Oooh I know I should but i cant do laundry on vacation..when im on vacation I like 3 rules...no laundry, no making beds and no cooking/cleaning...thats what makes the vacation for me. Of course I will probably end up paying Continental airlines for extra baggage but who cares. On the subject..im wondering if continental charge for your first case or not...hmm have to check that one. Im just one of these people on vacation if I ran out of clean clothes I would go buy new ones...hehe

For Ds and I we do 2 medium 24-26" suitcases, one small carry on 20" suitcase and a big purse. We pack the two bigger cases and then take out to put in the small one so we have room for cups, popcorn tubs, and any other souvies we get. When DH goes it is one more medium case. We pack for 8-10 days even if we go longer because I wash at the resort. I am forever rethinking if I really need certain things and putting them back. I have been lucky and never had to go off property for anything either.

One thing that helps is to roll the clothes to get more in and for DS we pack his clothes in gallon size baggies and suck the air out to be able to pack more.

This year because each piece of check in luggage costs money I am determined to try to use only 1 medium and two carry ons for DS and I.

HTH

I think Continental is owned by Northwest, and I think Northwest charges for each bag. I think that is becoming the norm anymore, sadly.

For the four of us we take 3 big suitcases. One for the DH and I, one for DS and DD, and then one for stuff. The stuff suitcase has all the shoes, bathroom stuff, extra park things we don't need the first day. And of course the carryon for each of us.

And I'm impressed that some of you actually do laundry. I'm a stay at home and laundry, cooking, all that stuff is my "job" LOL I don't know if I could do that on vacation too. :)

Perhaps you're thinking of the Delta Northwest merger last year? Many years ago NW had a lot of shares in Continental, but the airline regained those shares.

Continental is a member of Star Alliance.

Anyway, NW does not own Continental, but do code share.

Continental does charge for checked baggage: $15 for first bad, $25 for second bag.

Thankfully, Southwest and JetBlue (1st checked bag) still do not charge. :)

Hi fellow Popers!;) Just made final payment today for our May 3rd arrival!!!! I am so excited! Can't wait! It seems more real! LOL
Everyone have a great day!

I typically only pack two pairs of jeans and then wear a third pair. I just rewear them throught the trip. I've never worn a pair of jeans just for one day and washed them (unless I spill on them or something.) so that cuts down on some luggage.

Well, if we didn't go in Sept., we could probably re-wear too. (Or at least us grown-ups could.)
But, alas, in Sept. it is HOT HOT HOT, and we are piles of sweat wearing clothes by the end of the day. Ewwww.

I figure the ONLY job I have to do is make sure my family doesn't get lost and do laundry. I can live with that! LOL :thumbsup2

It must be the shares thing. It was about 10 years ago or os and we were flying Continental and we got to the gate and they told us that the flight was canceled, but they had the few passengers that were scheduled for the flight put on the Northwest flight. They told us then they were the same company. Our flight back had a connection and one was Continental and one was NW. So I guess it was back then when NW had the C shares? :confused3

That's right! It was and there was a big deal about getting the shares back ( I really should have said I think they settled, but since joining the Alliance one would assume it had to be settled). It never was truly the same airline, always a code share, but airlines will tell you that in a situation like you had - If in their favor, anyway! ;)

Just a thought: how long would that route take vs taking a cab?... and how much would a cab cost POP to ASMo?
:surfweb:

Using WDW buses, and counting on the longest wait to transfer buses, it could take an hour. If you JUST miss the bus leaving Pop and the next one comes 20 minutes later..... then about 10 minute ride to DTD (or where ever you decide to go to transfer) and then if you JUST miss that bus to ASMo and you wait 20 minutes on that one... thats 50 minutes. Thats the longest calculation. It may take less time. As far as a cab.... and I'm just guessing... $10 - $12.00 Its only about 5 miles one way.

Wow, that's the long way around - for just a five minute trip. I've never done WDW transportation before - so this is our learning trip.

I guess we'll just count on meeting at the parks then maybe heading over to one another's resort. Maybe the cab ride back wouldn't be too bad to spring for.

Thanks.
:thumbsup2

I am probably one of those people who could take away half of what they pack.

There are 4 of us DH, me DD 4 and DD 18 months. Last year we took two extra large duffle bags (think like hockey bags) that I borrowed from my MIL. I love them b/c historically I was always going over in weight and these weigh almost nothing so more weight for stuff.

I love to over pack and not have to worry when I am there. I still end up doing laundry b/c its nice to come home and put away clean clothes instead of washing a weeks worth.

I usually bring 2 outfits a day for kids (just in case) and 10 outfits for me for 7 days. I like to have the option of fresh clothes for the evening especially if it has been a really hot day.

My favorite packing tip is the large ziploc bags, not only can you sort outfits, but once you take the air out they make your clothes really compact and you can fit so much more in the suitcase. Great for people like me.

Yeah, since there is no direct bus from one resort to another resort.
The meet up in a park is a good idea. Or.... both meet up at DTD then ride the bus together.

hey everyone thanks for all your packing stories. Now that everything is packed and in the car ready to go I don't feel like I over packed. So if I can get my stupid blackberry to work I could answer some resort quetions you may have. some how the browser became uninstalled and I can't get tech support till 9am ugh!! I guess I'll be doing thta on the flight down as long as dh can keep the toddler.

So we were booked at POFQ and decided to change to POP for our honeymoon. We both love the theming of POP more than any of the moderates. It seems more Disney. We had originally picked a moderate because we could pay more and be guaranteed a king bed. I wish they would do this at all the resorts, but oh well.

Are there more standard king bed rooms or more preferred king bed rooms. Does anyone know if I have better chances of getting one with a preferred room or standard room.

Yeah...that makes sense. We're January travelers so sweating isn't really an issue for us.

I think I pack like you, only I have big kids (14 & 11 now) and we still use the big ZipLoc bags! When we went in Sep I made sure we had enough underclothes to wear 2 sets each day. And the kids had 2 outfits for every day and the adults had almost that much. We didn't use them all, but I really, really didn't want to do laundry.

Our family can't hardly wait to stay in POP in May! Oh! One more thing does Everything POP has sell Bolt on DVD so tell me! So i can buy it! in Everything POP!
