This is not true - Disney, like most hotels right now, has an ongoing issue with bedbugs at every resort. It would be very misleading to tell someone there is no problem. We must all be proactive as the resort cannot do anything to prevent bedbugs as it is guests who bring the critters. I would not have my luggage put in the bathtub - even a bathroom can have bedbugs. They can be in TV's, light sockets, almost anywhere. In the bathroom the eggs can be left on the shower curtain. YUCK!!

I am so freaked out by bedbugs, but keep telling myself that the far majority of people go home WITHOUT bedbugs, so we will check very carefully and if we do get them at Disney we know they will take care if verified while there.

p.s. Here's how nutty I am and why I'm keep well informed - late last November I was at the VWL with a friend and totally paranoid about bedbugs. We packed all of our clothing in large Ziploc bags and checked the drawers carefully, but kept out clothes in the bags in the drawers. I took home my dirty clothing in a plastic zip lock bag too. When I got home, took out my cloths and washed everything, but left the suitcase in a big lawn bag in the garage for weeks. I wasn't taking any chances!

But the first couple of ngts at VWL, it was hard for me to go to sleep as I kept dreaming about bedbugs.

After talking with my college buddy who is an exterminator in Orlando and has helped with bedbug problems in many of the hotels in Orlando, he said he has been really impressed with how Disney has handled the problem and what they are doing to avoid the problem. He is the one suggested to me if I was unsure to put the suitcase in the bath tub and not leave it outside the door (if there is carpet outside the door), since they love matteresses, clothes, anything made of cloth. He also mentioned that the bedbugs do like laptops that are used often due to the warmth of the laptop.

Bedbugs are least likely to be in the tub due to the material of which the tub is made.

Also, he recommends buying suitcases that are hard sided and that snap close. No zippers!

We are from Florida, so we will be driving. We do not have bed bugs in ANY part of our house. So, if I end up bringing them back with me, then most likely they came from the resort we are staying at!

I'm with Minnie&nana, I'm not taking any chances! I guess we'll leave our stuff in the car until we can actually get into our room!

Bought one years ago for exactly that reason.

A Christine well knows the Group Home I supervise had an investation , I learnt a lot in those few days !!I can a dd a tip or two !! Always check the mattress and boxsprings around the edges at the top and bottom and around the frame , IF you see they mattres/ boxspring in a zippered tight mess cover this GOOD as they are what the exterminators recommend as they seal in the bugs and they cannot spread and so will die !! Another tip was OFF the exterminator sprayed himself with OFF every day , this stops the bugs from getting on yor clothes ( insect repellant) it does not exterminate them !! The Hotel in Lake George I stayed in had the bed bug covers on the beds and I wad VERY happy to see this !!

I wonder why more hotels do not invest in bed and box-spring covers. I know bedbugs can be in other parts of the room, but their favorite hiding place is the bed waiting for victims!

Since the OFF doesn't kill them, what does it do for the drawers, Rosie?

I assume as you have first checked them and seen no bugs it repels them from getting in ther afterwards !!
I agree while I am sure the covers are expensive for all the beds , I can't imagine that it would not be cost effective in the long run !! I know how expensive extermonators are !!

I have to admit, this bedbug conversation is freaking me out! I don't know anyone around me who has dealt with this, and I have barely heard about the issue. Is this some kind of huge problem in Florida? I don't even think I would know a bedbug if I saw one...I guess it is time to do some researh.

It is a huge problem everywhere. The US had declared a bedbug infestation in this country - it's been getting worse for years. Worse place in the US for the critters? Ohio...who would have thought!

Just do you best to check your room and have a great time. We've had 5 POP stays and never encountered a bug of any kind. Same for other Disney resorts - many stays in 30 years and no bugs of any kind...now we are extra careful in checking for bedbugs at any hotel anywhere.

Apparently with the new rates, there are new categories- standard, preferred, pool view, preferred pool view.

This is not on the Disney booking website...perhaps you are thinking of another resort or have you heard something about 2012 rates? It would be difficult at POP to have a preferred pool view rate b/c there are not many rooms in the preferred category anyway. Lots of guests do not want a pool view.

Please let us know your source - as a co-host of this thread and we want to keep the first page updated with correct info.

ETA: People are reporting the 2012 room rates are out now but when I tried on Disney's consumer site and their travel agent site it won't let me book beyond 12/31/2011. At least not right now. I'll be surprised if they added all those categories to Pop Century but not shocked. You just never know what they'll do next.

I was told that bookings for 2012 will begin in August...........I was wanting to book for next summer. Of course, someone may have been told something else.

A guest can usually book for the next year by phone before rates are released. As for the new categories - who knows..one thing we all know is that the info some reservation center CM's share it way off the mark.

I'd also be surprised, but not shocked if Disney did this - after all, the last several years is more and more about the almighty buck and less about guest service. I won't even go down that road though, or it will become a vent.

The Petals bar is next to the main Hippy Dippy Pool. It has alcoholic and some non-alcoholic drinks. For snacks you will have to go inside Classic Hall to the food court.
