The Groovy New Pop Century FAQ Thread!

I am just posting to highly recommend staying at Pop Century if you're considering staying at a value resort. A friend of mine stayed there recently with her daughter and loved it. We stayed at Movies recently and let me tell you- they MEAN what they say about the buses coming more often. Every single place we waited for a bus at the parks and DTD there were far many more Pop Century buses than the ones for THREE value resorts combined (All Star resorts ofcourse). There was never more than a few (and I do mean like a couple of people up to ONE family) in line that I saw- for Pop Century and they never waited long to be picked up. I wish we'd stayed at Pop Century! We would have saved a lot of bus line time!

For those of you that have had the fridges for medicines did they give you the small dorm sized ones or were they smaller? We have it noted on our reservation for medical reasons. One CM told me it would be the dorm size one and another told me that it was not. Any idea?

Mine was a medically necessary fridge and it was the small dorm size. I was at POP in January 05 and just in June 05 and both of them were the same size. Earlier I posted all of the things I was able to put in there with my medicine (which comes in a box approx. 6"x9"x2"). Hope that helps. :)

For those of you that have used the hair dryers that were recently installed at POP, how are they? I have thick, long hair that takes a while to dry which is why I am asking. Do they dry your hair quickly or do they blow more slowly? Sorry if this seems like a trivial question, but if the hair dryer at POP is decent, then I don't have to pack my big hairdryer from home in August! :flower:

Thanks for any info you can provide! :goodvibes

They aren't that great. They are ok for me because my hair is short. I still have to style mine and I don't like that they don't have a lot of heat (it's hot but just not hot enough for me) or blow at a fast speed like the one I have at home. I just live with it though because I have a huge hairdryer too. Hope this helps.

Hi all...........

Thanks so much for the info on the fridge. We are staying 10 nights so I think I'll just buy one. It wouldn't be worth the $100 that I would have to pay. I don't need alot of stuff but I'd like to have some milk, cheese.fruit etc................. :goodvibes

This goes out to all of you driving and taking a cooler. DH and I purchased an electric cooler at Target a few years ago for about $90. It's great! It is the size of a regular cooler and plugs into the lighter outlet in our vehicle. We also had to purchase a $30 adapter to be able to plug it into the wall in our hotel room. It has been worth every penny! We have used it on several WDW trips and on shorter trips just taking food to my parents or something. It's great not having to worry about ice. We're able to put a gallon of milk and a bunch of pop, sandwiches (for the drive down), DH's medicine, and fruit and yogurt inside very easily. We had it plugged in for 14 straight days last year at WDW, and it didn't skip a beat. We're flying out in the morning for POP, so we had to request a medical fridge for DH's prescription this year, but the cooler is way worth the money! :flower:

Thanks for the info. :flower: I'm not sure what I'll do yet, but I am thinking of just dealing with it since it will cut down on the "stuff" I have to pack.

We checked in on Wednesday June 8 around 11am. The line for checkin was 15 family deep and I do mean long. I thought oh-no here we go with the waiting game, but was I wrong. Only took total 15 min from line entry to being completly checked in. WOW that was service. Our rooms was not ready but was given a number to call after 3pm and they should be ready. The CM that checked us in was very nice he stated "I see you need Non-smoking for medical needs. You got it. The room is also connecting as you requested." Great got what we wanted. I booked 2 rooms (the first room DH DS7 DS14 myself, Second room DS18 and girlfriend18 is how they split the room so we wouldn't have to pay extra fee for the adult.) in doing so DS18 had to check in also. I thought this was strange since I was the one responsible for the payment. Had to have DH find DS18 to finish checking-in because he was looking around the arcade and gift shop. With that delay in check-in it was still only 15 min. We were given the 50's right under the jukebox room 2146 and 2147. We went to find our rooms and park our van in the 50's parking lot. We were on the first floor 2nd and 3rd door past the jukebox door facing the lake. Nice and close to the rear 50's parking lot which was less crowded. The rooms were not ready but were easy to find.

We called at 3:30 and the rooms were ready off to Move in to our new home.
Our rooms was nice and clean. Iron and iroing boards in both rooms. Hair dryers installed in both rooms. Once you set the reset button on the hairdryer they became a nightlight. Dresser had 3 large drawers, 3 small drawers, and three shelves lots of space plus the top. Also held a TV with front hookup ports. Bath soap, facial soap ,and shampoo in little bottles Ya!! We were glad to see no despencer in the shows like the ASMo had in 2003. I forgot to order frig called and was delivered in 10 min. along with 6 extra towels which we didn't ask for. What a nice touch from the housekeeping crew. Extra Kudos for her service. We did receive 2 towel art while there. One was a bunny and the other was an Arial Purse which was to cute.

On to the buses. Well they were excellant only waited 10 min or less. It seemed even at park closing there were lined but moved us out fast. That being said we have stayed at the YC, POR, and ASMo and the POP had the best bus service we have ever had. With a close 2nd from POR.

Noise level: We didn't here any noise from the pool area but had some foot traffic slapping feet and talking. Nieghbors in the next room went to PI several nights getting in at 3am woke us up a couple of times. Did hear toilets flush. showers being taken, things being dropped in tub, but nothing we weren't able to get use to once we were exhausted from a full day in the parks. We also had brought our fan from home to drown out noises and it worked great.

Refillable mugs were great. Icee were not very good but everything else was.
We ate several meals here and everyone agreed the pizza was not good. DH also had the sloppy-joe and said it was different but not bad. We didn't care for the green beans to many onions and we like onions. The buttermilk fried chicken, shrimp lo mein, burgers, chicken strips, chicken noodles, and BBQ pork dinner was all great. Kids big breakfast and cinnimon rolls also good.

Check-out Saturday June 18 no wait walk right up a 630am done in 2 min.

Sorry so long winded. We had a wonderful time and would stay here again. But so little time so many resorts to choose from and we have plenty to go before we chose a final destination of the best resort for us. Where should we try next year? Maybe GF. One can dream can't she.

Thanks Momof2sons for the great report! When did you request the connecting rooms? When you made the reservation or a few days before you went? I need to do that and I'm not sure when the best time to do that is.

I made all my request when I first booked our stay over the phone with Disney reservations.

Since they don't have bell service how do they take care of your luggage? Our departure time isn't until 9 pm and we are flying on Delta. Thanks!

I have not used DME yet, but it is my understanding that you would take your luggage to the lobby and since you are on Delta you can check in with them in the lobby. I guess they have a room that they would store it in until closer to your flight time.

Geety - I saw your post and that is what sparked my ? about the fridge. I wasn't sure if you had paid for the fridge or requested it for medical reasons. Thanks so much! I am hoping it will be the dorm size one so that we can put a few things in there to keep cool in the room for after the parks. Thanks again!

Does anyone know where the closest grocery store locations are if by traveling by car? The types of items I'm looking for are things like milk, cereal, fresh fruit, bread, cold cuts and canned soups.
Thank you
