31st March 2004
Captain were one man down.
I woke up at about 06:00, shortly followed by Alison. Alexandra woke at about 07:00 and Laura struggled big time as she was in a really deep sleep. She said she didnt feel too good when she woke up - but we put that down to tiredness (OK - big mistake!!) Managed to get everyone up and dressed and arrived at Sizzlers on I Drive by 08:00 and it was very quiet apart from one or two people, including a lady of a certain age in an alarming 1970s sun dress!
Alexandra said that she really felt like we were in Florida now being in Sizzlers as its become part of our family tradition to visit here at least once.
2 adults, 2 kids, 2 coffees, 1 apple juice, plus obviously the enormous breakfast buffet -
Total charge $21 with coupon, however Laura ate nothing!
Drove back to PBH, sorted out our bags etc and caught the river taxi to Islands of Adventure for the day although Laura was still saying that she didnt feel particularly well. Poor Laura was really flagging badly and we were undecided what to do for the best. In the end we hired a stroller for her we hadnt done that since she was 3 in 1999!
Poor Laura basically stayed in the stroller all day (didnt do any rides at all) as we worked our way around the park anti-clockwise. We did Cat in the Hat, One Fish Two Fish, Duelling Dragons, Jurassic Park River Adventure and Spiderman. By now it was late morning and we decided to head back to the hotel to see if a nap for Laura would help. (Wed phoned up early in the morning to ask about a late check out for the room - and theyd said we could check out at 1pm). On the way back we caught the end of the X-Men live show all I can say is Hubba Hubba Laydeeesss!
Laura slept for about 1 hour while Alison packed and Alexandra and I made ourselves scarce by going for a swim.
Our overall opinion of PBH very well designed, superb theming and very understated and refined oozes quality wherever you look.
Shipped the luggage back to the car and back off to IOA - again via the water taxi. I have to say that the transportation is excellent at the Universal Hotels - it's usually a very short wait for a boat, and the waiting areas are very pleasant in any case.
We collected a stroller on the way as poor Laura really wasnt well at all and was sick a couple of times and could have done with lots more sleep in the room to catch up. We had arranged to meet up the Hunts at 3 pm to see how they were getting on and to arrange a restaurant to meet up in for the evening, but as things stood with Laura there was no way wed be able to make it.
However, we carried on - an ill child doesnt stop this family!! Put the child in the stroller with a plastic bag - and on we go!! On the way into IOA we stop to do the Hulk (or at least Alexandra and I do - were not so heartless as to leave Laura on her own!) Then we re did a few of our favourite rides until it was time to meet up with the Hunts - would they be having a good time in Florida we wondered?
We met up with them outside Cat in the Hat as planned - and phew! They were having a brilliant time! All the children (except Laura) went off to redo the Seuss Landing rides (should have said that the Hunts were staying in a villa for the 3 weeks, but had booked a night in the Hard Rock Hotel to take advantage of Front of Line Access). Bob wanted to do Duelling Dragons, but had no one to go on with him - so I offered, and Julie very kindly said that if Alison wanted to go as well she would stay with Laura. We jumped at the chance! (Well, she is a trained nurse after all! We bad parents can justify anything given enough time!)
Bob really enjoyed DD (as did we) but Laura was even worse by the time we got back! Shed been sick again (oops - sorry Julie!) good job she can cope with things like that!
Alison and Julie sat for a while having a chat (Laura fell asleep on Alisons lap for around an hour. Good job it was a very small nearly 9 year old - rather than Alexandra who is the size of a 12 year old!) while the rest of us went off and did some more rides.
We said our goodbyes and made a move back to PBH to collect the car from the dungeon. Goodbye Portofino Bay - well be back!
On the way back to Pop we pulled into Chilis on I Drive for a bite to eat. We love Chilis - good service, good food and excellent value!
Laura: - not surprisingly nothing to eat
Alexandra: Kids rib basket meal
Me: Mixed fajitas
Alison: Chicken and ribs
3 x soft drinks and 2 x Coffees
1 x dessert (some heavenly chocolate concoction) for Alexandra
Total cost $44 absolute bargain!
Laura started off by lying down on the booth seat and just sipping some ice cold water but by the end of the meal she was sitting up although deathly pale.
We drove back to Pop (to find another towel creation on the bed)
and by the time we arrived Laura was feeling a bit better and both girls wanted to go for a swim! We took some night time piccies around Pop Century
and then we wrapped up and sat by the pool drinking coffee keeping an eye on them until it was time to leave.
Back to room for an early-ish night, 8:30 for Laura and 10:00 for the rest of us. (Generally Alexandra went to bed at the same time as Alison and I throughout the holiday - she doesnt understand the concept of children going to bed before parents - LOL)
Weather - perfect again - blue skies, low to mid 80's.
Plan for tomorrow Itll depend on how Laura is feeling but probably Epcot for the day
