The Groovy New Pop Century FAQ Thread!

You could request it BUT its not guaranteed that you'll get it. They always tell you they will try to grant requests but its not guaranteed so I say go ahead and try..

1. I have heard there are microwaves/toasters in the food court. Is it okay to use them for food not purchased there? Is there a crazy line for these in the am?

2. About how long does it take to get to the closer of the water parks?

3. How do I get to the HDDR? How long will it take?

4. I am so confused by all this talk of requesting rooms...I am not paying for preferred...is there anywhere that I can find pros and cons of each building/area? I just don't want to walk a mile in the morning to the food court for coffee, and I want the best bus stop access I can get. I don't really care about anything else, but I do need adjoining rooms. What is my best bet?

5. I understand there are tons of handicap rooms, and that they include free refrigerators? Does anyone request one of these rooms for that purpose?

Thank you!

1. Yes, it's okay to use the microwaves/toasters in the food court to heat your self-provided food (but you might want to defer to someone who's trying, for example, to reheat the Mickey waffles they obviously bought there - not walk away, just let them go first).
2. Offhand, about ten minutes - to, I think, Typhoon Lagoon (via Disney transportation; may vary if you drive).
3. Drive to Fort Wilderness, park at entrance, take bus to HDDR (no personal vehicles allowed if not staying at FW) or bus to MK then boat to Fort Wilderness. Allow about 60 - 75 minutes including wait time.
4. See the resort map on page one of this thread. No room is more than about a seven minute stroll from Classic Hall.
5. While there are a reasonable number of accessible rooms at Pop Century, please do not request one solely for the goal of getting a free refrigerator, especially at busy times. You may be depriving someone who NEEDS that room for accessibility.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered but I couldn't find it on a search. Can someone post a link to the POP resort map? The one on Our Laughing Place is not working. Also, which buildings/rooms are considered preferred?
I know somebody posted a link to a map, but there's one on the first page of THIS thread (along with a slew of other information).
SOME rooms in each of the 50s, 60s and 70s buildings are now designated "preferred" while OTHER rooms in these seven buildings, along with ALL the buildings in the 80s and 90s, are now designated "standard".

Sorry but I think he was wrong. I believe as of May 1 Some of the 50's 60's and 70's are now preferred.

That bites!!! That leaves what only the 80 and 90? I think that ridiculous!

Does anyone know if you can call guest services and request a specific room?
You can request anything - call CRO (not Guest Services, not the resort) NOW and add requests to your reservation. But if you request, say, room 1108 or something in that vicinity and for whatever reason that whole building, or floor, or section, is occupied, you're out of luck.

Thanks for the response. I certainly didn't mean I would imply that I was handicapped--it just appears that there are a huge # of handicap access. rooms and guests that don't require them must be assigned them all of the time. Just wondering if that was true about the fridge, and thought maybe you could volunteer to take the handicap room.

One trip I requested a room with a king size bed and was given a handicapped room. Luck of the draw I guess since I didn't ask for handicapped.

kcrew,
It hasn't been confirmed that each handicap room has a refrigerator. I do know that refirgerators are available for medical purposes. If they are all 'out', then any medication requiring refrigeration can be kept at the Front Desk.

Keep in mind that a handicap room will not that a tub - just a roll-in shower. That makes a difference for families with little ones. :)

We have had no problem using the microwaves at the food courts - typically with bags of popcorn brought from home. We eat breakfast in the room, so I don't know about the morning crowds. These are 'industrial' style microwaves - popping popcorn only takes 1:45 minutes! (Just in case the items you are bringing need a time 'difference')

Enjoy Pop!

kaytieeldr,
excellent response!

This may have been asked before but I will ask anyways. I have looked numerous times at the POP Century resort map and when I book I would like to request a certain building. If I said 50's Tramp is that good enough?? Or should I request a building number? Are the building numbers the first number listed for a room number? I hope this doesn't sound confusing! TIA!

Beth

Oh thanks! I misunderstood. I just knew it sounds crazy to have all three of those buildings be preferred..

kcrew - was upgraded to a king room last month - and there was no refrigerator in the room. Just an FYI!

