Did anyone see the remake of the movie? I thought it was really good- I've seen it twice. Patricia Heaton is one of my favorite actors and I think she was great in it as well as the rest of the cast.

So, it was as good as the original? I just love the original movie; it is one of my all time favorite flicks!

Honestly, I was a little disappointed in it. I didn't think they had any chemistry. I didn't see the original, but I've heard it's much better than the remake. I'm planning on renting the original soon.

I was disappointed too.

If the original is one of your favorites, I think you'll be disappointed in this remake.... Rent the original.

I like Jeff Daniels and Patricia Heaton, but, as the previous poster said, there was just no chemistry. The story is still good - as only a Neil Simon story can be - and the acting was fine. There just wasn't much believability to it.

I think it was a risky remake, especially on Jeff Daniels' part. That frantic/crazy/funny part won Richard Dreyfuss an Oscar for a reason.

The both looked like they were going through the motions and I did not believe that the two of them would be "together."

I saw the new one twice. Gotta say, I like the original much better. But I truly love Richard Dreyfuss, and I liked the kid in the first one better too (as well as Marsha Mason). It was kind of wierd watching the new one with almost the same exact dialogue, but two different people.

Thanks for posting this. I wanted to watch it this weekend, but I never had the chance. I LOVE the original, and didn't think it was a good idea to remake it. I thought I'd give it a chance anyway, but after reading these comments, I guess maybe I won't bother now.

I never saw the original but I watched the remake because TBS hyped it up so much. It was all right but I didn't really like Patricia Heaton in it. Something just didn't seem to jive.

My mother says I need to rent the original because it was so much better than the remake. She couldn't even watch the new one.

Great! I missed it! I knew I was suppose to be watching something on TV. I don't have a TV guide! Too bad cause I really wanted to watch this remake movie. I do love the theme song.
"Good-bye doesn't mean forever..." I forgot who sang that song. Anyway, hopefully I can catch this movie again on TV. Maybe I'll just rent the original movie.

I believe the original song was sung by Bread. The new version is sung by Hootie and the Blowfish, and I have to say, they did a pretty good job.

Check this out:

The Goodbye Girl

Call me behind the times, but is this in the theatres or on a cable station? TBS?

I am a true lover of the 1977 movie; I have seen it tons of times and I still cry when I hear that song! I would like to see the remake!

:( Thanks AZKathy for sharing that song with us. Oh...do I miss him sooo much.

"Goodbye doesn't mean forever
Let me tell you goodbye doesn't mean
we'll never be together again
If you wake up and I'm not there, I won't
be long away
'Cause the things you do my Goodbye Girl
Will bring me back to you. "

Someday...someday...I'll be up there with you.

I am so sorry to make you cry! You have had such a tragic loss and I know how much you must miss your DH!

Oh AZKathy, no worries. It's not your fault. No you didn't made me cry. The words to the song did. It's ok. I just have to deal that he is not coming back. :( I'll be fine. Life must go on. Thanks for caring AZKathy.

this version either.:o Loved the original with Dreyfuss and Mason.;)

I'm a big fan of the original. Hate to admit it but I think I've seen it a couple of dozen times. It's one of the movies HBO played over and over again when the network first began.

The remake was disappointing. I agree there was no chemistry between the two leads. Marsha Mason and Richard Dreyfuss were sizzling together. (By the way, does Heaton have ANY dance training?)

Also, Lucy in the remake is very cute but she CAN'T ACT! Quinn Cummings could act circles around her.

Watch the original.

I agree with most everyone here, the remake just wasn't that good. I found it kinda boring actually. The actors I like but, not together for this movie. Mason & Dreyfuss were just soooo perfect in the original. Of course, I like Dreyfuss in ANY movie! ;)

I had to make my boyfriend watch it the first time and now that he is back home he has watched it two more times

TNT

I only got to watch about the first hour of it last night, DH and I were at mom and dad's and it was time to go home, and it was okay. I laughed at the same parts as I did in the original, but I think it was because I could see Dreyfuss and Mason doing them. Now I have to go to Network Video and rent the original and watch it over and over again til I'm blue in the face.
