The Hat Has Left The Building

They should move it to Disney Springs.

Now that the Chinese Theater is such a focal point, hopefully the GMR will undergo its long-needed reno very soon.

With A new sponsor, hopefully we will see great things to improve and enhance the experience.

Was at DHS last night and just a small part of the hat structure is still there - not very visible and does not obstruct above the walls hardly any.

There are stories (myths? urban legends?) that the hat was placed there intentionally so that you couldn't get a good view of or photo of the Theater, as Disney and the actual theater owner were not seeing eye to eye. Not wanting the "enemy's" icon to become the focal point of the Studios, Disney "covered" it. The rift is over and the hat is gone. Not sure if any of that is true.
I was a CM at studios when the hat went up and this was the rumor going around. However I was an hourly CM so basically I knew less than nothing:rolleyes: Whatever the reason for it going up I'm thrilled to see it gone!:cool1:

Can't wait to get a different picture for the Archives....Plus the kids will be thrilled, because the old view of the theatre was such a short close up..It didn't do it any justice being that close.

Not to mention, theyre excited to actually see it again, now that they've done the real thing in Hollwood during our CA trip....I'm pretty sure walls should be down by August....Right? LoL

I'd be interested in finding out how the like the hat/like without the hat groups break down as far as their first visit goes - that is, first visit that they remember. I wonder if the majority of people who prefer the hat had their first trip after the hat was in place and if the majority of people who dislike the hat had their first visit before the hat was there.

It's sad looking without the hat :(

I kind of agree. I'm sure the view of the theater is great, but to me, go to Hollywood if you want to see the Chinese Theater. I'd rather see Walt Disney icons not reproductions of actual non-Disney icons.

The "Sorcerer's Apprentice" was and is a revolutionary cartoon short. I'd hate to see the symbol for that dumped into the trash and forgotten forever.

Anyway, judging from the responses here I am in the minority. Give me Sorcerer's or give me death! :)

I agree that that would affect one's nostalgia for it.

I also agree with a poster earlier who mentioned that it just seemed kind of shoehorned in there. I wouldn't have minded it so much if they'd put it in a less crowded area where it wouldn't block the view of a previously existing building, and possibly even as the face of a marquee attraction somewhere else in DHS that has been neglected.

So happy to see the original view back - what a beautiful sight! Can't wait to see it in person in October!

My first visit was before the Hat existed, and I'm pretty much indifferent to it being taken out. I'd gotten used to seeing it, sure, but I'm neither happy or upset that it's gone. lol

IMO I think the new view is bland, boring and isn't as "Disney" as the old view... I don't consider the replica of a theatre in LA a good "icon" or focal point of the park. I understand it was the "original" but that doesn't make it better. At least the hat was an original Disney icon. I hope they put something new up where the hat used to be... *Puts on fire resistant suit* :duck:

My first visit was hatless. I liked the visage of the park and the perspective of the street and theater much, much better without the hat.

Maybe Disney is going for realism and will be putting in a Hooters and a wax museum nearby, since that is what you see at the real Chinese Theater.

It would still be better (well, maybe not Hooters) than that giant monstrosity that was randomly stuck in the middle of the park. That area of the park was themed and built to replicate old Hollywood. So, yes, I think that the theatre is a way better view than the hat. I really don't have a problem with the hat itself. I like Sorcerer's Apprentice as much as the next person. It just looked totally out of place considering the theming of that area.

I'm glad the BAH is gone. It ruined the theming of Hollywood Blvd. The hat never really fit in to me.

I am holding out for fake Spiderman, Elvis, Marilyn, Betty Boop, Sponge Bob, and, of course, the most god-awful rendition of Mickey Mouse known to man.