Thanks, the fridge isn't crucial (not worth 10/day to me). I think I will just request my adjoining rooms and "as close to Classic Hall/bus stops as possible" and let the cards fall as they may.

Does anyone know how to get to the HDDR on Disney transportion. Can someone direct me to a complete resort map/transportion links?

Also. 1st page of this thread lists travel time to TL as "6-12 Min depending on route". Can someone clarify this? Also is BB really 6 min as listed?

Thank you.

I understand that some rooms in 50's, 60's, and 70's buildings are preferred. At the time I reserved there were no preferred rooms available. I did request to be as close to Classic Hall and busses as possible as I have severe back problems. Do any of you Pop veterans know anything else I can do? I plan to call resort that a.m. to reiterate request. Anything else?

Thanks!

Yes, but see Page Two of this thread for a floor plan and an explanation of the building/room numbers (they're in the same post, I think about halfway down the page).

Driving or Disney transportation?
I can't do you a map, but if you're driving, follow the signs to the Magic Kingdom. As you approach the Toll Plaza, stay to the right - not the VERY far right booth (that's for buses and CMs) but the one next to it. Tell the CM you're going to Fort Wilderness (or Hoop De Doo). Once inside, follow the signs to Fort Wilderness. Park in the lot at/near/just inside (never been there) entrance and board the internal bus. I think there are actually two, but there should be signage; if not, ask the bus driver - or anybody standing around apparently waiting for, well, a bus.
Disney transportation: Take the bus from Pop to the Magic Kingdom. Walk toward the park, but veer left. Board the (marked) boat for Fort Wilderness. Get off at FW, walk to Hoop De Doo. Should take about 67 minutes.

kcrew - are you looking for adjoining (as in - next to each other) rooms or connecting rooms (doorway opens inside between each room)? Be sure to specific connecting if you want interior access room to room. :)

There is no direct Disney transportation route from POP to HDDR. The most direct way is to take the POP bus to MK. Don't enter MK but instead, take the boat to Fort Wilderness for HDDR. You should give yourself 60-90 minutes to make the trip since you don't know when the bus/boat will be arriving.

Clarifying the bus time to TL... In the mornings, the bus goes to TL first and then Dowtown Disney. Not such the exact time they switch, but later in the day, the bus going to DTD (making two stops - one at the Marketplace and one on the West Side) and then goes to TL.

Going to BB, 6 minutes seems fast, but again this is a 2 stop route. The bus goes to BB and then to AK. Remember these are estimates of driving time and don't include loading/unloading time.

I forgot to add this map! Sorry! (sorry for the above typos but I wasn't going back in to edit with the server problems!)

http://www.willcad.org/maps/misc/wdw_trans_m.jpg This is the most current one I found. You should note that POP is by the Wide World of Sports Complex (across the way). Hope this helps!

Thanks so much for the replies. 67" to HDDR, now that's precise! Sounds like spending some time at MK and then heading to HDDR from there is a good plan. If I headed for the MK exit about an hour before our 5:00 show should that be sufficient or cutting it too close?

Yes, I want CONNECTING rooms and thanks for pointing that out because I have been using adjoining interchangeably and sure enough my reservation says adjoining! Oops, I guess I can just correct that when the request fax is sent....

3 Questions

1. Does the food court area have a store where you can buy milk/newspapers?

2. If I have a reservation for the crystal palace at 8:25am do they have character breakfast busses before 8:00 am or will I have to arrange for a taxi?

3. I didnt see it on allearsnet so im guessing they dont, but does the pool have a bar?

Yes you can buy milk and newspapers. The buses start running about 7:15 for the character breakfasts--have your ADR# with you for access to the park. Lastly, I'm pretty sure there is a bar by the Hippy-Dippy pool. I think it was called Petals or something. Somebody help me out on that one.

the pool bar at Pop is called Petals, $5.35 for a 16oz Bud, $7.20 for a shot of Jag, mixed drinks $8-9,, 2 tv's, 6 stools

Just to be clear I did say SOME of the rooms are preferred. I think that is what you were trying to point out. :)

Sorry I havnt figured out yet how to post using partial quotes. I was just trying to point out to [/B]Bluejasmine[/B] and kaytieeldr that I did say SOME of those rooms are now preferred. I think that is what kaytieeldr was trying to point out :)
