The Hyena Chat thread: Everyone's welcome!

I was reading the thread on Thanksgiving turkeys.. OMG. Would it be wrong to make a big ole Thanksgiving dinner this weekend? That sounds so freaking good right now. But I have to ask my mom for her recipes first. Stuffing... gravy... I now know why my moms gravy is different. Turkey bits! DUH. Yum. Im so hungry. :lmao:

From CNN:

"Michael Chertoff revealed for the first time that 2,500 people are on the "no fly" list and only about 10 percent of those are U.S. citizens. Individuals on this list are barred from boarding aircraft because intelligence indicates they pose a threat to aviation.

Fewer than 16,000 people are designated "selectees," he said, and most are not Americans. These people represent a less specific security threat and receive extra scrutiny, but are allowed to fly."

I don't know that I believe this. DS4's rather unusual name (Scottish first name, Arab last name) is one of only 250 Americans on the no fly list?

And my FIL, who gets stopped every time he flies, is either one of these rare American "selectees" or he ALWAYS gets selected for "random" checks? :confused3

It does sound good, doesn't it? I love my mom's turkey, dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes. OMG, I ate dinner not too long ago, and now I'm salivating. :lmao:

My mom does a very basic dressing, with sauteed celery and onion tossed into the bread crumbs. A neighbor kid (friend of my brother's) came over and ate a bit of our dinner one Thanksgiving (his family eats their big turkey dinner at noon), and he just raved about my mom's dressing. He said his mom took two days to make some complicated dressing with oysters and who knows what all, and "I'm gonna tell her yours is better!" My mom was :scared1: , "Noooo!" :rotfl2:

That might be a pretty big undertaking by then, though. Unless you did one of those take-out Thanksgiving dinners. I don't know if those are any good at all or not... :confused3

We have done take out the past few years.. Thanksgiving from safeway, and christmas from Marie Calendar. Its okay. Good enough. At least from Marie Calendar it was pretty good. We have talked about doing the Honey Baked Ham meals... YUM. I love their stuff, and there is one right here in Tacoma.

Oh WOW, I love Honeybaked Hams! Do they do a turkey meal? Or just a ham type meal? I love ham, but I must have turkey at Thanksgiving! :lovestruc

They DO have a Turkey dinner.. They even have a ham/turkey meal!!:cool1:

Awesome! Sounds like you guys are set then!

I so wish we had one of those around here. I think the nearest one is in Bellevue...?

They deliver, you know. ;)
I might keep that in mind. :teeth:

My mom, who does a huuuuge spread at Thanksgiving, has started monkeying with her staple recipes, trying to mix it up a bit. Since these are foods we only have once or twice a year, it drives me crazy!!! I want traditional! I want comfort!

And every once in awhile DH's dad and stepmom invite us over. DH would rather not go, but I try to keep things as "even" as possible between the families. It's complicated...

I under stand.. We have always celebrated with my family. At first it was because of Alex. All of his first holidays, and such. Then when Mikalah was born, I never thought twice about it. I had my family.. and he didnt care to see his, so why bother. They didnt start celebrating until after Mikalah was born, any how.

Then when my parents moved, his mom saw it as her chance, or something. I dnt know. She wanted us to come for thanksgivng and stuff. It might not be so bad.. but she is an AWFUL cook. Simply horrid. AND.. Her and Jack barely eat at all. Really. Like half a sandwich, and that is their MEAL. So when they cook for everyone? Barely enough food to feed Mikalah. You know?

We went over for a BBQ, and she had 4 hamburger patties, and 4 hot dogs. For 6 of us!! Now.. i dont know if you recall my husband, but he is a BIG guy. He eats A LOT. So does Mikalah. I was looking at this food thinking... Great. They have enough to feed Mikalah and Frelan, what the heck are the rest of us going to eat? Good thing I had morning sickness, and Alex had eaten before we got there. :sad2:
Love those! :thumbsup2
Me too!
