The Hulk Intensity

Talk to me about The Hulk...I've watched the POV videos, but it's hard to get a good handle on how intense it is. I'm not a huge coaster lover, but can do all the WDW coasters with no issue...how much more of a "thrill" is it compared to those? I'm trying to psych myself up for it, but I don't want to get waaay out of my league. TIA!

Hi, also not exactly a coaster person, but I got up the courage and did Hulk anyway. I was really nervous, but it was awesome and I would have gone again if we'd had time! I would say it was 10/10 the most intense coaster I went on between Universal and Disney...it's like of like Rock N Rollercoaster, but much bigger, outside, and cranked up to 11 in terms of inversions and G-forces. Actually I think the launch is less intense than RnR, and the ride overall was quite smooth (unlike, say, Big Thunder Mountain). Go for it!

DH said I would have loved it! (I chickened out and regret it). I can do all of the coasters that are enclosed, it's the ones that are outside that I get really nervous for!

It is definitely much more intense than what you find in Disney. That being said, my younger cousin had been fearful of rollercoasters all his life and at age 15 when I took him to universal this was his first roller coaster ever and he loved it.

Its a high intensity coaster, more so than anything Disney has, but like most inverted coasters, its tempered a bit by the fact the ride is extremely smooth, and by the presence of the over shoulder harnesses which pretty much hold you secure to the seat, so you don't really get "airtime" like you can get with some other rides with less restraint to them. Its pretty much a fast, but smooth with loops/twists.

I don't know that its really any more intense than Aerosmith coaster. It is a fun smooth ride, I think I might like Aerosmith a bit better. I thought it wasn't as rough as RRR either.

I can't even fathom trying RRR...the idea of going up at a 90 degree angle freaks me out, not to mention the drop. I can handle the drops on EE because the big one isn't straight down, and the others are small. I LOVE the inversions and loops on RNR, but the ones on the Hulk look HUGE, so that's what makes me a little hesitant. I may save it for the end of the day because if it messes me up, at least I'll be going back to the room and can lie down afterward!

The hulk isn't an inverted coaster, Dragon Challenge was (well, it was 2 inverted coasters).

If you can ride Rock'n'Roller Coaster, you'll probably be fine on Hulk. It's a bit more intense, but not much more than that IMO.

I just had to come back and tell everyone that we DID IT! Finally rode The Hulk! We waited until the last night about an hour before close, just in case it messed with us. The verdict? We all LOVE IT!! Ran to get back in line as soon as we got off so we could ride it again. Luckily, we were staying at HRH, so we had an Express Pass and could ride before close. I feel so silly being such a baby about it now, but just wanted to say thanks for the encouragement!

Yay! I'm so glad you liked it! Hope you had a great trip!

Artygal90, we had a fantastic trip! Disney for 5 days then Universal for 3. The only bad part of it was that I left my bag unattended at the pool (it was 9:45pm and there were 10 people around) to go to the hot tub and someone stole it. It had my son's room key card, his park ticket with one day left and my video camera. The saving grace? I decided to take the memory card out of my camera before going down to the pool since I had just filled it that evening at the park, it had all the video from the week on it. I also put my son's lanyard in the bag because mine had 40 dollars in cash in it and I didn't think I'd need any $. God was totally with me that night! It wasn't any problem replacing his room key and park ticket. They don't have security cameras at the pool, so I won't be recovering my camera, but, lesson learned and I still had a good time.

Oddly enough, my son and I thought the start was less intense than RNR...maybe because we were already moving when we "took off" instead of going from a complete stop. Either way, I wish we had ridden it sooner!!

I was thinking of asking your exact questions so I'm happy you posted and came back to share your experience. For me - I don't like drops. I don't do Tower of Terror, but do RNR and EE no problem. If there is an outside coaster and I can see a big drop - I really hesitate. I will not even think about RRR - not for me. It took me forever to go on CA Screamin' and then I realized the drops turn a bit just like EE so it wasn't bad and I love it now. I know the rest of my family will love the Hulk - can you tell me about any drops, or if the bigger loops give you a "drop" like sensation?

I am EXACTLY the same way when it comes to drops! I can stomach the drops if there is a turn, no matter how slight...it's the straight down drops that kill me. I didn't get that sensation on ANY of the turns, drops or loops of The Hulk. Just sheer fun! There was one slight drop a little later in the ride, and I can't remember if there was a turn to it, but it didn't bother me, regardless, so I bet it wouldn't bother you either. Now I have gotten to where I can ride Splash Mountain and actually tried Jurassic Park River Adventure this time, so maybe my body is getting used to drops I would normally have freaked out on in the past, but I can promise you, you won't regret trying The Hulk!!

So funny - I do ride Splash Mtn but I still hate it. I do it for my kids and know it will be over quickly. I work on camera poses to distract me :) YEARS ago I rode Jurassic Park at Universal Hollywood. I should have paid more attention but I only saw the tail end of the hill and thought - I can do that. So i get on the ride and when we start climbing I start freaking out. I convince myself if my eyes are closed I won't even know when the drop is coming and I'll miss the first bit - and then there is the countdown 10...9... - I was REALLY freaking out now and I wasn't in the picture at all - I think I was curled up in a ball on the floor (pre-lapbars) but I honestly don't remember. I do remember every other ride the rest of the day - I would ask every person working the line and ride "Is there a drop?" Traumatized! I did try it again years later - again for the kids - and I still didn't like it - but the lapbar prevented chaos.

We must've been separated at birth, because in the SM ride pics (and in the Jurassic one, now) I'm scrunched up in a fetal position! It just isn't enjoyable to me.

The first half isn't too bad since it is large elements so is very smooth and more gentle transitions, it's fairly comparable to the start of RnRC. The back half of the ride is more intense though and can be a little jarring and pulls some Gs in it, but with the track rebuild the experience is smooth and isn't too long and still fun. The ride is definitely worth going on for the first half alone though. Even when it was rough I still loved it for that part.
