They are open 24 hours tonight to report. I spoke with a CM they had closed down the two pools for cleaning last night...i took loads of pictures of ducks in the flower pool at 6am this morning I can't imagine the duck poop in that pool ! lol

good to know! :) :)

Thanks! . . . and eww. Of course they've been swimming in a river, so I guess a little duck poop won't hurt the kids.

Thanks! Is it good to spend 1/2 in DTD? I wanted to go but wasn't sure if I would spend a lot of time down there. It's only me (21) & my boyfriend (22). Don't know if there's a lot for us to do other than shop!

You definitely want to hit DTD, but get a brochure. There are brochures for DTD and even for the Boardwalk area that are a map with numbers and letters indicating what is there. The marketplace at DTD is mostly all shopping with some great restaurant choices. The West side has entertainment plus some restaurants. The House of Blues is there on the West Side as well as that club that looks like a giant pineapple (I almost expect Sponge Bob in there). I think its called Bongos and owned by Gloria Estefan. Cirque de Solel is over there, as is DisneyQuest and a big movie theatre. Ridemakerz is taking up part of the old Virgin Megastore. Pleasure Island is sorta still there. Lots of the clubs closed, but there is stuff there. They're going to re-imagine it. Naturally. Its worth going to, but get that brochure so you know where you want to go. Its so wide that you can't just walk around and expect to just view it all. Oh, Planet Hollywood is on the west side too. Planet Hollywood is not a bad place to eat. Its super noisy though because they have a DJ and that place echoes or something. :upsidedow

I love DTD...to shop and just walk around. I just love the atmosphere and usually head to DTD the first day of a trip. We don't usually hit a park on our first day since it's not a full day (usually arrive early afternoon and check in at the resort first), so we head to DTD for some shopping and a meal. It's just a great way to start off our trip.

thanks everyone! It's kinda hard planning what to do the first day! Maybe DTD sounds like a good idea, or AK since you don't need a full day there anyway.

Hm? I disagree. I think Animal Kingdom can very much be a full day park. If you really take the time to explore and enjoy all the shows and exhibits you'll find it takes at least a full day to enjoy most of it. We usually spend the least amount of time at DHS, but in August, we took time and visited shows that we had never seen. We took time to watch the street party, visited with the Streetmosphere people, did things we usually skip. We actually spent at least 3 or 4 partial days in that park.

If AK is just not your thing, and there aren't that many exhibits and rides that you'd enjoy, then you could do a half day there, but I really think this one is a morning starter. If you come later in the day, you'll miss fastpasses for Expedition Everest and maybe Kali River Rapids. Also, later in the day the Kilamanjaro Safari lines get very long. Don't forget to explore the back-story behind dinoland. I'll have to find the blog on that. Its fun when you know the back-story. Here is it... http://land.allears.net/blogs/jackspence/2009/08/chester_and_hesters_dinorama.html

Downtown Disney was always our choice when we arrived later in the day, especially in the late fall and winter when the parks close earlier.

I have stayed at POP many times, but now my DS17 is dying to stay in either 80's or 90's section:confused3

Is there a good room/area? Just seems so far away.

Thanks
brooke :goodvibes

Oh yea, I so exicted me and DS17 missed going to Disney in 2010, so we are going Feb28-Mar 5 2011.
for 5 days and try and go back again in late fall.

Since the resort is really so compact, its NOT really that far. If you walk around the front along the sidewalk by the parking lot, 80's and 90's are quite close to the buses. Its not really a bad area at all. I had to explain to my DD8 that the "cell phones" that are the 90's stairwells are "old fashioned" cell phones. She didn't "get" what they were!!:confused3 LOL:lmao:

Thank you both! We previously had a standard room booked, but when they opened up free dining I had to change to a preferred. I hadn't thought of calling back to see if I can switch back to a standard.

You could ask for 70's, 4th floor, those rooms seem to be al ittle more out of the way. Or you could jsut ask for a standard room, even though you paid for preferred.

I'm staying at Pop-for the first time (usually stayed at All-Stars). I'm leaving Feb 28-March 7. How is the weather usually? Is it shorts, capris, or pants weather? Have no clue what to pack! I've only gone in October, thanks!

I have gone the last 3 trips around this time..2 the first week of March and 1 the second week. The weather can be really iffy. We basically just watched the weather forcast and packed a variety. I will wear shorts even in the cold, but I always keep a sweatshirt if needed. One trip we were wearing winter coats one evening. Other trips it was in the high 80's all the tiem, but evenings really cooled off.

Oh man, I've read it was opened 24 hours, I was looking forward to that! Hopefully it changes by March, when I go.

I have been in March 3 times, and as far as I know it never was open 24 hours, but I think some people will go in even after it is supposedly closed. Also that time of year, the evenings get quite cool, so not sure if you want to be swimming too late.

I believe there were posts earlier in the summer announcing the pools were open 24 hours and it also states that in post #1.

Yeah, but I'm not sure if it's a summer thing or year round.

As of last week when I was there 9/11/10 to 9/18/10 the Pop Century pools were open 24 hours. Whether those hours have already changed, I am not sure. But I do remember that the pools were not open 24 hours during the same period of September 2009.

I know that when I was there in Jan. '09 the pools closed at midnight.

Last month my DD7 had a hard time getting that they were cell phones too. She was also convinced that the 8-track tapes were dental floss.

Oh my word...dental floss? WOW, as if I wasn't already beginning to feel old, now I really really feel old. :rotfl:
