The Groovy New Pop Century FAQ Thread!

The complaints about loud guests & kids running around after midnight can really happen ANYWHERE at WDW, not just POP.
Exactly! The noise of other guests is not the nature of the resort, it is the nature of the guests themselves.

I stayed in Pop in Sept '05 for 7 nights. Out of the 7 nights, only one night did I hear the people next to me. They were obviously very drunk, but they quieted down just as I was about to call the front desk. (I listened to them for 2 hours before I said enough is enough.) Other than that I had no problems. All the rooms around me were full, but I never heard them. If you want to avoid noise, try asking for a room on the top floor.

As for the doors slamming...the doors slam on their own. They are made to close and lock themselves. In order to do that, they basically have to slam shut. So I bet most of the people didn't go around purposely slamming the doors. Some might have because they are just rude. Others probably didn't realize the doors don't quietly close.

Personally, I enjoyed Pop and would stay there again. I found the walk from just about every building to be reasonable, except the far 80's and the 90's buildings. I also thought the bus situation was far better than any other resort.

i'm one that loves pop!! it might be a little too late but have you checked out the fridge swaps on this board? we have always rented a fridge for our stay but it is okay when you check in to request one. the buses run great @ pop too!
have fun!

I can appreciate that not everyone likes Pop but this thread is not a review of POp but rather a place for people to get questions answered. Maybe the reviews could go in review threads.

Sorry if my post was in the wrong thread.

As for the noise, it wasn't caused by rude or exceptionally loud people. The doors DO slam on their own. And the people we heard were just having fun in the pool or walking by our room on the way to theirs. I guess it's just a loud resort by nature. After a day of fighting the crowds in the parks, I prefer a more laid back atmosphere. This was our 18th stay and I know all resorts have their pros and cons, but this was the first time the cons outweighed the pros.

Don't get me wrong. It's still Disney World. That alone makes it wonderful. It's not like the one Days Inn we stayed at where I made the kids sleep on towels rather than let the bedding touch their skin. :) I would definitely stay at Pop again rather than skip the trip entirely. The hotel just wasn't as "magical" as I was expecting it to be. I'd definitely pay the extra $10 for a preferred location and I'd request anywhere but the 50s, but that's just my opinion.

We stayed at Pop and LOVED it It was our first ever trip and DD said she would always want to stay there .We were on the 4th floor of the 60's not Pool side. I think if you request not Poolside you will find it much quieter. We had absolutely no noise problems! DD did kinda wish we were poolside so she could watch the kids from the balcony, but me I liked it just where we were!

I am trying to tie up loose ends and was wondering if there are change machines for laundry and the arcade? If there are do they just take ones? Thanks!

The laundry has a change machine that takes $1, $5 and one other denomination...I think $10. It was $2 a load to wash and $2 to dry. There's also a detergent machine w/a hidden Mickey on it.

The arcade machine will take different $ bills. You have to 'purchase' a card (versus getting quarters or tokens) that you then swipe in the game you want to play.

I was just going to add that Target has travel size liquid Tide and fabric sheets..I think they're around a dollar..next trip I'm going to put them in zippie bags and put in luggage..this might save a few bucks b/c you could get multiple washes out of them..:goodvibes

I saw those, but unfortunately we can't use tide. I am just going to pack a few of my dryer sheets and my Mom is bringing the detergent.

Did your Target have the travel sized Shout wipes? I picked up some of those for the trip. :)

ETA-Thanks for the answers about the change machines! :)

We're leaving in the morning!
I'm planning to post many pics in the Pop pics thread when we get back!

any advice on good buildings or rooms to ask for when we book? I guess we just want to be close to the buses. I am so excited. It is our frist time at POP and we are going in Jan 2008. I am just getting organised to make my ADR's at the moment.

thanks for your help.

I first would like to start out saying: "My goodness, all the negativity! You're at Disney World!" If you've ever travel any place else you would be saying "Disney World definitely knows how to treat their guests! No wonder over 100,000,000 visitors come every year!" Enough said.

Myself and my two grandsons will be arriving at Pop Century on August 17th. (DISNEYMOMFANATIC we will be there when you arrive.) We will be there for 17 days! This will be our first time at PC. We usually stay at the ASMusic which has become my favorite, but they could not accommodate us for that many days.

We have requested a ground floor preferred room. I use an electric wheelchair. When I come back midday to power up, IF I'm close enough to the pool and food court I can walk there, but if I'm too far away I'm chained to the room. A bummer for alot of days. At the music, they've always put me very close. PC does not know me. Any advice from those of you that have been there? It seems that more than "just" the rooms closest to the pool are preferred. I call the resort 7 days before we arrive and talk to the person that assigns rooms.

See you there!

What didn't you like about the 50's section? That's where we stayed and I thought it was a perfect location. The only reason I would request another area next time is just to have a different view but otherwise I thought it was perfect.

I've posted this before but I'll say it again. Noise also has a lot to do with your tolerance level, I guess is the best way to put it. Or how light a sleeper you are. When we were at Pop our best friends and their two kids were right next door. One morning they complained they were kept awake till 1:00 or 2:00 AM by noise from the pool and we had slept just fine. Didn't hear a thing.

We totally loved Pop and will definitely stay there again. We were 2 adults and 2 teens in a room for 8 nights and never felt like we were falling all over each other or cramped. Our last trip we stayed at a FW cabin and had much more room but we preferred Pop by far. I hope everyone has as much fun there as we did!

Personally, I don't think the resort gives you many walks that are all that far. We were in 50s Building C with a lake view on our last trip. We were maybe 5 minutes at the most to the busses, and that was with a 4 year old.

If you have troubles walking, I can understand that some walks may be considered longer but otherwise you shouldn't have any problems. Even in the 80s and 90s, you can cut along the edge of the parking lot to make the walk a bit quicker to the busses.

we stayed at POR at couple years ago.. and it was a long walk to get anywhere...I was very impressed with how POP was laid out so that busses/food court were centered.. oh well.. it works for us..:goodvibes

I stumbled across this site the other day and am having a LOT of fun with it...
local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=nqrj9d863zsn&style=o&lvl=1&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=5221607

when you enter the above link, you see the Generation Gap Bridge. Drag the map, and you can view the entire resort, zoom, and even change angles. I've found it to be a GREAT site for figuring out where to stay... and how far parking, buses and dining are.:yay:

Wow, I am too a bit worried about some of the replies I have been reading. I guess as so meone said there are always ups/downs with every resort. This will be our 1st stay at POP. We arrive on 8/25. I have a few questions: 1. can I ask for a fridge, 2. Is there and Iron, hair dryer, coffe pot in the rooms. 3. if none of the above can any of these be requested.

I must say the dryer is really weak as well. so you may want to bring your own still.

I just didn't care for room decor. Not a big deal, but if I was going to stay there again I'd like to try something different. Like I said before, my kids loved the bowling pin pool. The whole area was themed very nicely.
