or just other stuff to do during the day.

I suggested that, too, but the problem is the boy's party would be down south, we do Christmas Eve up here, and (at least for my kids and Dh's patience with family members) that would be a long day. I don't know, it would be tough.

I think the best thing would be if they'd be willing to celebrate the baby's birthday a day early or a few days later. If we can't do that, then maybe this is a second-best option. If that doesn't work, we'd have to postpone our Christmas celebration.

I was surprised they'd do this on Christmas Eve, but my mom pointed out that they're Buddhist, so maybe don't celebrate Christmas. But they must realize we would! (Though wouldn't know that we celebrate it Christmas Eve, of course.) :confused3

Oh.. and your BROTHER????? HELLO!!! big family celebration you guys have every year, right? What is he thinking planning the birthday party that day? Ding dong.

Yeah... they need to reschedule that. Im sorry, but your brother should have mentioned it. Besides!! Christmas Eve is a Thursday! Dont people work then? I know that Frelan gets the day, but LOTS of places have at least a half day!!

I know. He just dropped the bomb, said, "This is what they want to do", and waited for my mom to wig out. Why didn't he explain about Christmas Eve? Why didn't he explain about the kids and custody and blah blah blah?

It's a Wed., isn't it? Christmas is Thursday? But your point is right, if people are coming from all around the area, and have to work that day or for a half-day that day, they aren't going to be able to do it earlier in the day. I suppose everybody's got Christmas Day off, so maybe that's why they're thinking it's perfect, because nobody has to get up and go to work the next day... :confused3

Wow... Bet they would love it if your whole family just didnt show, huh?;) but im just mean like that. Maybe he needs to get some balls and tell them that your family has PLANS already. :scared1: Sorry. not nice. Want me to tell him?;)

Yeah, Wed. Sorry.. I saw glowing red on the calendar, and jumped on it. But really. It is a little rude to plan something on Christmas eve like that, and just expect a whole other family just to show up at it.. You know? TONS of families have big get togethers then. We do. Everyone goes to my Grandmas for Chili and gifts. Every year.

Oh I totally forgot to tell you: We were supposed to adjust DS's palate expander yesterday but forgot. DS reminded me this morning, so I went to get the key (which is taped to my computer monitor), but I couldn't find it... Suspiciously, the TAPE was still on the monitor, however.

I asked him if he took the key, and he said no. I asked DS4 if HE took the key, and he said YES!

"Where did you put it???"
"I don' know."
AAAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!! :scared1:

I stopped by the orthodontist office today on the way to Starbucks, but they weren't open.

I told DH about it this evening, and he said a small paperclip fits in the hole, so not to worry. However, I don't think I HAVE a small paperclip. I don't know if DH was able to adjust it yet or not. :headache:

OY. :headache: NICE! Hopefully the orthodontist will be open tomorrow!

I have no idea (since this is... what, 3rd hand information?) how set they are on the date. Hopefully not too hung up on having the big bash on his actual birthday.

I told my mom, "You know, with his birthday being on Christmas Eve, we're going to be going through this every year!" Maybe her family won't do a big bash every year on that day, but every year it's going to be his birthday on Christmas Eve. Even if they alternate years between the two families (that's how my brother and his ex used to handle it), we'll still need to celebrate his birthday and Christmas together. Poor kid!

Is it wrong that it is so late at night, and I am STARVING????:headache:
