What can you tell me about the bus ride to DTD? How long is the ride? What time do the buses start running? How frequently do they run?

Much thanks! ::MinnieMo

I don't remember the bus ride to DTD being very long at all, maybe 15 mins. I read on another thread that the buses start about 7:30am & run every 15 to 20 mins. Always allow about 1 hour travel time just in case.

We have a small bar fridge that we bought several months ago which we'd like to bring with us for our trip to POP. Do you think there would be any problem doing this? Saves the $10/night charge...

We are planning to do the same thing!!! :teeth:
I read some where in this thread that you are able to do this.
Any one know for sure?

I just got back form a 12/10-14 visit. I thought Pop was great! We were in the 70's, second floor, bldg 6, rm 6238, lake view. If you see a picture of our building, we were right under the "4" in the 10-4 Good Buddy sign on top of the bldg. Our room was second from the end, so the stairs were right there.
Room was smallish but clean. There was a big wet spot right in front of the TV; we just put down a hand towel, and it was dry by the next morning.

On our second day, we had a towel "animal" in our window! Well, I think it was supposed to be a basket w/ holly and berries, so it wasn't actually an animal :teeth: . I saw lots of towel creations in people's windows - Chirstmas trees, butterflies, bears, etc.

We did hear the turbo toilets and showers above us if the bathroom door was open, but if it was closed it was no big deal. Never heard any people or TVs that I remember.

I never went into the food court. My sis went one morning for coffee and milk and said it was a zoo! We went in the gift shop a couple of times briefly. They had all their 2005 dated merchandise (except pins and holdiay stuff) for half price, as did all other resorts and DTD.

Check-in was quick. Luggage was a bit tricky. We drove over to the dropoff and someone came over to help us. I thought you couldn't get carts until she handed me a slip to sign about if the cart was not returned I would be charged $250. Oops! I then told her I wanted them to do the dirty work :rotfl:, so she moved everything over to the caged carts no problem. It was nice to know that you can get the carts if you want. We had too much stuff, though, and we wanted to get to Typhoon Lagoon before it closed. We dropped our stuff off around 2:15 or so. When we got back to our room around 5 PM, it was all there.

Concierge was mostly helpful. They were able to change a Wed lunch ADR for me from Crystal Palace to Plaza Restaurant (yummy! gotta go back here next time!), and they quickly upgraded our park tickets from 4 day hoppers to 10 day premium (for only $178 each!!!). She also checked us out so I didn't ahve to go stand in the other line. We were set up for express checkout but never got our envelope. Only problem I had w/ them was trying to find urgent care places. I had a sinus infection and needed some drugs bad on Tuesday. Only place they could point me was to CentraCare, which did not take my insurance (didn't know this when I was asking aobut the place). They could not give me names of any others, and when I asked to use the phone book, they looked at me like I had 2 heads! Guess they didn't understand why I didn't want to go to CentraCare since it was so close and they would pick me up. Well, I had my own car, and I wanted choices in case one didn't take my insurance. When I called my insurance co before going, thye said no on the CentraCAre, and I couldn't find anything w/ a zip code on it for them to find another place, so I just went there. At least Walgreens was across the street, who did take my insurance! Oh, well, not everything can be perfect, i guess.

I liked Pop very much and would not hesitate to stay here again.

Glad you had a good stay at POP. We are currently reserving a 60's preferred room, we stayed in 50's last time. The only reason for doing this is because we have later check in (probably around 7-8 that night) and I don't want to be stuck in 80's or 90's. If I do change it I will request 50's or 70's again, but what buildings in those sections are closest to EVERYTHING POP? Any help with this would be great so I could note it on our ressie.

OK, totally subjective question... For those that have stayed at the Pop, what is your favorite building and why?

I've been eying the 50's bldgs

Our first trip was in the 70's & we thought it was great - until our second trip. :flower: This time we were in 50's Building 3 2nd floor pool side, and it wonderful. We never even used the elevator because the stairs were so close to the main hall & we only had one flight to go up. We're going back next year & have requested this building.

So help me guys. I just cancelled the 60's preferred, just don't want to pay the extra 10 bucks a night. I looked at the map and requested 70's building 10 (bigwheel) or 50's building 1 (Lady) because on the map they look closest to everything pop. I also had them write " as close to everything pop as possible' on the ressie. I am confused though because the previous poster said 50's building 3 was very close, which is closer?? I'm trying to decide what to have on my request.

THANKS!!!

Bldg 1 is a tad bit closer. Check out the Pop Cent. map on page 1 of this thread, about 1/2 way down the page. It is possible to be in bldgs. 1 or 3 and be quite a bit farther than the poster described, if you are on the back side of either, BUT we were on the side of bldg. 2, and we still thought it wasn't a bad walk. :)
Having them put close to everything pop is the key, I think.
Have a great time!

We want to come back to the POP in '06, if anyone was there this year during Thanksgiving weekend, can you tell me what it was like? The crowds for example, did it seem busier 'cause of the 50th or about the same? Thanks!

I wouldn't count on requests being granted. Also, there's a lot more to building 10 than near the bigwheel. It's still a bit of a hike to the buses from the back side. That's where we finally ended up. (See my post a page or two back).

We just returned from 12/22-12/28 stay. I requested 2 non-smoking connecting rooms in Tramp, with view of lake if possible in quiet area, top floor....and got all my requests! Our room location was very close to the main building, about halfway down the "hall" in the wing closest to Everything Pop. Equal distance the opposite way was the elevator (near the TRAMP icon), which we rarely used, since we did the buses, etc. The Bowling Pin pool was on the opposite side of the building. We were closer to the main building than some portions of the 60's buildings. My only regret was requesting top floor. Those 4 floors of steps were a hassle at times, but I thought top floor would be quiet and it was....but maybe the lower floors would have been quiet too.
After staying deluxe for many years, I was concerned - no need. The bus service was good, we received all our requests and we had no issues at all.

We just returned from the Pop after staying a week for Christmas vacation. We were in the 50's bldg and had friends in the 70's. We managed to get all our requests met, however, we have a friend who works at the check-in and she said you can never count on getting your requests (as one previous post mentioned) met. They do the best they can but sometimes there are valid reasons they cannot meet somebody's requests. You can ask for what you would like, and if possible they will generally will provide. Sometimes the rooms closest to the food court are filled, and you just have to be flexible.

The 70's was not at all far from the food court. Some bldg's are closer to the lake than the food court, but the walk isn't bad. The same is true for the 50's bldg as some rooms are very close to the lake and some close to the parking lot with others closer to the bus. The parking is a little nutty, with no good parking close to the 60's wing (which we have had an excellent room in, and where we have had a not so excellent room in). One problem we had with the 60's was the constant smoking in the non smoking wing. We could smell it through the vents. It was not pleasant. :confused3

But, I love the POP!

Just returned from a 12/25 to 1/01 stay & I must say it was really really crowded. We got one of the farthest rooms you can possibly get from Everything POP but I guess that's what you get when you check in after 11pm on Christmas night. The buses were packed & almost always SRO, but timely nonetheless. The food court was a mob-scene & much more crowded than it was in August. Still found the room to be quiet, maybe it's because we always end up in a back room near the parking lot? That's starting to get old. I would've requested something else, but the CM insisted our bags may already have been delivered to the room we were assigned. Of course they weren't & we waited over an hour till we could finally get in our PJ's and go to sleep. By then it was 1am and we were never so happy to see our luggage. We got really cute towel presents that we placed in our window with some decorations we brought with us. It was nice to arrive back at night & see our window so festive. The CM's were even nicer than usual (if that's possible). All in all still think POP is fun, but I don't think we'll be rushing back for Christmas week.

I have heard that Pop has it's own buses and that they do not stop at other resorts. Is this true?

I'm so confused. *sigh* :confused3

I've booked a preferred room, ground floor, pool view...I was slightly concerned about foot traffic and noise levels but my DM (who has stayed there before) assured me that it will be minimal. I don't really want to fork over $10 extra a night so I can hear a bunch of teenagers screaming at each other...has anyone had any trouble with foot traffic or noise levels in preferred rooms, ground floor, pool view? I'm half tempted to call disney now and change it to lake view 50s tramp...lol

please help me make up my mind!! :goodvibes

:sunny: The noise level is not too much different from other rooms when the door is closed. They do a fairly good job of insulating those rooms. But it is loud when you open to the pool, however, we have only stayed in the 60's ground floor facing the pool in the summer. It will probably be better in the winter.

There is no guarantee that you will get a pool facing room though, keep that in mind. According to a cast member friend of mine, they do the best they can depending on occupancy.

Enjoy :teeth:
PS - There is a fair amount of foot traffic, obviously as this is a direct route to the lake. The rooms facing the pool are close to the food court though! :cheer2:

We're arriving in 24 days!!! It will be myself, DH, DS 13, DS 9 and DD 17 months. We have on ressie connecting non smoking with frig in one room. ( I know we will have to pay more) I like the idea of tramp 50's bldg upper floor facing fireworks. Pool time will be minimal for us. This seems to be a frequent request here on these boards. do I just ask at check in? How much of the fireworks can you see since there are no balconies? Do you just watch from the windows in your room? I'm not sure we have to see the fireworks, so if thisis the case, should I just ask for something close to everything POP? I know we want an upper floor because DD is terror with noise and hotels. We want it quiet. We're hoping the sleep machine will help!

We stayed in the 50's bldg for our Christmas vacation, and I walked up to the 4th floor to watch the fireworks at Illuminations whenever I was at the hotel. Each bldg has places on the fourth floor where the fireworks can be seen, and I also saw part of the fireworks (Fantasmic) at MGM. The best viewing spots are the sections of the bldgs facing the parking lot for the 50's.
Ask when you check in for a location where you can walk out and view the fireworks. I don't know if you can view them from the rooms on the 4th floor, perhaps in the furthest bldg from Everything Pop. Maybe somebody else knows. You can even see a few high rising fireworks from the lake area!
Have a blast :teeth:
